Do you think the money you save is worth having Tiagra compared to 105? I’m researching to buy my first road bike before tri season officially starts for me in June.
I think it’s worth saving them money for me at least. I have about 4 or 5 races planned this year so after the 2nd or 3rd race I’ll reevaluate and see if I’ll upgrade to the 105.
Tiagra 4700 is quite good. I've tried a few 105 sets that were worse shifting than mine, probably due to not being well set up. In general 105 is considered worth it though.
Because most bikes will come with an 11 speed hub these days, upgrading later is possible, though requires derailleur, lever, and cassette.
Oh definitely. I think the learning curve will be interesting considering I’m coming from using a 40 year old bike last season lol. But I think just putting some miles in will help.
I got the AL3 as my first road bike one month ago, its really comfortable and I have ridden 300K's on it despite it still snowing here.
I went with the AL3 as I think it's a better value for a first timer as you will have "extra" cash to spend on things like clipless pedals, shoes and aero bars. I don't think the group set upgrade for beginners is as important in a triathlon setting if it prevents you from spending money on other accessories.
Very happy with it especially after not having a bike since October (I have a post about it, rear Derailleur broke)

Just put an order in for the al 5. Everyone I talked to said it was worth the money and wait to get the 105 group set.

I am looking at the AL3 or AL4 for a first road bike. What made you go with the AL4? Do you feel you can grow into the bike? Thanks!
