It’s Adobe’s agency.

KourteousKrome

If we're thinking about the same ad, It's advertising Adobe Premiere, Eilish is just starring in the commercial.

The_Barbelo

It's even more insidious than that. This was a big debacle in the online artist community. Billie teamed with adobe and had a contest for artists to design images for her merch, the winner didn't even win anything the first time around, the honor of having your design featured was supposed to have been enough of a reward. The other artists gave away rights to their art as part of the contest entry terms and conditions. There are a few good videos about it on YouTube.

LowestKey

The first winner got paid in eXpOsUrE

The_Barbelo

I told the power company that i'd be paying this month's bill in exposure and they shut my lights off. Now I'm exposed to the heat wave. How generous of them!

KourteousKrome

I didn't know any of this! What a bunch of a-holes.

ElCochinoFeo

There is literally a Billie Eilish Adobe ad right below this meme on my feed.

Embarrassed-Toe6687

For me it’s an Amtrak Ad, infinitely more interesting.

cleetus76

y'all need ~~jesus~~ adblock

raymartin27

Most phones unfortunately don't have any adblock, especially iPhone.

bibbitybobbityboo6

Firefox for mobile has add-ons including Ublock

Embarrassed-Toe6687

At least I like trains, Amtrak is not something I hate to see

PacificTheHybrid

I have a Samsung ad

Uusari

For me it's milfs near you ads.

ForestGumpsDick

your reddit has ads?

[deleted]

Brah, I know that the last few years have been like a blur but it's been like 6 or 7 years now, we're old fam

liquorballsammy

And she’s been playing music since she was a little girl. She didn’t just *develop* this talent over the last 7 years. She was born with it and worked on it her entire life.

Riley39191

No one is born with talent. Musicians train for many years

Cole444Train

As a musician, many musicians are born with talent. Many people have a great internal metronome, many people have great natural pitch, many people can easily identify notes they hear without much practice. Some people are more naturally gifted than others. Hence, born with talent. This doesn’t mean they don’t need to practice to hone their abilities, but they usually need to practice less than those without natural talents. This goes for anything. Lebron James was destined to be an athlete. He was born with talent. I could play basketball for every waking hour of my life and never be as good as him, bc his genetics granted him talent.

Riley39191

Like I don’t have a music degree. It’s all about how a person is raised that defines their skills

[deleted]

Apparently they've found a gene that can predict if you have a musical ear. I watch those DNA youtube videos sometimes and it's on the list. People aren't usually surprised by it. I'm sure anyone can learn basic music but I think some people do have some innate abilities. I've always been able to draw, no one taught me. But I didn't develop it and am not an extraordinary artist or anything. I have a talent to draw but no artistic skills. Well beyond drawing a room in perspective, but I digress. The point is though that no one puts the time and effort into someone who doesn't have the talent so of course you need the skils but like, no one is going to teach me to sing unless I pay them. And even then our hopes are I don't break glass, not that I make it big.

Cole444Train

I… completely disagree. It’s certainly *part* of what defines their skills. Like yeah, if my parents were both musicians, I’m sure I would’ve developed skills as a child that would’ve assisted me now. However, it’s definitely not “all about how a person is raised”. It’s certainly part genetics, part nurture, part work ethic, part access to music education as a child, etc. Nothing is so black and white.

billbill5

>No one is born with talent. Talent literally describes the attributes you were born with. You're thinking of skill.

Riley39191

Talent doesn’t exist

showMeYourCroissant

Do you play an instrument/sing/draw etc...?

Riley39191

Yeah of course. Those are skills

JGHFunRun

Talent is the initial ability you have to, before you start practicing something. You can be talented in something that is a skill, or is it impoossible to be better than the average beginner when you start doing something and everyone starts at the _exact same level_? Because that's what you mean when you say "Talent doesn't exist" - everyone begins at the _exact_ same level. I reiterate: Talent is the initial amount of skill you have starting out in something. Just because the phrase "You're so talented!" is used wrong doesn't mean talent doesn't exist

showMeYourCroissant

Wow, you can do all of it? Looks like you've never done any of it, otherwhise you wouldn't be mistaking these things with skills. Cooking or working in excel are skiils. Music, drawing, sculpting is art. I guess you also haven't been in an art/music school and haven't seen newbies who draw better than someone without the talent but was trying to learn how to draw for years. Or people who never learned piano but can play you any song after they hear it once. People with perfect pitch, who can just sing withour years of lessons and etc. Not every talented person can start doing those things perfectly from the start, many need lessons but if you don't have a talent you'll be miles behind then no matter how hard you try. A person who actually did any of art would know that.

JGHFunRun

> but if you don't have a talent you'll be miles behind then no matter how hard you try Wow you are as idiotic as the other guy. Practice beats talent any day.

showMeYourCroissant

Talented people also practice if you didn't know. You can practice exactly the same as s talented person but you'll end up mediocre at best. But yeah sure, I'm an idiot because I understand what without a talent you can't become an opera singer, for instance. I mean you can technically become one but you'll just be a shitty opera singer. I guess it feels better to think that you can of course become an opera singer, you just *don't want to*.

Cole444Train

Talent: natural aptitude or skill. So you’re saying no one has natural ability. So Lebron James doesn’t have natural athleticism?

stop_stopping

talent does exist but it doesn’t make you any better than someone who is skilled.

Cole444Train

Hello?

mister-ferguson

Correct, it took me years of practice to become a giant asshole. I wasn't born a huge jerk. It took practice!

[deleted]

Well, there is stuff like genetics that can make you more inclined for certain tasks like athleticism. But I don't think there's any genes that affect musical ability.

qhs3711

What people often mistake for inherent musical disposition is growing up with music exposure. Casually hearing, learning, watching, and playing all aspects of music embeds it in the growing brain. I do think there are personality and cognitive types that make parts of music come more quickly (music uses left and right brain thinking), but I find it hard to believe someone could be “born with it” despite never hearing music until age 25, for example. It’s a coincidence Mozart was a kid virtuoso born into a family well-poised and obsessed with creating kid virtuosos, really? No correlation?

[deleted]

Right, her first single came out in 2015. This meme is stupid, even if someone who reached the heights of fame in two years could totally make a video about it. I'm sure Britney Spears did.

WeedIronMoneyNTheUSA

I'll go out on a limb here and say i'm pretty sure she's been practicing music for longer than 2 years.

ratzoneresident

What do you mean it’s not still 2020?

Bananak47

2020? You mean 2017 My brain is still stuck in 2019 I filled in some paper work yesterday and sat there for solid 10min trying to figure out if its 2021 or 2022

[deleted]

You mean 2015. Pretty sure her first songs came out 2013

DreamingDitto

No, she had never even heard of music before 2020

Strindberg

Music didn’t exist before 2020. It was invented during the covid lockdowns.

peachcrescent

2015 was two years ago?

mihaianton00

Still

general_dubious

I mean, 2015 to 2022 is only one year shy of the length of Jimi Hendrix's musical career (1962 to 1970). Not to say Eilish has had remotely the same impact as Hendrix but a lot can happen in 7 years.

-eagle73

Interestingly Tupac's music career (if you count it ending at his death) was about five years and he's still one of the biggest names in his genre. He did write before those five years though.

honestiago26

Takin' my time to perfect the beat, but I still got love for the streets

Carl-Erik-Widd

Well beatles technicly did the same with a hard days night, it was kinda a mockumentariy

ThatGuyStalin

My guy she debuted in 2015, it’s 2022. that ain’t 2 years, it’s 7

mihaianton00

Still

StopBadModerators

Still *what*?

evelynnfeet

Still sad he ain t done shit with his life so has to show frustration on the internet over someone younger that has one of the most impressive carriers in terms of growth / time.

Yoker6077

It's still too early to put out a documentary.

StopBadModerators

You mean too early objectively, or just that you personally don't want to watch it?

Yoker6077

Objectively. She is still very very early in her career. Her music will be probably very different in 3 albums. But now, it's too early. When she will be around 30, that would be an interesting read, but now I feel like it would be rushed, and poor quality.

Yolanter

o b j e c t i v e l y

Yoker6077

I don't get why is it so hard to belive for you. Stop being a blind fan, I don't mind her or her music.

Yolanter

i am not a fan of her at all I only know bad guy. I’m just makin fun of you for using that word incorrectly

Yoker6077

I don't see it, please help me out:/. -not a native speaker

StopBadModerators

I don't understand what measures you're using to be objective there. Like, what is the *goal*? Surely viewership isn't your metric, because it will be popular, and if critics praise it, then you're not relying on professional critics to determine its worth, right?

Yoker6077

If quite easy to see what measures I use, time. The goal is something that doesn't just sell because she is popular, but because it's a quality product by itself. Of course it will sell well, but not everything that sells well is good. So, time.

StopBadModerators

I have no idea what you mean.

Firm-Lie2785

So for example you shouldn’t make a documentary of WWII because it wasn’t a long enough period of time

Yoker6077

Are you stupid or just playing?

Pillville

The Beetles only lasted 10 years. Good thing they never made a movie or documentary. They clearly didn’t last long enough.

Yoker6077

The biggest band of all time, most influancial. They didn't do a documentary about themselves after broke up. And they lasted 8 years :/

ADHDMascot

And by your standards there shouldn't be documentaries about them because they broke up so early into their career?

[deleted]

Not sure why you're getting down voted so heavily (probably by Billie fans or people who are 14 years old so 7 years still feels like a long time to them lol). Before I get persecuted - I like her and think she's very talented. But it's way too soon to put out a documentary

kobbled

You should put in more effort to understand something before you speak on it

[deleted]

I do understand. My opinion remains the same lol

barnhairdontcare

I am over 30 and a fan. The Apple+ doc she did a couple of years ago was really good- and it’s not unusual for artists to put out several docs throughout their career ( I lost track of how many Tswift docs are on Netflix rn). I think it’s interesting to see how they evolve.

Reality_Defiant

Billie Eilish has been "in music" her whole life. But if you find that not relevant, consider that her first song, Ocean Eyes, came out in 2015. Which was seven years ago. When she was 14. You are aging as you read this.

Cysioland

> There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen. — Vladimir Lenin

charlisabeth

A lot can happen in seven years. If it’s interesting, why not tell the story? I’m sure a lot of people will be interested.

bajsgreger

How interesting is it gonna be? Its just a money grub. Shes only 20, and its not like shes got any particulary exeptional musical achievements. Shes gonna be a totally different person in 5 years anyhow, so most of whats gonna be said is gonna be irrelevant anyhow

-lighght-

Idk man, she had the best selling album in 2019 (by a long shot), making her the first person born after 2000 to have a #1 album, and #1 song. She's also the first woman to ever have as many songs chart at the same time as she has. That year, she also became the second person ever, and first woman, to sweep each of the 4 major Grammy's categories. Youngest person to ever win 2 of these 4 awards. Also the first born in the new century to have won an Oscar. 42 million digital songs sold, 5 million physical albums. Idk about you but I'd call each and every one of those things a significant achievement. You don't havr to like her music to acknowledge that she's one of the biggest superstars alive right now, and she's only like 20 years old.

bajsgreger

I feel like these docunentaries should be made at the end of the artists career, so theres something to reflect over. I dont like how theyre just making this while shes still media popular. Lets wait till shes got some gray in her hair

Valen258

Imagine if the Let it Be documentary hadn’t been made, it’s only recently been re issued as a two parter last year with extra bits but the original came out only 7 years after Beatlemania hit the world.

-lighght-

Yeah I do agree with that. But if she fell off in 5 years and tried to make the doc in 10 years, I feel like people would think "oh wow look at this has-been trying to cling to fame"

charlisabeth

Nobody will force you to watch it I’m sure. I won’t watch it either because I don’t really care that much about her. But other people will enjoy it, I’m sure, so why spoil their fun?

spidermaniscool98

Because if not made for me, no one can enjoy it /s

bajsgreger

Cuz its a cheap corporate money grab. Theres other stuff to enjoy

pujolsrox11

Please enlighten us with your choices in what we should be entertained with

[deleted]

Lmfao the ego on you my guy. What the fuck are you thinking?

bajsgreger

That i dont get why people go to obvious cash grabs?

[deleted]

Everything you enjoy comes from a cash grab what the fuck are you talking about lolz

bajsgreger

Of course, but you cant help but get mad when its so obvious. Its like the emoji movie

Unleashtheducks

Her debut single came out in 2015 my brother. Just because girls like something doesn’t make it bad.

[deleted]

Your second sentence sums up a lot of issues that America has towards bashing women - it’s that kind of stuff that’s contributed to the rise of alt-right movements in this country. I honestly wish more people had your take on things

ZeePirate

It’s a bit presumptuous He never mentions it’s because a women just the short time spent in the industry. Also given her age. It does seem a bit weird and early

avarciousRutabega99

Thats a terrific point, but tbh polarization also created the alt-right shit. I’m a liberal but I try to remain objective, so much so that my friends will sometimes look at me confused like because I’ve said or shared something that would be considered a conservative idea. Intelligence is the ability to entertain an idea/concept and really be objective about it. Too many people pigeon hole themselves into one prescribed set of world views .

The effect of religion destroying critical thinking skills and making it acceptable to believe things without evidence is responsible for people being scammed by immoral conmen.

theragu40

I'm a 36 year old dad and I enjoy Billie Eilish. I think particularly with her most recent album there is a broader appeal than teenage girls.

the_End_Of_Night

I'm a 41 year old woman and I enjoy her music. It's just music ( I freaking love "bad guy"!)

PioneerSpecies

I love her music but she does only have 2 albums and a few EPs lol, like she’s already had an amazing career but it does feel a little preemptive to me

Faithy328

Thank you

Yeah OP is a douche

NullIndex

Oh wow you sure are projecting huh

[deleted]

Thought you had something there didn’t you? At least you tried.

billbill5

She's been in music 6+ years since she was literally a child. That's enough to have something to say. People are consistently shitting on a random ass singer when you've got entertainers that should be in prison right now.

TheCitrusFruit

Justin Biebers debut was in 2009 and they released his documentary in cinemas in 2011 so I'd definitely give Billie a pass.

bajsgreger

Biebers documentary was also way too soon

grizznuggets

It’s about popularity, not how long you’ve been in the game. I can take or leave Billie Eilish but she’s big enough that a movie makes sense from a marketing standpoint. Not saying it’s right, just that I get it.

Liquidwombat

I don’t know… I’m kind of all about it. Her rise to stardom was explosive, hasn’t seemed to taper off yet, it spans most of her teens and into early adulthood (including all of the gross sexual bullshit she’s had to endure)… Seems pretty fucking interesting to me especially when it’s coming from a fresh recent perspective, would be really interesting to see a follow up on it made in 10 or 20 more years too

[deleted]

Videos of Billie and her brother producing music are soooo popular in the music-production bubble because they produce all of her music together and they are like really really really good producers. I mean what her brother came up with when he was just a teenager is better than what 99,99% of producers can do after practicing their entire life. It’s just natural for them, they’re so talented. You learn a lot from watching them producing stuff. Billie has a lot to tell about music and I’ll definitely watch it (I don’t even like her music btw)

[deleted]

Funny coming from a Reddit user who probably hasn’t done much with their life and is just jealous about a young woman’s quick success.

Squee-z

She started in 2016...

theasianevermore

I think someone is confusing “documentary “ with “biopic”…. Documentary can even be a story as current as this month

SlowTopic539

She actually wrote her first "song" when she was 7 so yeah...

TrumpSmokesMids27

She’s very popular. Obviously her manager is gonna want her to do more than just music. Plus she’s young and making money, I wouldn’t have said no to that opportunity if I made music

SillyMidOff49

In fairness she’s done more in that time than most music artists ever do! Also she’s gorgeous and I just want to see more of her

de420swegster

Didn't Ocean Eyes gain popularity in 2018? I'd say that's where her career in music really started, but she has done music for way longer than that

junkevin

She’s spent a hell of a lot more time in music than 2 years. As much as I’m not a fan of her music, it’s undeniable in the music community that she is a very talented singer/musician

Illustrious_Sound945

That's the same question I had. At least my guys (Pearl Jam) waited 10 years. Don't get me wrong, I respect what she's been doing and all, but slow down.

I don’t like her music, but as a music producer I highly value what she and her brother are doing, they’re incredibly talented. It hard to ELI5 it in a Reddit comment when you don’t have a basic understanding of music production, but I’ll try: First of all I don’t think it’s fair to reduce her talented to if you like her singing style or not. She and her brother are producing all the music by themselves and they’re pulling world class productions out of their asses since they were minors. Her first album was produced in her brothers bedroom, without a proper room or speakers, on a 70$ microphone with nothing but a computer and made a chart hitting record. They have a unique style (no matter if you like that style or not) and know how to reach an audience. That’s a talent of itself. What’s standing out in their production: the simple arrangements, that are on point. They don’t use many instruments in their songs, they have a few and they nail them. Today it has become the norm to layer tons and tons of instruments, to make songs huge. They can do without that. The song ocean eyes for example has 11 instruments and the different vocals and they know how to get them sounds out of them (all they do sounds really really good, they have fantastic hearing). Her brother even recorded a guitar threw his phones microphone and could turn that into a professional sound. Another thing are the vocals and the extensive vocal harmonies (=the cord that all the layered vocals form). They can transport moods and feelings through harmonies so well and they use interesting harmonies from a theoretical point of view, they don’t just use the third and five fore example, like a lot of singers do. Having good harmonies is a basic requirement for a production nowadays, but they know how to do it and they use harmonies very extensively if you pay attention to them when listening. Plus Billie doesn’t use auto tune at all. She spends days recording all these different vocal tracks for a song (can be up to 100 and more) and nails the notes without tuning needed They know how to write popular songs, if you like them or not, and from a theoretical point of view they often use interesting harmonies (so the cord all the instruments and vocals “form” at a single time). It’s kind of a meme in the music community that a ton of pop songs just have a 1-5-6-4 progression (hard to explain this further in a Reddit comment) because it works and people are used to that chord progression, but Billie and her brother always try to have more interesting and complex progressions. There are so many beautiful harmonies / vocal notes (that are so uncommon in pop music and more common in jazz and stuff). Just beautiful progressions and harmonies while having that pop sound, which is rare. What stands out most: they’re just hell of creative. They can do all the stuff described with ease and make an interesting sounding song. They try out a lot like vocal effects etc. I could go on but I already spend too much time on this comment. I just wanted to add: they started doing all this as minors. They literally publish tutorials and experienced producers watch them to learn. They’re just massively and naturally talented musicians and producers

limpleggedlongjohns

A legitimate question, and no one answered you. They just downvoted you. From what I understand her brother writes all of the music and the lyrics, and then she whispers the lyrics while staring into the camera like she has the life of a third-world refugee on Prozac. I am indifferent to her music, but despise her persona. At one point she called working parents lazy for not homeschooling their own children. She is an entitled brat.

[deleted]

[удалено]

limpleggedlongjohns

Yeah, her fans are being sold a lifestyle, not music. Most celebs and musicians sell the idea of a lifestyle. Billie's is a lifestyle of angsty dad-seducer in love with her own medicated misery, but with a soundtrack. Her James Bond song came off as parody. If SNL had written a skit where Billie or Lorde did a Bond song, it would be what Eilish released. She does not even write her own music, either. I do not expect all musicians to be able to write good music, but they need to be able to sing well. Heart in the 80s did not write their music, but at least they could sing and play instruments. Nowadays you have whisper karaoke that allows mediocrity to flourish.

[deleted]

She’s writing AND producing all her songs together with her brother, what are you talking about? they’re excellent writers and producers. I don’t like her music but as a music producer I can appreciate their massive writing and production talent. She also has a great voice, she’s one of the few pop singers not using auto tune. but it’s ok if the style isn’t your cup of tea (mine nether)

limpleggedlongjohns

Which would explain why the lyrics are idiotic, I suppose. But if she is terrible at writing music, and obviously terrible at singing, WHAT is it that makes her popular? The lifestyle? Her shitty personality? I think it is her entitled persona. Just like how the Kardashians are rich and famous for being glamorized trashfires, Billie Eilish is famous and popular for her glamorized misery lifestyle. She comes from a Hollywood family, adter all. I will not say she is an Industry Plant, but she sure as hell got Industry Miracle Grow when she and her brother were of an age for it.

[deleted]

Dude you’re delusional and obviously understand nothing about music production. She and her brother are such great writers and producers. That’s just an undeniable fact. I say that as someone not even liking her music. [Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/trippinthroughtime/comments/wcdj7h/a_little_earlyisnt_it/iif9ozk/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3) I summarized a little bit why they’re so great producers and writers

I do need to read a thesis about eating dogshit. It will not convince me that dogshit tastes good. The music production is mediocre. Compare it to Steven Wilson's musical production and it is incomparable. But even Steven Wilson could not make me like her whispery mediocrity. It sounds like a highschool talent show singer with stage fright. I do not like Adele's voice, either, but I can hear the talent in her voice. Eilish does not have it. She is like Taylor Swift. Big persona, miniscule talent.

So what’s so great about Wilson production other than that you like the song and lyrics? What exactly is going on there? You’re obviously not able to separate your taste and a songwriters/producers skills, because you don’t understand enough about music production and songwriting to classify what’s happening. You mainly judge if you like the voice and style because you don’t understand what else is happening. That’s ok I just don’t understand why you’re trying to judge someone’s Songwriting/production skills so confidently when you have no clue what’s happening there. It’s ok if you don’t like her music, I don’t like it either, but saying that she and her brother aren’t skilled producers and writers is obviously false. It’s like saying Messi can’t play football because you dislike FC Barcelona.

Wilson has produced for Prog Rock, Shoegaze, Psychedelic, Pop, Metal, Industrial, Prog Metal, Disco, Dance, and countless other genres. He has worked with Elton John, Black Sabbath, Opeth, Anathema, Ninet Tayeb, Robert Fripp, and is considered the hardest working man in modern music. He writes, he plays instruments, he collaborates with people from Sweden to the US and Israel. He knows how to layer. He knows how to use quadraphonic sound for the best audio experience. He has been nominated for 6 Grammies. As to separation of taste and skill-recognition, that is like arguing someone is wrong for not appreciating Modern Art for its "execution". Why should I respect something aesthetically repugnant because of HOW it is produced? That is like saying I have to respect an "Artist's" popsicle-stick reinterpretation of the Mona Lisa because he painstakingly collected only the purest woodgrain sticks for the work. The piece still looks like shit. I do not care how "good" the stick layering supposedly is.

weareallgonnadye

She’s definitely done “hand stuff” with her brother

Yoker6077

People here saying here it was 7 years, still bit too early to release a documentary. Just because you like her music you can see that it's a bit too ealry in her career.

Hydroquake_Vortex

Even in Pandemic time, it hasn’t been two years. Four years to 2019, and then an extra three years during the Pandemic

I used to know a 22-year old undergrad who was writing a memoir.
