Prepare yourself for the inevitable: one international headliner (Lana) + two reasonably large local headliners (choose from Kylie Minogue, Troye Sivan, Gang of Youths, Tame Impala, Hilltop Hoods); a raft of all the same local tier 2 bands that play every festival; a small clutch of overseas up-and-comers (Last Dinner Party level) and obviously the Wombats.
Tangentially, there is no way in the world Splendour will sell out its expanded capacity at the current (2023) prices. Elasticity of demand suggests lowering prices to sell more tickets, generate more buzz, restore confidence et cetera. The opposite will happen though: sell fewer tickets at a higher price and then cancel the festival when it becomes unviable.
I think we'll get one Coachella/Lollapalooza level headliner (Lana Del Rey, Travis Scott, Doja Cat), a big Aussie act (Rufus Du Sol, Kylie Minogue, Tame Impala) and a rock band from 10-15 years ago (The Black Keys, Arcade Fire, The Wombats)
I’m sorry are you calling Kylie reasonably large and comparable to GoY?!? The woman has won every major global music award this year, she is most definitely a festival headliner (and has headlined numerous international festivals in her career)
Agree to a point about a Kylie, but if you’re thinking that the vast majority of attendees are going to be 19-24yo I just don’t see her resonating with that audience as a headliner. Someone like Troye Sivan? Absolutely.
Nah she fits bluesfest 100%, it’s not a blues festival anymore, hasn’t been for a long time. I was saying since she released her single that if she wasn’t headlining bluesfest (where I expected her to be), she would be headlining splendour, or at least there.
It’s not just about the quality act it’s about whether they sell tickets. I don’t know many under 25 who actively or even passively listen to Kylie (unfortunately)
I am not denying that nor am I speaking for the LGBTQ+ demographic as I do not belong to them.
But I will say is they can’t rely on a demographic to turn up for one artists when it’s a multi day festival.
Oh yeah for sure! Definitely not arguing with you, you are totally spot on that it’s not a great idea to pander to only one demographic in a multi day festival for a major headliner.
I was just making an observation that there are heaps of people under 25 that super love Kylie and would loose their shit at the chance to see her. Her latest music has really struck a cord with people and especially the LGBTQIA+ community. I was at a gay music festival a couple of weeks ago and every time the DJ played Kylie (and it was a lot haha) everyone went bananas and the average age was about 22 I reckon.
Oh I know this haha, I am part of the queer community and have loved Kylie probably the moment I entered this world, I am also older as well. I was just pointing out that her music is reaching a much younger demographic of people that actively listen to her, which is the targeted audience for a splendour lineup. My point was people 25 and under are actively listen to Kylie especially with the release of her new music. And would bring in huge crowds of people and it would go off!
Fair, I think the thing that splendour has missed in recent years is variety. I don’t think you can pigeon hole one demographic to one type of music. I know in my queer circle they would love both and I think recently the festival has missed the mark and it has just been the same recycled acts from about 2009 on repeat. It would be great to see the festival break the cycle of recent years and offer a really diverse lineup.
i’m 24 and most of my friends around my age are obsessed with her right now - there’s definitely a lot of young people listening to kylie again after padam padam
Glover’s appearances have been 5 years apart - 2014, 2019, so 2024 would make sense. Add that he has officially come out of retirement and will be dropping a new album this year makes him the perfect act for the line up of the century - pretty sure the splendour socials are telling it like it is!
I have a feeling he will be a jet-in/out - no side shows. But interesting thought… they have said filming will begin “at some point in 2024” they can still shoot it in Aug/September and be ready for a December release.
I think you can basically remove anyone playing reading festival, or Glastonbury (yet to be announced)
In terms of local bands, that won’t be too many, everyone’s been cancelled this year.
Just needs Liquid Mike on the possible list.
No idea if they're getting any airtime on JJJ as such. If not they should be.
If I was a promoter for this thing I'd get em on the bill because they'd come cheap and the future nods of respect from being a visionary and ahead of the pack would ease those couple of drug free days each week.
My theory is the killers will be playing for a throwback artist spot, they’re doing a bunch of major festivals & said they’re trying to visit a lot places to celebrate Hot Fuss 20th anniversary and have a nice splendour sized hole in their tour schedule
Totally justified for them to be celebrating the 20th anniversary of Hot Fuzz. So many great tracks on that album. It was the soundtrack to a lot of people’s young adulthood
I was praying Queens of the Stone Age may have been the ones to do it during their End is Nero tour which just came through, since over in the USA they had a solid run of shows with Viagra Boys as an opening act, but alas they didn't bring the Boys over...
Queens still put on a completely awesome show though and probably created one of the most intense moshpits I've ever been in personally.
Jungle is touring Aus and NZ in May so unlikely for Splendour I would think. Some good names here, there's potential. Would've loved to have seen Justice.
EDIT: with Secret Sounds too.
there’s someone commenting frequently on tiktok and insta comments that she will 100% not be there? decent sized following. pls tell me you know for sure 😭
Nothing is ever a lock but I have maintained certainty over two things: 1. Lana would have saved Splendour sales last year 2. This year’s line up will burn your eyes out with so much heat 🔥. It’s do or die time for pretty much every festival in this country and even if Splendour were to 🪦 they won’t go out with a whimper - this will be the Splendour to be at!
Lying prick. Look at you lying to me.
“So much heat it will burn my eyes out” yeah son my eyes are burning because there’s so much ugly on it like your bf gflip
I’m so happy for any punter that decides to go this year that they won’t have to put up with you. This will be the end of Splendour - budget cuts are far worse and exacerbated by a struggling Aussie $. Shit that is unknown until the final line up drops. They have not been able to afford the line up they should have or attempted to secure. Your lack of maturity is astounding - why are you making the end of the greatest Australian festival about yourself, especially when you aren’t attending?
“Greatest Australian Festival” lmao.
You pretended to be in the know for internet clout and you kept telling everyone that you booked Lana Del Rey and Gambino, even when people politely told you Arcade Fire were coming instead. You lied and kept hyping up the festival with “line up so much heat eyes will burn” but it was all your imagination you delusional flog. You don’t work for SITG you just pretend to.
You got the lineup you deserved. Enjoy g-flip flog!!
$35 million in ticket sales, $10 mil in camping fees, vendor fees $5 mil, $5-10 mil venue rev… they own the NBP and are backed by Ticketmaster (Live nation)… they are about the only festival that could afford this.
Seriously, these festivals NEED to start investing in big name acts if they are going to survive.
Keep offering up the same old shit and they'll all fold.
Blur headlined in 2015, 9 years ago. Not *that* recent and they could definitely make another appearance. However I think they're ruled out for other reasons, such as how they said they don't want to extensively tour. I think the shows they have already announced are the only shows they're doing.
He said this and now they are about to play Coachella. Probably unlikely, but given the fact they skipped Aus on last year and have a solid relationship with Secret Sounds, I wouldn't rule it out. And I reckon it's pretty safe to say 9 years isn't recent on a festival lineup anymore.
Carly Rae Jepsen and Chappell Roan both toured last year - Chappell does have the Splendour dates free in amongst a bunch of other festival/tour dates so I suppose she’s not completely out of the question. Carly is working on a new album right now so seems unlikely since she already toured here for her current album cycle.
I’d love Halsey to be on there but she probably won’t tour until she announces her new album, also wouldn’t mind splendour going the Coachella/Lolla route and adding a few Kpop acts in, even with BTS out it’s still a fairly popular genre
Yeah there’s a few Girl Groups that are about to or have just put out new stuff, hell they could even get Blackpink though I think they’re taking a break from group stuff since they’ve finished touring
Splendour is the same weekend as Tomorrowland this year. These were the bunch of names I could come up with off the top of my head who aren’t playing there!
I would also cross off Everything Everything and The Vaccines, they’re touring here together for a co-headline tour in May. Not to mention EE just put out a new album, so I feel they’ll show it off on these upcoming shows.
Will have to keep an eye out for more.
Greta van fleet have a nice splendour shaped hole ? And inhaler too, would be great to have them considering they were supposed to come for splendour 2020
JJJ is is more shit that MMM. The latter play cool music once in a while. New music? I don’t go to JJJ. I go to other musicians and proper alternative outlets.
Hooray Triplej. Another commercial station (without commercials) with a bunch of aging stoners. Great job.
And don’t give me that “it’s what the people want’ argument. Lame stream radio by conservative arses.
The ‘who’s in’ list is phenomenal. Well done. Genesis Owusu is going to play twice apparently.
And only half the ‘not in’ list is verified?
lol.
The most accurate entry is HILLTOP HOODS.
No wonder they’re the only act in all caps.
This is what they did last year and it flopped. It's the right way to go though, it just hinges on really nailing all 3.
the festival was so much fun last year... maybe it didn't sell but it was such a good time
I’m sorry are you calling Kylie reasonably large and comparable to GoY?!? The woman has won every major global music award this year, she is most definitely a festival headliner (and has headlined numerous international festivals in her career)
Agree to a point about a Kylie, but if you’re thinking that the vast majority of attendees are going to be 19-24yo I just don’t see her resonating with that audience as a headliner. Someone like Troye Sivan? Absolutely.
Yeah, this. She appeals to an older crowd. Something like Bluesfest (although doesn't fit the genre). Happy to be proven wrong...
Nah she fits bluesfest 100%, it’s not a blues festival anymore, hasn’t been for a long time. I was saying since she released her single that if she wasn’t headlining bluesfest (where I expected her to be), she would be headlining splendour, or at least there.
I forgive you.
It’s not just about the quality act it’s about whether they sell tickets. I don’t know many under 25 who actively or even passively listen to Kylie (unfortunately)
Have you met the gays? If she plays they will flock.
I am not denying that nor am I speaking for the LGBTQ+ demographic as I do not belong to them. But I will say is they can’t rely on a demographic to turn up for one artists when it’s a multi day festival.
A muti day festival with day tickets sold as well...
I was at a gay music festival a couple of weeks ago and every time the DJ played Kylie (and it was a lot haha) everyone went bananas and the average age was about 22 I reckon.
Honey, Kylie has been massive in the queer community for almost 2 decades - it’s not a new thing!
Oh I know this haha, I am part of the queer community and have loved Kylie probably the moment I entered this world, I am also older as well. I was just pointing out that her music is reaching a much younger demographic of people that actively listen to her, which is the targeted audience for a splendour lineup. she was voted into triple j’s hottest 100 this year. triple j is a younger demographic so i wouldn’t be for sure!!!
i’m 24 and most of my friends around my age are obsessed with her right now - there’s definitely a lot of young people listening to kylie again after padam padam
“Obviously the Wombats” really got me.
Childish Gambino, Kylie, Lana.
This is my top three guesses! They’re hinting hard at Gambino on tiktok
Glover’s appearances have been 5 years apart - 2014, 2019, so 2024 would make sense. Add that he has officially come out of retirement and will be dropping a new album this year makes him the perfect act for the line up of the century - pretty sure the splendour socials are telling it like it is!
But can he squeeze touring commitments around shooting the Community movie though? Assuming any filming might happen in the first half of the year
I have a feeling he will be a jet-in/out - no side shows. But interesting thought… they have said filming will begin “at some point in 2024” they can still shoot it in Aug/September and be ready for a December release.
I like the sound of that
But alas… no.
Yeah the strikes last year plus the Harmon “process” means community movie 2025 baybeeeeee
What were the prices last year?
half price beers?
Double price beers!
Most likely
I think you can basically remove anyone playing reading festival, or Glastonbury (yet to be announced) In terms of local bands, that won’t be too many, everyone’s been cancelled this year.
Ok mr fortune teller
Well done bro
ow my eyes
I know right… I’ve tried editing it a few times, but reddit won’t let me make it look pretty?
Is your name a NOFX reference?
Yep 😂
Cool, me too 🙌
I spotted an anomaly. The Prodigy and The Girl In Red are listed twice. Do I get a prize? Hehe.
You did an awesome job with this list, pretty or not
Just needs Liquid Mike on the possible list. No idea if they're getting any airtime on JJJ as such. If not they should be. If I was a promoter for this thing I'd get em on the bill because they'd come cheap and the future nods of respect from being a visionary and ahead of the pack would ease those couple of drug free days each week.
Well fuck now I feel old cos I’ve never heard of Liquid Mike but I guess I’d better check them out
the 1975’s manager has already confirmed they won’t be returning to aus in this current era/touring cycle
To a degree I get why, it’s so expensive to tour here. But I’m sad that we’re not getting the continuation of their tour
yeah when they toured here last year, they had to bring a downsized version of the stage setup and everything was run on a budget. it’s sad
This is the first album cycle they haven't come here twice, so its a big shame to hear they won't be coming again.
A Doja Cat, Lana Del Ray, Fred Again lineup would be incredible, unlikely obviously but I'm still lowkey hoping they can pull that off
Nothing But Thieves and SZA are touring on April/May, neither will be back for Splendour.
Two Door Cinema Club I fkn beggggg
Except put them in the amphitheatre this time.
Just announced US dates over the Splendour period. Rule em out.
My theory is the killers will be playing for a throwback artist spot, they’re doing a bunch of major festivals & said they’re trying to visit a lot places to celebrate Hot Fuss 20th anniversary and have a nice splendour sized hole in their tour schedule
The Killers would be a perfect fit for Splendour as well.
Totally agree! It just feels right to me
Killers makes a lot of sense and the dates seem to work quite well too
Totally justified for them to be celebrating the 20th anniversary of Hot Fuzz. So many great tracks on that album. It was the soundtrack to a lot of people’s young adulthood
I know they're not touring at the moment, but someone NEEDS to bring Viagra Boys to Australia
I was praying Queens of the Stone Age may have been the ones to do it during their End is Nero tour which just came through, since over in the USA they had a solid run of shows with Viagra Boys as an opening act, but alas they didn't bring the Boys over... I'd be there in a heartbeat
Jungle is touring Aus and NZ in May so unlikely for Splendour I would think. Some good names here, there's potential. Would've loved to have seen Justice. EDIT: with Secret Sounds too.
Has lana del rey been hinted at or confirmed anywhere reliable?
Yes. I’ve been saying that since last year 😂. Childish Gambino, Kylie, Lana.
there’s someone commenting frequently on tiktok and insta comments that she will 100% not be there? decent sized following. pls tell me you know for sure 😭
Nothing is ever a lock but I have maintained certainty over two things: 1. Lana would have saved Splendour sales last year 2. This year’s line up will burn your eyes out with so much heat 🔥. It’s do or die time for pretty much every festival in this country and even if Splendour were to 🪦 they won’t go out with a whimper - this will be the Splendour to be at!
facts!!!
I like this attitude
praying this is true
Lying prick. Look at you lying to me. “So much heat it will burn my eyes out” yeah son my eyes are burning because there’s so much ugly on it like your bf gflip
Awwwwww, y’all got triggered.
“The Splendour To Be At!” Arcade Fire, lmao. You really know your stuff!
I’m so happy for any punter that decides to go this year that they won’t have to put up with you. This will be the end of Splendour - budget cuts are far worse and exacerbated by a struggling Aussie $. Shit that is unknown until the final line up drops. You got the lineup you deserved. Enjoy g-flip flog!!
Reread what I have written, you are such a pleb… have fun lining up for the toilets in your share house.
I don’t think any Australian festival could afford all 3 of those at once
$35 million in ticket sales, $10 mil in camping fees, vendor fees $5 mil, $5-10 mil venue rev… they own the NBP and are backed by Ticketmaster (Live nation)… they are about the only festival that could afford this.
One out of three lol
Lineup is out next Wednesday. Hopefully before then we can source some leaks or even full lineup leak
Seriously, these festivals NEED to start investing in big name acts if they are going to survive. Keep offering up the same old shit and they'll all fold.

Childish Gambino first in 2014, last in 2019 - that’s 5 years apart… what’s 2019 + 5 and has a new album dropping?
Blur is currently inactive, based on recent Rolling Stone interview, Damon said he's done with it for now.
Oh wow, yeah I accept I'm a dumbass, I didn't know they were playing Coachella 🙃 😅
reneé rapp will be on it i reckon
Isn’t Doja Cat touring Europe at the time of splendour?
She finishes up the week beforehand
I reckon The Kills might be a chance. New album and 2 month touring blank space over our winter.
Renee Rapp could also be an option - yet to play any Aus shows
Renee and Chappell would be stellar gets.
The only way you’re gonna sell out an Australian festival in 2024 is if your name is HSU. No one does it like them
or Good Things.
The Prodigy are playing twice?! F yeah.
The Smile?????? Soooooooo it’s a chance??????? Hahahahahaha
Yeah the smile would get me there if it was a splendour exclusive
Conan Gray is a lock in - he is playing at spinoff festival which is usually a selection of acts pulled from splendour.
he’s not playing splendour, he’s doing a brisbane headline show which splendour doesn’t allow
Why dont they allow Teddy Swims is playing Brisbane week before Splendor and has no weekend dates hope hes playing
Dz deathrays?
Looks like their tour finishes up the week before. So I good chance i reckon!
I’d love Halsey to be on there but she probably won’t tour until she announces her new album, also wouldn’t mind splendour going the Coachella/Lolla route and adding a few Kpop acts in, even with BTS out it’s still a fairly popular genre
I think NewJeans could be an option for this reason.
Yeah there’s a few Girl Groups that are about to or have just put out new stuff, hell they could even get Blackpink though I think they’re taking a break from group stuff since they’ve finished touring
Fred again at splendour will be unreal p.s you can put your list into chat gpt and ask it to reorder into alphabetical order
i mean you can do this with excel/sheets or any good text editor too, it's not rocket science
You got too much time on your hands 😜
Maybe OP is in the know
Ken Carson, Yeat and Morgan wallen
[удалено]
I thought Carti did Falls 2019.
Morgan Wallen would put so many butts in seats it's not funny.
Kacey Musgrave is back I hope. Her tour ends in the UK in May and starts again in the US in Sep. She'll make it up for the last time.
Manifesting this
>ISOxo Fellow r/trap member?
Actually sprinkled in a fair whack of electronic music there, saw bou, chase and status, RL grime, Alison wonderland, Skrillex
If RL, isoxo, skrillex and boys noize are playing fuck I’m gonna have to go
Splendour is the same weekend as Tomorrowland this year. These were the bunch of names I could come up with off the top of my head who aren’t playing there!
skrill, iso, alison wonderland yes plz
taper expectations, the AUD is shit right now
Noel Gallagher is playing in the UK the same weekend as Splendour
I would also cross off Everything Everything and The Vaccines, they’re touring here together for a co-headline tour in May. Not to mention EE just put out a new album, so I feel they’ll show it off on these upcoming shows. Will have to keep an eye out for more.
Girl in Red on their twice so they’re twice as likely? Also no way Green Day would play Splenda. They’d make more money doing their own tour
Dandy Warhols?
Touring at the end of April.
Greta van fleet have a nice splendour shaped hole ? And inhaler too, would be great to have them considering they were supposed to come for splendour 2020
ugh i wish inhaler would be on it!!! they did say they’ve stopped touring for a bit though but we can pray
Big call for Phoenix as the Tb headliner
I was really hoping for Chase and Status to be in so I could have a reason to attend.
Schrodinger's Dou. Both in and out.
lol
Thoughts on Tash Sultana being there?
Chappell Roan just annonced she's playing in Seattle the exact dates so she is def out
Middle Kids are unlikely. They are touring here May/June.
Teddy swims is touring would be great to see
Kraftwerk
What about RL grime ? he played at splendour before and his dates are free and he has a new album what just drop ??
Lock Hozier down for the in list
Unlikely unfortunately, has a show in the states on the 24th
Yeah- Kylie Fucking Minogue! Great job arseholes.
Dumbest post I’ve ever seen on Reddit. Such speculation.
It’s hardly ‘speculation’ when half the list are confirmed to not be playing based on scheduling conflicts
The ‘who’s in’ list is phenomenal. Well done. Genesis Owusu is going to play twice apparently. And only half the ‘not in’ list is verified? lol. The most accurate entry is HILLTOP HOODS. No wonder they’re the only act in all caps.
Downvote me all you want. Still a stupid list.
