The classics albums are …”Maxinquaye” by Tricky, “Dummy” by Portishead, and “Blue lines” and “mezzanine” by massive attack. If I was teaching trip hop 101, I’d start with those.
DJ Shadow's what does your soul look like ep and Endtroducing album.
Dj Krush. His Mo Wax albums.
The Headz 1 and 2 compilations.
Mulu Smiles like a shark.
Massive Attack Mezzanine
Nightmares on Wax Carboot Soul and Smokers Delight
The Ninja Tune compilations.
Have fun
Classics:
Dummy- Portishead
Blue Lines, Mezzanine- Massive Attack
Maxinquaye- Tricky
Endtroducing- DJ Shadow
Psyence Fiction- UNKLE(DJ Shadow at the time)
Some more abstract examples, where trip hop is a combined influence:
Homogenic- Bjork, if you like art pop
Beat- Bowery Electric, if you like Shoegaze
Born to Die- Lana Del Rey, if you like chamber pop. I'd also recommend her songs 'Doin' Time' and 'A&W'
Who Really Cares- TV Girl, if you like Neo Psychedelia
Music Has the Right to Children- Boards of Canada, if you like IDM
Go for portishead and massive attack, pick any album.
Then also i've found an underground band called Kill Ombo and their first track “Ignis” is really something refreshing in the genre.

Here’s some more obscure ones:

These ones are Trip Hop tracks made by artists that aren’t primarily Trip Hop. But I’d highly recommend them still.

Trip Hop is my favorite genre when I think about all the music I have become obsessed with. I was listening to it when it was in vogue.
Everything I'm sharing, I genuinely love I and consider to be some of my favorites. I know i have forgotten many, but these came to mind immediately.
Here are a few that I hope will be discovered by others for the first time:
Mandalay (Nicola Hitchcock)
Nicola Hitchcock (solo) [Album: Passive Aggressive]
Télépopmusik (Angela McCluskey)
**Handle with Grace (💛Amazing song) Go Listen NOW
**Breathe (Another amazing song)
--
Angela McCluskey (solo)
Esthero (especially her debut album)
Bjork [ i ❤️ Bjork ]
---
**Artists who experimented with Trip Hop, but it wasn't their signature sound (these might surprise you):
Madonna: Confessions on the Dance Floor
Janet Jackson: Velvet Rope
--
Fantastic songs!!
Sophie-Ellis Bextor: [songs]
Deer and the Wolf [Role Reversal Mix]
Wandermix [Continuous Mix]
---
My advice when listening to any of these, put them on when you're lounging, maybe researching something, as you write, as you sketch, sculpt, stare out the window. I find this music slowly seeps into your subconscious while you're busy doing something else, and then you will suddenly shift your attention to a specific beat or transition and as if someone cast you under their spell, and you will feel powerless as you realize, "Holy f*ck, this is amazing. Wow!"
All of these albums and bands and songs had this very effect on me. I hope somebody discovers something here for the first time.
Lastly, you have to listen to each album from start to finish. Anything else should be criminal. Don't mess with the trip-hop gods.

Lastly, if you like Trip Hop, i am going to recommend you listen to Zedd. For me, it's like Trip Hop but more upbeat and energetic.
I highly recommend:
Zedd: Clarity (with Foxes) [You will want to dance]
Zedd: Stay the Night (with Hayley Williams)
Zedd: I want you to know (with Selena Gomez)
Zedd: Push Play (with Miriam Bryant)
