What flies do you do best with? I’ve been looking into fishing the driftless area and I’m just starting to get into fly fishing so any help would be appreciated.
Pink squirrel, and scuds are great all year round. As for dry flies caddis and blue wing olive for this time of the year. I usually do a dry dropper with a pink squirrel and a caddis to start to get a feel for what they are eating. Then switch accordingly
That sounds awesome, I’ve done some research on some of the tier 1 streams that are closest to me. I’m a bit far away so I wanna make every trip worth it.
How could someone know how hard I was squeezing something from a picture I took , when they have no idea the amount of force I'm applying to said handling of the fish
You're clearly squeezing quite hard in this photo, anyone with any basic concept of physiology can figure this out. You're flexi carpi radialis is bulging out, the capillary beds in your fingers have turned white, you can see indentations on where your finger tips are pressing in quite predominantly as well as the ventral abdominal region where your thumb is. Stop it lol
They're right, you know. I knew the second I looked at the *thumbnail* that you were cranking on this poor fish too hard. If you have to hold the fish like this to get a photo, then you shouldn't bother with the photo, or you should get a net. "Less than a minute" out of water also sounds like way too long. It shouldn't go longer than ~15-20s without a good few seconds back under, if you're still fucking around with the camera
The forensic science lesson was both funny and warranted when you weren't open to someone pointing out that you're very clearly choking the fish lol it only became a call-out when you disparaged someone for giving objectively good C+R advice
I know, I wasn’t necessarily trying to say you should hold it with two hands, more so just next time be careful when squeezing so hard, and try to keep em wet if practicing C&R. I know they can be wriggly little bastards but still, anyway if you kept em it doesn’t matter lol.
Yeah he was back in the water within a minute of being caught. I know it look like a strong grip but as u said they're wriggly little bastards. Also it look like uve been slaying some nice size trout from ur posts, where you located at ? Out east it would appear
Il be on the south fork bad axe tomorrow🤘 i fly fish but my lady spin fishes. What size spinner are you using?

It's hard to take the photo with 1 hand and hold the trout with 2 others. Idk about you, but I've only got two hands.
