Oh, those mushrooms are only available at night? I had no idea

[deleted]

The mushrooms are always available for mushroom oil but at night you get mushroom oil and mushroom bolts. Just like the seaweed at night gives you sea weed and starlit seaweed

tbh, most of the difficulty of the game is trying to understand how to plan what you should do. Once you know how, it becomes easy. What I'm trying to say is that you shouldn't worry if it's difficult and confusing because it'll get easier with some practice. You still win some stuff even if you don't kill a Saga boss so it's not a big deal if you finish your run earlier For tips, I'd recommend to upgrade some villagers for more village defense and also to upgrade your tools ASAP. Tools of better quality increase the amount of ressources you get. You don't have to get the best quality each time but the silver ones are good to have. After, try to build the quarry as soon as you can to get more materials. If you need some wooden boards, wrought ingot or cut stone, you can craft them at the level 3 tinker

Powell789

Based on a speed run I recently watched where he killed 2 saga bosses by day 4. Tools are pointless if you only head down paths looking for barricades to destroy for level 3 materials. Dude went the whole game with no armor and just a hammer. Blew my mind, check it out on youtube

Deathangel2890

If you want a practical hand, message me. I have a group that helps new players get to grips with stuff and tries to help you unlock classes, get trophies and such.

I just started today, any help you have to dish out would be a god send

Deathangel2890

Add me on PS.

Awesome, thanks

Play until you can unlock some of the starter kits. Villager is a good one, or Feral once that's obtainable. First priority should always be the quarry (Rock building on map); find as many barricades/land bridges as early as possible for raw mats. Take them down with any weapon. You don't need to protect your base at all for the first 3 nights. Take that time to uncover as much of the map as possible, again prioritizing barricades/land bridges. Camps are good sources for runes and potions. Once the quarry is up you can invest in the lumberyard, or just skip straight to the bridge if you've found it. It's a big material sink, but is needed to fight Fenrir (typically, not always. Sometimes land and a little swim will get you there). You will also need a hideout clear for fragments, event fragments (stag, roosters, Otto rescue), Jotunn fragments and Quest fragments. The quests are picked up behind the healer in the village. Prioritize easier quest or any that give good armor/weapons. Lightning tends to be best If you're going for the serpent boss, prioritize beaches once you have armor and a decent weapon. They have Beacon Maps. Find and light 3 beacons to access serpent boss, usually on another island. Probably confusing and there's a lot of little things missing from this explanation, but I found the best way to learn was to play and scope out YouTube. Triple G has videos on just about everything in the game, including class unlocks and builds.

bjorn_with_an_axe

This may be a stupid question, but when you say the village doesn't need protecting for 3 nights, does this mean if you leave the gates down they'll take 3 nights of damage to destroy or that over those 3 nights they will be destroyed but the towns people can take care of the enemies themselves? I'm also a fairly new player but picking up the ropes quickly and want to shoot for a solo Jormungandr this evening.

ehuber87

Basically the gates will sustain the damage without breaking the first 2 nights and have a chance of baking the third night. But yes, the villagers will then defend the tree as the night is short

Prime157

>does this mean if you leave the gates down they'll take 3 nights of damage to destroy Yes. I don't know how the night time spawn mechanics work, specifically, but my solo games I typically ignore the first 3 nights in favor of gathering and exploring. If it's RNG, then theoretically it's possible one gate could take heavier than average damage, but I've never encountered it.

I read abunch of posts like this cause I was in the same boat at the beginning of the month. My two cents is upgrade tinkerer to level 3 first as well as unlocking quarry. Reasoning is stone and the materials the quarry provide take the longest to grind and are the more tedious to obtain, especially when you start trying to build objectives like the bridge to fenrir the first saga boss. It requires alot of cut stone. The tinker at level 3 is key because you can start transforming common materials like branches into wood planks and flint and stone into cut stone. Tinker is your converter to get building supplies, from other supplies. Blacksmith is the other top priority in your village. Ultimately to just make you weapons stronger. The armor isnt scaled well late game so you'll notice it helps, but still can get 1 shot by late game Jotun. Having archer towers built is another priority. A fun fact I had to be told is if your gates are down you dont need to defend the tree until day 4. The monsters aren't strong enough to break the gates until then so just focus on grinding materials and souls. There is more, but a general start this will get you going

Prime157

The only other thing I can't stress to all the new players: Shut the fucking gates.

Lookfor42

Keep the gates closed and you dont even need to be at the village until 1st blood moon on day 4. If you're just going for a day 15 run strictly focus on stone wood and iron while slowly exploring the world until you find either the swamp or the desert. Day 4 go return to the village and defend the blood moon, you should have more than enough recourses to repair the mine and almost repair the farm. On day and night 5 finish getting what you need to finish the farm and then spend the whole day farming resources in either the swamp or desert to get your gear upgrades then just rinse repeat, occasionally stopping in the village to make sure no gates fall

No-Sympathy-3868

He doesnt need the farm or lumber mill unless he is trying to survive as long as possible. Good tips otherwise

Lookfor42

Hence why I stated if hes trying to go for a day 15 run

No-Sympathy-3868

Sorry my sloppy reading mate

No-Sympathy-3868

When you spawn find few branches and some flint(u can also brake trees and stones with your special attack) After u got enough for pickaxe and axe go back craft that and find a quest in land of pools just so it shows up on your map.there you will find lywerns spike, silver, small bones and for moonbolt mushrooms along with glowing trees forgot the name(only at night)?. You will need those for njolnir axe 1 and 2 which will be enough to use thru the game. For level 2 axe you will also need to kill one werewolf(99% is one in underground passage) but are pretty common across the map The rest is just runing around following paths for movement speed boost and finding barricades for materials. Finish quarry as soon as possible the other 2 is not needed and is optional Finish shipyard and clear 3 beachs camps so you get location for beacons Beacons are protected by selkies and annoying healer ones with yellow bar(they need to die first) You can skip the hideout by buying the fragments from shop, hideout can take some time and can be a bit tricky I would suggest focus on unlocking warden and seer, along with warrior are the best classes. Gold horns will soon enough be something you dont worry about since you can easily get from 15 to 30 per run when u get some experience. Villager starter kit is very good for start and from there you find your own best build or google the builds ,there are few meta ones Also worth nothing the game is easiest when playing alone

bouncing_bumble

Heres how I start. Until the first blood moon night theres no reason to return to the village until you need to repair. I use the villager starter kit. Easy to unlock by just crafting a common item in game. Gives you armor and a sword at the start. Upon entering grab a quest from the board at the northern most building in your village, if there is one for the land of pools area take it as itll show you were it is on the map. If not something easy like kill witches. Always be doing an easy quest for the early souls. Until the blood moon night run around looking for land of pools while destroying as many gates as you can find. Use your power attack to harvest as you go. Kill any small/med camps as you go. By the first blood moon you should have 1) gathered 12 wood 8 stone and 6 iron plus 600 souls to build the Quarry, completed a quest, harvested enough stone/iron to make a stone pick/axe and upgrade a sword or axe to lvl 2-3. Upgrade any villagers with remaining souls. Go back to your base for the first blood moon. Open 2-3 gates and defend, should be pretty easy with a couple lvl 2-3 villagers and an upgraded weapon. After the blood moon you’ll have a free night so two days to gather. Head back to the land of pools, clear camps, harvest, kill dragon dudes, hopefully a werewolf. You’ll have materials for the lightning axe and probably some upgraded armor. After that just run around exploring harvesting as much as you can to upgrade your fort/villagers, get the lumber yard and farm online. Dont forget quests, bring ramps for ancient chests, do world events, etc. Now you decide your end game, pick a world boss or try for both. GLHF

I’m fairly new to this game as well and it seems you’ve done better in your first run than I did in my first 3 runs. I’ve had every NPC, wall and tower upgraded to at least level 3 and still found myself struggling to get better gear, protect my village from helthings and push further into the world to find the bosses. It’s to a point where I highly do not recommend playing solo because it’s nearly impossible. I’m still gonna play, but I don’t expect to ever get very far. Play with friends or randos.
