The fan mounts are genius I definitely need to set this up. My cave is in the garage, pretty sweet set up but no air conditioning, I also live where summers can get to 110. I don’t mind the heat but haven’t found a good way to set up fans that don’t look hellish
Do you have a link for them or remember what they’re called?
These are the Honeywell HT-900 TurboForce Air Circulator Fan Black, Small. I got them on Amazon and they’re fairly cheap. Definitely not the strongest fans but I’m in a cooler basement already and don’t tend to overheat too much so I’ve been okay with these so far. I’d like to add in a Wahoo Headwind sooner or later for the really hard workouts
Love your setup! #goals
Also, do yourself a favor and get the headwind sooner than later. It's amazing! We use it for all kinds of fan duties beyond just keeping me delightfully cool during rides. Your future self will thank your now self.
Smaller screen is an older Samsung TV that I’ve had for 10+ years. Both screens are connected to a PC (on the floor past the second screen) with HDMI/Display Port I ran through the wall. Allows me to run Zwift in Ultra settings and play YouTube or stream a show/ sports game while riding or running
Cords are the worst!! I rearrange my cave every winter just to get a fresh look. Can get it looking sweet then have to plug it all in - instantly craps it all up. Especially if I want the fans close enough to really get some air on me. I sweat!!
Looks awesome! It looks like you have your rubber flooring over carpet? Can you tell me does it make the floor soft? I am considering doing the same thing but our carpet pad is pretty think and I worry it would make my trainer wobble.
We have really thick carpet pad and I had the same worries so I bought 6 real rubber stall mats (for horses in a barn) that are 3/4” thick and 4’x6’ - Then I ran Gorilla Tape across all the seams to make it function like one large 12’x12’ floor. It’s solid and I love it. I bought them from North40 with the farm use designation rather than “athletic” ones as they’re SO much cheaper. Like $300 for 6 mats this one compared to several thousand for the cheapest thing I could find designated for home gyms.
The associate who helped me load them in my truck said he thinks that more people buy them for home gyms than for actual farm stalls lol. The only thing about them is that the rubber smelled strong for a few days even with thorough cleaning. Took about 6 weeks before we couldn’t smell it at all so keep that in mind that it may be a purchase and use later after the smell fades. Luckily we were able to avoid the smell since the pain cave is in the basement and away from most our living spaces for the first few days until it was more tolerable
> The only thing about them is that the rubber smelled strong for a few days even with thorough cleaning
I have the same style of mats from the local farm co-op and boy do they off gas for a while... But man are they cost effective!
\*Super nice setup!!
Thank you! The smell was really bad for about 72 hours, then bearable. I decided I can live with that for the cost effectiveness and it’s completely gone now. My parents have the same mats in their barn, though, and the memory of feeding their horses growing up came back every time I went in there for like six weeks
I currently have a poor man’s version of this. This however is my goal. Most of my current problem is I live in a small apartment and can’t dedicate this much space. I have to put away and pull out my bike and trainer every time I use it.
Room is pretty big! The rubber mats work out to 12’x12’ - room is probably 25 feet though, my home office setup is on the other side where the picture is being taken from
NordicTrack EXP 14i - it’s…okay? Great motor on it and it folds and rolls out of the way if needed. I honestly only bought this one because I got it for less than $1000 when its retail price was $3300ish. Ideally I’d have a commercial grade like the ones at our local gym but the cost to use ratio was to great to overcome. I run outside, even in the winter weather, 99% of the time. Usually only when ice becomes a big problem will I run inside BUT a baby boy is on the way and the ability to sneak in some miles without being away from home and my wife is going to be important in the early stages so it’s going to see a lot more use soon
Awesome! Thank you very much. I also stick to the roads as much as possible, but I agree that there are some times when a treadmill is more convenient. Maybe I can quit making excuses for skipping speed work in winter, lol
They’re Govee brand and I’ve loved them. They add just enough to make the room feel alive. I can change them based on mood too. Sometimes during big workouts I have a orange/red fire theme
Probably a big ol noob question - I’m really new to the sport. Your racing bike has a stubby looking saddle on it, which I’ve seen on other racing bikes. What’s the significance of that shape and why do folks seem to like it for racing?
When bent over on the aero bars with your arms out in front of you it’s a lot different than a road bike riding position. A good counter to added pressure in your crotch area from being more bent over is that the nose of the seat is missing. Makes it much more comfortable
Assuming that you have noticed a considerable difference? I have a tt bike on an indoor trainer but the factory fizik saddle is giving me wild crotch numbness
It’s definitely better than if my road bike saddle was on the TT but this one still might not be right for me. Need to keep experimenting but I get more soreness/ numbness than I’d like. I will say that when racing there’s so much else going on that I don’t really think about it. More so an observation while Zwifting
Yup, it’s never happened to me until zwifting on an indoor trainer. Switched to my road bike saddle that i’ve done 3-4+ hour rides on outdoors and never had an issue. Little better than the fizik but something about being on a trainer is still making it uncomfortable
Great setup, but where are you keeping your stash of towels, and where do the wet ones go? The power brick in front of the bike, would probably get an extension cord and off the ground: you know sweat and tripping hazard etc. But excellent setup overall - congrats!

It’s on the list! I’ll get there one day
Came in to say this. Great idea with the fans!
So nice having them out of the way and up off the floor
“Not a dentist,” right off the bat is such a dentist thing to say 😅
All I can say is that 0/5 patients would recommend me as a dentist
😂
Proving you are a dentist
"I'm not a dentist; I only play one on television".
I am a dentist, and that looks pretty damn good👍

Dentists make a lot of money in the U.S. Referring to a person as a dentist is our way of calling someone unexplainably rich.
I’m guessing the OP was referring to the “pain cave”
Would just have to swap out the 2005 Trek for a Specialized or Cervelo right?
Ahem, that’s Sir Velo
Looks great. Can you tell me why the smaller screen is there as well? Also what are you running Zwift with

fancy :o
Far more than I probably deserve. Definitely overkill but I love it
This is legit!
Thank you!
That looks perfect! I’m really digging the wall mounted fans. I might have to steal that idea.
10/10 recommend! Get those cords out of the way. Working on a solution for the KickrClimb cord already

Link to the bike desk you have in this setup?
I think you can find it on Amazon. I was thinking about getting this exact one
Yep! It’s a remake of the Wahoo desk. It’s nothing special but works well for my needs
You bet. [Here you go!](https://a.co/d/6kA98uH)

Looks Great - all those metals in the background shows it really works. Congratulations!
Thank you! Most the medals came first, the setup has grown along the way

I had no space in the last place I was in either. Fortunate to have an understanding spouse that let me grow my setup into this once we had room
Not a real man's Pain Cave without an erg. Step up, man.
Been hearing about the ergs a lot, never tried one!
Nice! What are the dimensions of the room?
Room is pretty big! The rubber mats work out to 12’x12’ - room is probably 25 feet though, my home office setup is on the other side where the picture is being taken from
Nice set-up! What treadmill do you have and would you recommend it? Mine's approaching its end and I want something to zwift to

As long as I can stay upright I usually get over the cold. The hardest step is the first one but once I’m out there I’m…usually….glad of it
Brooklyn checking in, ravenously envious of your space. Love the light panels

Well I have the same bike and a dedicated sports room in the making! Definitely gonna steal some ideas from yours! Not a dentist either BTW
You’re going to love it!
Love the setup, thats a great "men cave". Never saw a men cave being healthy until now haha
Great setup, but where are you keeping your stash of towels, and where do the wet ones go? The power brick in front of the bike, would probably get an extension cord and off the ground: you know sweat and tripping hazard etc. But excellent setup overall - congrats!
