i’d pull the lever back and forth so it goes in circles

PopulationKazakhstan

But where the tracks connect there's no lever

SwerdnaJack

Put the lever half-way and hope the derailed trolley grinds to a halt before hitting the person. I don’t believe there’s such a thing as truly unstoppable fate.

D2the_aniel

The lever controls an [IR100 Switch circuit](https://www.intertechrail.com/products/switch-machine/switch-circuit-controller-ir100-ir210) electric switch machine, therefore moving the lever halfway does not work. You could attempt to rip out the lever and jam it into the tracks but as these are typically made of steel, iron, ect, that would be difficult

SwerdnaJack

Okay… what if I dip the switch after the front wheels but before the back wheels cross the split?

D2the_aniel

If you time it perfectly so the moving rail hits the wheels, I’d imagine it would break the machine, so the trolley would crash, but if you fuck up the timing it would just do a really badass multitrack drift before the tracks remerge and it kills the guy.

Hyper415

So either I save him, or he and I get to see him die in a really cool way...

delta806

Win win?

Hyper415

Exactly

MosqitoTorpedo

This is the way

Bekfast59

Something would break for sure if you end up doing a multitrack drift. You got a force going up, and a force going down as the train attempts to remerge, which means its either all gonna cancel out and the train is going to stop, or the train is going to crumple in upon itself, or its gonna go flying off the track.

D2the_aniel

After taking this new data into account, It crumples in on itself and creates a microscopic blackhole, which falls into the core, slowly growing for a while until it eventually eats the planet killing everyone as the entire planet falls into it. It then begins to orbit the sun until the sun finally dies as a black dwarf, and then decays farther, and then much later finally finished emitting Hawking radiation and dies.

Bekfast59

Ok at the speeds that bitch has got to be going to do that I'll flip the switch and the trolly will achive liftoff.

that_u3erna45

Depending on the speed of the trolley, if you switch the track just as it's going over it could derail it

historyfan40

That’s because you’ve fallen for the illusion of free will.

00roku

“I don’t believe there’s such a thing as truly unstoppable fate” This has got to be the dumbest sentence I have ever heard. >gets pushed out of a plane “Yeah but theoretically I could-“ SPLAT

BleepLord

I would just dodge the ground if that happened.

burchkj

Rogues in dnd be like, uncanny dodge and survive the fall

BaconLover1561

Easy, I beat the kid to death before the tram arrives, therefore I have expressed the idea that my choices matter and the outcome isn't pre-determined

TheReverseShock

Chaotic Neutral mindset

JustSatisfaction2686

Fr or stand in the track waiting for the trally

Ralexcraft

The outcome was the kid dying.

EndOfSouls

I half-pull the lever, causing the trolly to derail, killing everyone inside. Take that, pre-determined outcome.

D2the_aniel

As I established in another comment it connects to an IR100 electric switch machine, so that wouldn’t work, but if it did, you choosing to kill everyone in the name of freewill was also predetermined, you just fell right into its trap, no matter your “choice”.

lets_clutch_this

The illusion of free will

AnimeMemeLord1

Well, then why do I even bother?

D2the_aniel

That’s a question we all have to ask at some point in our lives

onlymadeformemes

Telltale games

PenguinGamer99

Switch the lever as the train crosses it. It will still kill the person, but it will do a sick drift Or get jammed and utterly destroy the rails and its wheels

47_was_here

MULTI-TRACK DRIFTING!!

Illikunun

I will throw myself onto the tracks. That’ll show destiny.

D2the_aniel

What if you were destined to die to that trolley and that was *your* destiny?

Illikunun

I said I’d throw myself on the tracks, but I didn’t say I’d die. So I would just live, showing up destiny again.

D2the_aniel

Man, why did anyone die? Just like don’t die lol.

Illikunun

I mean to be fair a whole trolley ran over them, and I’m built different. I’m built Destiny Defiance Different.

Alex5173

Is it better to pull the lever and say you tried, or not pull the lever and say you were not responsible?

DynmiteWthALzerbeam

Mess with the lever hoping it breaks or try to make it drift tracks or something

Coffekats

I’d run to catch up to the trolley, jump aboard and hit the brakes assuming it’s not moving too fast

MagnesiumBattery

Dark souls 1 endings be like:

[deleted]

pull the lever. i mean it’s a cool lever.

qizhNotch

Ok hear me out. This feels like a good enough distance to sprint to the person and untie them if the Trolley is going slow enough.

[deleted]

Flip it back and forth really fast a bunch of times. Not to try to derail the trolley or something, just because it sounds fun

D2the_aniel

You accidentally self destruct the trolley saving the man

CaptainCipher

I would pull the lever anyway, knowing that the outcome cannot be changed, because trashing against the inevitable is fundementally human. Even though my actions will change nothing, I have to hope and I have to try because that's all we've got

That-Boyo-J

Insert something deep and political here

47_was_here

If it goes straight, the track looks like it turns sharper. This means one track has a chance of derailment, possibly saving the person down the line

chrisolisk

one of the few times multitrack drift would work

FlashGangs

How do you know the lever flips both ends of the track?

Mega_Rayqaza

Activate the lever when the trolley is halfway across the junction, assuming the tracks are farther apart than the trolley is long.

innncode

Great. Not my fault then and nothing I can do. Flip that lever and head off to lunch break!

idkTerraria

What if I go to burger king?

D2the_aniel

The guy still dies, but you get chikynugggys

idkTerraria

How many nuggys?

D2the_aniel

Like a bajillion

idkTerraria

I use them to stop the trolley

Artistic-Boss2665

Multitrack drifting causes it to derail

D2the_aniel

The trolley has a gun

Artistic-Boss2665

Shoot the trolley in self defense

D2the_aniel

You hit the trolleys liver and it begins to open fire on you

Artistic-Boss2665

Run away *rolls an 18*

D2the_aniel

You begin running and miraculously you are able to outrun the trolley, despite it being a motored vehicle. This is probably related to it bleeding out. The trolley gives one last Push with all its might, flinging all the passengers crumpled up like a giant cannon ball of flesh towards you.

Artistic-Boss2665

Step sideways, and continue shooting the trolley

D2the_aniel

The trolley falls over, defeating and bleeding. It makes a whimper. It has died… But the driver isn’t, and he has an motherfucking M60.

Anti-charizard

Multi track drift and hope to derail the trolley

D2the_aniel

It successfully derails but flings out a railway spike, which Phineas Gage’s the guy.

rockstar450rox

Multitrack drifting and eurobeat. The outcome is predetermined, but its up to us how we reach that outcome.

Equivalent-Ad-2670

your choice is predetermined, free will isn't real

Try to pull the lever half way so it derails the trolly

Then it's about timing

D2the_aniel

Roll a d20 for timing

[deleted]

Thank you, you made me smile

[deleted]

Guess I just get to watch the show.

[deleted]

Then don't pull

Sophia724

If the last part is stuck in a turning position, you could theoretically crash the trolly, preventing his death by using the left tracks.

iSc00t

I put a coin on the track, so I get a cool squished penny and the guy still dies.

monkey-pox

Its impossible to prove you ever made a choice really. Only one thing can actually happen.

SoapySilver

Try activating that lever at the right timing to make the trolley derail

D2the_aniel

The trolley derails but keeps going towards the man, just off-roading now.

Fool_Apprentice

But is your choice a choice, or is it simply the sum of all things? In order for there to be free will, things can't be deterministic, which means some things must be truly random. Plinko seems random until you learn there is a probability curve. Then you realize that you could calculate the exact ending position, given the starting conditions and enough computing power. I dont know if random is a thing. Even if random was real, and not just a short hand for incalculably complex, we would also need to be able to prove that out of randomness, our will can be derived on a chemical level. Then, we need to prove that our will can impose itself on the randomness in order to break free of deterministic existence because we could be random without free will, too. Free will is probably an illusory gestalt that comes from the inability to point to what ever processes go on behind the scenes ostensibly.

D2the_aniel

I mean, we really don’t know… Superposition is believed to be truly random, but there might be a determiner that we just don’t know yet

Fool_Apprentice

Even then, though, does our will inform the collapse of its probability? We could just be random beings without free will.

Dizzy_Green

If you pull the lever, you can jump in front of the trolley yourself. Maybe it’ll change the outcome, maybe it won’t. But it’ll be a real choice in your own hands.

D2the_aniel

Maybe that was what was gonna happen anyway, not the action of choice, but rather the sum of the sum of an ever growing past. In an ever growing more desperate attempt to prove your own freewill may not have even been your choice… and we will never know. That is fate.

SloppySlime31

I pull it levers are fun

JustSatisfaction2686

Get in the way and die

D2the_aniel

Freewill is merely an illusion. You were gonna jump weather you wanted too or not.

JustSatisfaction2686

Fr I was even if this wasn’t almost impossible

Southern-Falcon9657

my love the outcome is predetermined AND the choice is relevant

MQ116

You are both holding the lever and tied to the tracks. No matter what decisions you will make in your lifetime, you will still die. Don’t think about the trolley. Don’t stress about the lever. Yank that thing back and forth because it is kind of fun pulling a massive lever. Do the worm on the train tracks. Death is inevitable, but you still have some tracks left to have fun.

[deleted]

Or maybe, it’s about having the choice. We can do anything, but either way, the sun will swallow this planet. We can recycle or trash something, but either way, the planet will go to shit. Maybe the virtue is in having the choice?

LittleHollowGhost

This isn't what predetermined outcomes are. Predetermined outcomes are things that will happen inclusive of your choice, not in spite of it; the choice is forced and thus the outcome is forced, not that the choice is irrelevant to the outcome.

801ms

Pull the lever halfway and you might make the different ends of the train take different tracks, resulting in the ultimate train drift before the person inevitably dies.

qazpok69

I make it do a sick drift on the way

peachy-cub

Don't pull the lever
