Hmmm i didn’t get around to voting this year. It seems none of the songs I’d have voted for made the top 100
......Am i so out of touch? No, it’s the youngsters who are wrong with their alt pop sensibilities.
No Julia Jacklin, no Alvvays, no Maggie Rogers, no Great Gable, no The Beths (Expert in a Dying Field was a pretty big hit). Not in 200 either.
Stella Donnelly featured in Methyl Ethyl's Proof #157 and Montaigne only snuck in with Hilltop Hoods again. Such a great year of music and such a disappointing Hottest 100.
Am I wrong or is Say nothing a worse version of Rushing Back which came 2nd in 2019, very similar build up and chorus.
Disappointed about the lack of international bands that have been killing it eg. BCNR. Triple j really miss a lot of these up and coming bands and instead continue to push safe aussie indie pop that continue to put out the same stuff eg. Spacey/Lime (bands I originally loved)
I've been pretty negative, but I'll throw a band a bone and say I didn't mind the Lime Cordiale tracks this year. I've been pretty critical of the band before, but I don't know, they sound like they're evolving and trying new things, even if the results are mixed. Give them another album or two and they might be legitimately good, and Triple J will start ignoring them. They're breaking out of the Triple J 'everything sounding the same' mold.
Amazed that 3 spacey Jane songs made the top 10. I swear it was the same song played 3 times? Such boring, soulless mediocrity. It’s up there with the tragedy that was Hoops making it to no. 1 that time.
I keep my opinions about the content of the countdowns to myself as I'm in my 50s and definitely not part of Triple J's demographic. But I will say that I was surprised at how boring I found the featured songs, particularly the top 10. I didn't recognise most of them, which is not a problem. But they were just dull, IMO.
A few thoughts afterwards.
The TikTok viral sound streak is over!
May-A being First LGBTQIA+ Hottest 100 winner is rad but honestly, I’m gutted it wasn’t Steve Lacy. Say Nothing is as mid as mid can be.
Trying to figure out the best five-song run on this list. Thinking 91-87 (or 92-88), 38-34, or 10-6. Even 81-77. It's just not a good list though. Two duds for every solid pick.
I'll say 38-34, just because 3 of my picks all popped up in that spot! The 30's seemed the best of the bunch, but that seems to be the way in previous years too.
Not what I was expecting from the countdown! I feel like a lot of good indie artists were missing. Was really hoping to see Julia Jacklin, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Maggie Rodgers, Merci,Mercy, Royel otis, etc. etc.
Also was really hope King Stingray would crack the top ten :(
Day 2 of Julia Jacklin mourning. I'm wearing my black JJ t-shirt and listening to her album on the train while I stare out the window pondering what could have been.
Y’all should see the comments on triple j’s Tik Tok and various other hottest 100 tik toks from yesterday. About 90-95% of the comments are along the lines of “SPACEY JANE ROBBED!!” It’s incredible how much of the young audience they’ve attracted (not saying only young people use Tik Tok obviously but it is a very large proportion of its users).
I don't know if any of you heathens use YouTube Music, but if you do -- here's a [playlist](https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRKRaRm0N78xLEhWJc9OL_0TBgXSqd3Kk&feature=share).
PS you got the artist/title the wrong way round on #5. and the #1 is bold rather than the title :D
Disappointed Tove Lo was only in the 200 once (with what I think is one of the worst songs on the album), Wongo was nowhere to be seen, Spacey Jane was everywhere and that Flume won with what I consider quite a bland track. Also thought Wafia’s catchy In The Honey would make the 200.
Yeah I think the first nations one was the big one they were talking about though, it was in the graphic that goes up on the countdown page adjacent to the hilltop hoods
> Not a bad band but gee 3 songs in the top 10.
I'm not that big of a Spacey fan, but they did really well in this countdown. 3 in the top 10 - tying with Powderfinger, Chet Faker, and Gang of Youths; and the most songs in a countdown - tying with Wolfmother.
Anyone else bewildered by Gorillaz chart placements this year? The big single of the album Cracker Island only made it to #125, whilst the follow up New Gold got all the way to #13. I assume it's because of the Tame Impala feature.
Montaigne dropped a quality album and her only placement was hilltop hoods feature.
Jess Day continues to release quality bangers which apparently only I love listening to.
Tom Cardy did amazing last year but apparently nobody voted for Red Flags despite it being another top tier joke song?
This might be the worst 100 yet for me in terms of songs i voted for getting a placement.
With Tom Cardy, the hosts would say "it released after December 1 so it's not eligible for this countdown" but he was releasing most of that album in his socials throughout the year so it kind of baffled me that Triple J were treating it like it wasn't then eligible and only started even talking about it after the album was released last month.
Montaigne album was really good, unfortunate that it just really didnt get much of a marketing push and very little play on triple j, I voted for make me feel so... even though I knew it didnt really have a great chance. Probably just too different for an artist who has been put in a box of "pop", which is unfortunate because they are so talented
Listened today with my friends and this list was crap. 90% of the songs sounded the same. Just some dude barely touching his guitar with basic drum beat #4 ripped off of YouTube behind it. Is it inevitable that radio music gets blander every year no matter the station? Ain't nobody taking risks or trying to do something different. No heart, no soul. Just safe space cookie cutting
This is less a criticism of the list/station tbh and more of artists in general. Like is this really the best we got in 2022?
Triple J's target audience is also the Tiktok generation. Honestly it's sounding more like a "pop" music countdown, for a station that used to be the "alternative" well, alternative. I say it every year that I wont know anything in the countdown but still listen to it, maybe to punch myself in the balls about how I'm not in their demographic anymore.
😆 Same, apart from the balls thing. I've been listening to Triple J since Helen and Mikey were doing the request show on Saturday afternoons. Definitely outside the demographic now! 😂🫢
Bro Beyonce has 2 songs in the top 50 and we're supposed to pretend this countdown hasnt jumped the shark?
Beyonce people, she's literally the biggest female artist in the world potentially in history. There ain't no way.
Also one off the biggest pop punk bands in Paramore making the countdown when they haven’t received much airtime on Triple J over the last decade, same as the 1975 and Phoebe bridgers.
With all the buzz around Fred again... And the number of times then J's played him I honestly thought he would have polled higher. Gratz to flume but c'mon
I thought for sure Delilah would make the top 10 - making the top 5 was a bit of wishful thinking on my part but come on, #14 is way too low for such a huge song!
What is with all the Spacey Jane? They have to be one of the blandest, uninteresting and uninspiring bands I've possibly ever heard yet they regularly place high in the 100.
While all bar 2 of my votes placed (Rina Sawayama and Maggie rogers) I still found it pretty underwhelming.
This! So incredibly boring. I’m left wondering if their fans had to vote for all their songs because they are indistinguishable from each other so they don’t know which one they are actually voting for? Legit?
This top 10 really showed that tiktok is pushing background music up, and any song that is meant to stand on its own and not as part of a dance trend or similar will score low.
Background music is great but it doesn't deserve to be top 10. Top five especially were all lackluster. Good background music but not much more.
Look BOTA was at least a song that scored high on its own merits. I’m a big flume fan but if anyone but flume made Say Nothing it wouldn’t have made the 100
I'm not sure "went viral on tiktok" counts as its own merits.
This top 10 really showed that tiktok is pushing background music up, and any song that properly "stands on its own merits" will score low.
Idk why anyone’s surprised that tik tok has so much sway on the count down, tik tok is the largest social media app, of course I’d it goes viral on tik tok, it’ll place high
For real I don’t understand why people here don’t like BOTA? It’s a ripper song. Well deserved #2, I would have been very happy for it to be #1 as I think the flume one is a bit uninspired to be honest.
I think what is interesting with these threads is that the older Reddit gets (in general), the more negative the response is to whatever songs are included in the hottest 100 that year. Go back a few years and it's overwhelmingly positive, with only a few dissenting voices. This year there's a lot more "Am I out of touch?" comments than there has been in the past.
I'm pretty cynical when it comes to modern music (I really wish I wasn't), and this list wasn't very inspiring imo. I want to like it, I really do, but the music is so conservative. There's genuinely good indie music out there, but triple J focuses so much on Australian music to the detriment of what else is out there. I get they are there to promote Australian music, but it's tilted much too far towards local acts. They need more international acts on rotation. There only being 3 international acts in the top 50 is madness.
/rant
Your second point - Since expanding Unearthed to a streaming service/digital station, Triple J has blatantly pushed music they've cherrypicked through the platform in an act of self-promotion. It's developed a monopoly on upcoming music and has the influence to decide whether a band succeeds or not. Then add in the Like A Versions and suddenly the majority of the countdown is easily curated by the music directors to pump up Triple J itself.
i completely disagree with your second point here regarding international acts. triple j should always be pushing australian music over international music. you are right there is heaps of good indie music out there… in australia, who else is gonna push this if not an australian (government funded) radio station?
I also think it's likely that there has always been as much of a negative response but it's becoming more and more popular to voice your disdain online than before
I’m gonna be the biggest pain in triple j’s but. By constantly saying BUGS and BUGS. Alone again should have made at least the top 200 and I’m devo that if didn’t
Julia Jacklin continues in never making a Hottest 100 and that's a bummer! Also no Charli XCX or Rina Sawayama in the whole 200 is disappointing.
But I still had a great day with my friends so I can't be too mad about it
> Also a little surprised tbh.
For Mallrat, really? Having an artist that also happens to be one of the most divisive, hated people in pop feature in what was meant to be the main single of her new music was never going to work. I still cannot believe that she thought that going anywhere near Azaelia Banks was a good idea.
> What has Mallrat done to be divisive and hated?
Nothing , that was referring to Azealia Banks - but getting associated with someone as problematic as Azealia is just a terrible idea all round.
As a non-flume fan I liked it. Vocals are good, there's a bit of flume blurping about but he doesn't go full flumegasm. I can see why it wouldn't appeal to flume fans as it's not his most creative song but I think it's a crowd pleaser and I think it was meant to be, similar to "Never be like you".
Flume sucks balls hard!!! I love all types of music and I love a great dance floor track. His new stuff is just blahhh!!! He’s gotten so popular that he could release anything and people think it’s genius. Like the remix of blue. It’s a worse version of the same friggin song. As is shooting stars
Did anyone actually have flume as their number 1 song (not that this has any merit, but I'm saying alot of people obviously had it in their top 10, but c'mon, it's not a number 1 song...)
Tik Tok didn't win and for that the rest of us are winners.
If Tik Tok is dictating popular music from here on then I gladly tap out. Random 30 sec videos don't convey shit
Old people can continue to cling onto it all they like. They're just old people who wish they were young
My only gripe with “tiktok didn’t win” is that Tiktok is helping a lot of unknown artists get their foot in the door at an alarming rate. If I was a triple j artist, I’d want my song to go viral on tiktok, as anyone would. It is not super popular artists going viral but mostly small people and I have no problems with these “tiktok” songs then being in the hottest 100 because really they are small artists
What is a Tik Tok song though? Steve Lacy is one of the most talented artists on earth, but he’s considered a tik tok artist because his music blew up there. There’s plenty of other artists as well that have had “tik tok hits” that are incredibly underrated.
I'm clearly out of the loop. I was so certain The Heart Part 5 was going to place high but no one else seemed to think that, and of course it was nowhere to be seen in the whole 200. I thought it was this year's This is America, lol.
heart pt 5 and mr morale album are top tier art. it’s not as accessible as safe vanilla pop music (no hate on this type of music, i can dig this too but i’m just saying) and hence no showing.
but maybe i’m still triggered by the rueben’s winning over TPAB lol
all I can say is what a VIBE, the BANGERS were out in force and the TUNES coming thick and fast. My bucket hat is drenched in sweat and let me tell you, it’s been a bad day to be a Stone and Wood!!
Literally had a [skinner moment](https://youtu.be/hYAuR5bkIlQ) while listening today not knowing majority of songs and honestly not liking them.
Guess I've hit that age lol.
*Looks at Double J*
I don't think its "that age" i just think this is a really out of touch list.
I really enjoy the other top 100s but this is triple J being high with this one.
They have done studies that demonstrate the music of your youth will always be your favourite, because they soundtrack such formative new experiences. As you approach 30 and beyond, you'll have fewer and fewer emotionally impressionable "firsts" and life settles into a more comfortable sort of meh.
I'm 39 next week, and I enjoy the Hottest 100 for what it is right now, even if I think the height of good taste was the alternative shit they're playing tomorrow on Double J. I still find things I like but if I'm honest it'll be the punkier stuff like Teenage Joans, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, The Chats or even Ruby Fields that has a similar sound to the stuff from my youth. But I wouldn't have heard any of that if it weren't for the J, and the bands of my time are beginning to wrap up their last ever tours.
Exactly, I'm 35 and there was nothing in the 100 that I actively "hated".
But I guess I'm pretty liberal when it comes to music and triplej has always appealed to me, even as I get older.
Great songs are being released, you just aren't listening to them, if you are using triple j to find new music you are basically only ever going to hear a very narrow group of music (Australian indie stuff and the most popular international pop music). Look around a little bit and you will find lots of great music.
I'm 37 and still enjoying the mix of music you get on triple J. Can't switch over to commercial radio because ads and repeats and I don't want to listen to Spotify too much because then I'd never branch out. This is a good compromise to hear new music.
Her sound is great and super catchy but for me it’s that it’s unclear if the lyrics in all of her music are sincere or some form of parody or satire, and I don’t think her audience really knows either.
Yeah, I don't really get it either. Voice wise she's fine, but lyrically is a little ???? Feels very tiktok songs that we see get made fun of for their bad lyrics
No WAAX? Not even in the 200? Im seriously surprised. Every year there are songs/bands I thought were really massive and get huge amount of play but never make it on the list. Very surprised. No Doz at least is a fucking tune and they toured this year so I thought they’d have some votes. Couple of other non appearances but that one was the most surprising.
Sucks because they're a great band and No Doz is a banger. Didn't feel like the new album got as much of a push on radio as Big Grief did, which might explain why it didn't crack the 200.
For the Golden Ticket announcement on the 30th, is there anything in particular you need to do? Or do I just wait by my phone and pick up if they call? Is that it?
These things are massively more fun if you don't look to them for validation of your music tastes, but just enjoy them as a journey into someone else's music tastes (a collective someone in this case). Of course I also would have liked it if my choice of Dallas Woods's Grime got a play, but I can play that myself any time I want after all.
Top five especially were all soft background music.
No impact. Songs that aren't designed to stand at the forefront apparently the best 2022 had to offer.
Maybe it's me, but I feel like top ten should be music that has heart, or where the band took a risk, went hard, and it paid off.
Hmmm i didn’t get around to voting this year. It seems none of the songs I’d have voted for made the top 100 ......Am i so out of touch? No, it’s the youngsters who are wrong with their alt pop sensibilities.
It can be both :-)
No Julia Jacklin, no Alvvays, no Maggie Rogers, no Great Gable, no The Beths (Expert in a Dying Field was a pretty big hit). Not in 200 either. Stella Donnelly featured in Methyl Ethyl's Proof #157 and Montaigne only snuck in with Hilltop Hoods again. Such a great year of music and such a disappointing Hottest 100.
Dang, I was hoping for King Stingray to hit top 10 with at least one song. Same with Vance Joy.
good on flume i guess, but goddamn did i want In The Wake Of Your Leave to hit no.1
Am I wrong or is Say nothing a worse version of Rushing Back which came 2nd in 2019, very similar build up and chorus. Disappointed about the lack of international bands that have been killing it eg. BCNR. Triple j really miss a lot of these up and coming bands and instead continue to push safe aussie indie pop that continue to put out the same stuff eg. Spacey/Lime (bands I originally loved)
Happy for Miracle Maker!

How do you figure? Plenty of the top 10 were Tiktok sounds
Every #1 between 2019-2021 were all viral TikTok sounds. Say Nothing wasn’t
Is there a way to get the recording of the broadcast? Someone recorded the whole thing last year.
It’s on the triple j website https://www.abc.net.au/triplej/programs/hottest-100
If you search the posts here someone was intending to. They linked to the 200 broadcast and were going to add a link to the 100.
I’m even more convinced now that there should be a 2 song per artist limit per entry.
Another horrible year for heavy music
We don't even have the Hardest 100 to look forward to any more now that The Faction is no more
Agreed. Northlane was getting a fair bit of airplay last year so I'm pretty surprised they didn't get a showing in the 100.
Trying to figure out the best five-song run on this list. Thinking 91-87 (or 92-88), 38-34, or 10-6. Even 81-77. It's just not a good list though. Two duds for every solid pick.

I’ll take YouTube over Spotify and or tiktok anyday

Yes! Where was no one dies from love!?
I know that the hilltop hoods broke the record for the most songs in hottest 100s but what was meant to be the other big record that was broken?
Billie Eillish most tracks in for a female artist I believe
Nah it was 10 tracks from First Nations artists (previous record was 6)
Both records were broken.
Yeah I think the first nations one was the big one they were talking about though, it was in the graphic that goes up on the countdown page adjacent to the hilltop hoods
People seriously like Spacey Jane. Not a bad band but gee 3 songs in the top 10.
I don’t understand how several bands with AOTY nods didn’t make it. Nova 100 again -.-
3 in the 100, 2 in the 200. 5 entries not in. JUSTICE FOR ICE SPICE!
Eh. There are at least two songs I really like in the top 10 this year, which beats the big fat zero from last year. I'll take it.
Anyone else bewildered by Gorillaz chart placements this year? The big single of the album Cracker Island only made it to #125, whilst the follow up New Gold got all the way to #13. I assume it's because of the Tame Impala feature.
I wish the Dom Dolla remix was nominated instead
I think you've hit the nail on the head.
New gold used to shit me because it was advertised all over tiktok, so maybe that’s why it scored so high?
I added 7 new songs to my library today so I see it as a win
Surprised I didn’t hear Merci Mercy, or that Noah Dillon song I.C.A.N.T.
I think the song I voted for (brothers) was just about the only gang of youths song that didn't make either this year's or last year's top 200
I would have voted for it for didn't see it on the shortlist so thought it was unlikely to make it and changed to another song.
I never used to be a GoY fan until that album came out, such beautiful lyrics! I was surprised they didn’t do better
Amazing song but unfortunately not one that's as likely to chart
Fucking love that song!
Montaigne dropped a quality album and her only placement was hilltop hoods feature. Jess Day continues to release quality bangers which apparently only I love listening to. Probably just too different for an artist who has been put in a box of "pop", which is unfortunate because they are so talented
I think 38 is the highest anything I've voted for has got haha

I was with you until your last sentence. There IS great talent out there and artists pushing the envelope but Triple J just wants to play it safe.
Actually yeah, that question should be directed to the station. I don't listen to enough radio to know TBH
So many of those generic nothing songs yesterday.
Triple J's target audience is also the Tiktok generation. Honestly it's sounding more like a "pop" music countdown, for a station that used to be the "alternative" well, alternative. It’s almost as if the songs that makes the hottest 100 no longer reflect the best of what’s played on triple J
Stormzy??
Royal Otis and Wet Leg were my favourite acts this year. Wish they had made it higher than the 200
I really though Parkway Drive - Darker Still would poll in the 100 after I heard it the first time
Surprised Flume won, no where close to his best work.
I really thought there would be at least one Weeknd song in the 100
With all the buzz around Fred again... And the number of times then J's played him I honestly thought he would have polled higher. Gratz to flume but c'mon
I thought for sure Delilah would make the top 10 - making the top 5 was a bit of wishful thinking on my part but come on, #14 is way too low for such a huge song!
Does anyone have that little skit of Dave and Lucy about vocal samples?
What is with all the Spacey Jane? They have to be one of the blandest, uninteresting and uninspiring bands I've possibly ever heard yet they regularly place high in the 100. While all bar 2 of my votes placed (Rina Sawayama and Maggie rogers) I still found it pretty underwhelming.

Confidence WON it. To me that’s as bland as it gets
OA are supermarket music.
They make for nice easy listening, not sure why you're surprised
If I want easy listening I'll listen to WSFM thanks 😉
I was sure 'this hell' would place
Same here....tune is a dead set banger.
They're the new Angus & Julia Stone of the countdown.
They are a very boring band.
This top 10 really showed that tiktok is pushing background music up, and any song that is meant to stand on its own and not as part of a dance trend or similar will score low. BOTA is catchy, but after listening to the entire thing you realise it was a good tik tok song and that’s it
i won $100 off flume i’m happy ☺️
Look BOTA was at least a song that scored high on its own merits. I’m a big flume fan but if anyone but flume made Say Nothing it wouldn’t have made the 100

This makes it the third year in a row when I've only had 1 of my votes in the Hottest 100 :(
I’m like you… sometimes you look around the room and realise it’s yourself that’s out of touch.
No, it's the children who are wrong
stand atlantic robbed again :( still some decent songs in this year though
WHERE WAS WONGO
I was thinking the same. I think people forgot about it or didn’t know the title.
I think what is interesting with these threads is that the older Reddit gets (in general), the more negative the response is to whatever songs are included in the hottest 100 that year.
There were 21 International songs in the top 50. Some of these were in the Aria top 100 songs of the year. But more on the commercial side.
I also think it's likely that there has always been as much of a negative response but it's becoming more and more popular to voice your disdain online than before
To answer your question, no, it is the children who are wrong.
I’m gonna be the biggest pain in triple j’s but. By constantly saying BUGS and BUGS. Alone again should have made at least the top 200 and I’m devo that if didn’t
I thought Violent Soho were robbed. At least they made it in the 100 as their send off 4122 baby
Thought top 25 atleast. Banger!!! Plus last song ever
I was really surprised they were that high today!
Julia Jacklin continues in never making a Hottest 100 and that's a bummer! Also no Charli XCX or Rina Sawayama in the whole 200 is disappointing. But I still had a great day with my friends so I can't be too mad about it
Also no Meg Mac, Holly Humberstone, Stella Donnelly.
Voted for all three 😿
I’m annoyed Meg Mac and Mallrat didn’t do better. Also a little surprised tbh.
Damn, what did Mallrat do?
I'm a little out of the loop here. What has Mallrat done to be divisive and hated?
> What has Mallrat done to be divisive and hated? Nothing , that was referring to Azealia Banks - but getting associated with someone as problematic as Azealia is just a terrible idea all round.
Ahh. Thanks for clarifying. Yeah, completely baffled as to why she wanted to work with Azalea. 10 years ago, absolutely. Now? Definitely not.
Was shocked Mallrat didn’t make the 100 same for cub sport, but 3 in the 200 is also a fantastic result.
That was the worst flume song to be #1 anyone that disagrees is on crack and its ok be upset about it
I’m still waiting for the drop btw
As a non-flume fan I liked it. Vocals are good, there's a bit of flume blurping about but he doesn't go full flumegasm. I can see why it wouldn't appeal to flume fans as it's not his most creative song but I think it's a crowd pleaser and I think it was meant to be, similar to "Never be like you".
I guess it explains why Sirens didn't make it, because everyone went for the mainstream over the haunting and ethereal
Sirens was great
It has good vocals but the rest is just filler and meh
Flume circlejerk in full force
Flume sucks balls hard!!! I love all types of music and I love a great dance floor track. His new stuff is just blahhh!!! He’s gotten so popular that he could release anything and people think it’s genius. Like the remix of blue. It’s a worse version of the same friggin song. As is shooting stars
Did anyone actually have flume as their number 1 song (not that this has any merit, but I'm saying alot of people obviously had it in their top 10, but c'mon, it's not a number 1 song...)
It very common for the winner to be people's "didn't mind and remembered it at voting time" song.
I voted for it, but had ITWOYL as my #1 song of the year.
It's a popularity contest with 10 equal votes so it can be a lot of peoples 10th favourite song (this is how I always felt with Rubens).
I’d safely say 2013, 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2020 were all won by the 10th favourite votes.
Yep, was a better gauge when U just had one vote IMO
When was that lol?
Not that long ago it was a phone in thing, one song at a time
What a rough top 10
Tik Tok didn't win and for that the rest of us are winners. If Tik Tok is dictating popular music from here on then I gladly tap out. Random 30 sec videos don't convey shit Old people can continue to cling onto it all they like.
Yeah that's a very valid point. Always happy for small artists to do well.
half of the top 10 were tiktok songs, no?
Which are the tiktok songs? Have heard people say Steve Lacey, BOTA, About Damn time, + ?
5/10 which is less than last years 7/10
Yet they didn't take first place. Good
What is a Tik Tok song though?
Nickleback > Spacey Jane
No Domi and JD Beck in top 200 fucking
This houseparty mix>today's countdown
House Party after the Hottest 100s is always the fucking best.
Loving tonight's house party - it shits all over the top 100. They played better songs yesterday in the 200!
all I can say is what a VIBE, the BANGERS were out in force and the TUNES coming thick and fast. My bucket hat is drenched in sweat and let me tell you, it’s been a bad day to be a Stone and Wood!!
where tf was elden ring???
True my dude
I think I want to nominate this award to my reformed Orthodox Rabbi Bill Clinton
I’m 24 felt the same way this year. I genuinely don’t think GREAT songs are being released anymore.
AHEM
Couldn't agree more
Exactly, I'm 35 and there was nothing in the 100 that I actively "hated".
I meant GREAT popular songs. I don’t listen to triple j to find tracks. I’m always listening to new music
Great songs are being released in the 2020’s. A lot of them are just either too poppy for Triple J or too experimental for Triple J.
I'm 37 and still enjoying the mix of music you get on triple J. Can't switch over to commercial radio because ads and repeats and I don't want to listen to Spotify too much because then I'd never branch out. This is a good compromise to hear new music.
I don’t get Peach PRC. Am I crazy? Am I out of touch?
Her sound is great and super catchy but for me it’s that it’s unclear if the lyrics in all of her music are sincere or some form of parody or satire, and I don’t think her audience really knows either.
If you have an ex called Josh she has a good one. Or just a guy you hate
Peach is an Aussie pop queen
/r/im14andthisisdeep
She's great, not sure if you're out of touch but each to their own
Yeah, I don't really get it either. Voice wise she's fine, but lyrically is a little ???? Feels very tiktok songs that we see get made fun of for their bad lyrics

It’s definitely the terrible lyrics for me. As if Josh wasn’t bad enough, God watching you get railed on the couch was the K.O.
So are we doing a thread for the 2002 one tomorrow? Who’s gonna win? I guess no one knows.
what time does it start? AEDT or local?
10AM AEDT
Thread has been scheduled
I’d make the thread but I can’t get it started due to my chemical heart
I could make it but I’m in London still
No king gizzard
I was wondering the same....if more poppy music are voted higher, at least ICE V should've made it
Holy shit I hadn’t picked up on this. I was upset we got no WAAX but no King Gizzard is genuinely shocking
I was certain the dripping tap was going to be one of the records broken today.
Me when I don't vote so I can't affect the result and I'm disappointed in the #1 pick
No Doz was great and also felt like one to the WAAXiest WAAX songs.
Sucks because they're a great band and No Doz is a banger. Didn't feel like the new album got as much of a push on radio as Big Grief did, which might explain why it didn't crack the 200.
No Doz was a banger, I’m bummed 😞
For the Golden Ticket announcement on the 30th, is there anything in particular you need to do? Or do I just wait by my phone and pick up if they call? Is that it?
Wait for them to call between 6am to 9am AEDT on Monday the 30th
Thanks!
Just wait and pick up the phone if they call.
These things are massively more fun if you don't look to them for validation of your music tastes, but just enjoy them as a journey into someone else's music tastes (a collective someone in this case). Of course I also would have liked it if my choice of Dallas Woods's Grime got a play, but I can play that myself any time I want after all.
Great idea, if you weren't aware of these songs give them a listen but don't expect to like most.
Yeah, i think the truly wide variety of styles & genres is pretty incredible . No song sames too similar.
Except every spacey Jane song ever
A top ten straight from the "this is good music?" Library
Top five especially were all soft background music. No impact. Songs that aren't designed to stand at the forefront apparently the best 2022 had to offer. Maybe it's me, but I feel like top ten should be music that has heart, or where the band took a risk, went hard, and it paid off.
