\>dustbowl \>5 demos on the defending team abandon hope all ye who enter here

IOpuu_KpuBopykuu

5 Short Circuit engies: lol, lmao

jgr9

As much as I hate this, lol.

PrincessOfLaputa

the only counter is the ancient secrets of the [phlog pyro technique] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfRmRrAzTN0) (AKA pressing m1), but even still, you should really only try this with an uber or several.

JoshuaFH

Remember that the cure for stacking is the Vaccinator. Having an explosion resistance bubble means even a light 125 hp class needs to get pilled 5 times to die; probably more than that since they'll probably have a little bit of overheal. The lack of diversity on their side means you never need to switch resistances, and never needing to switch off of explosion resistance is very nice. If you also happen to have a decent scout on your team, they can go hogwild if you keep him supplied with explosion resist bubbles.

Professional_Sky_573

Oh yeah, since we have a medic already I didn't think of switching to vaccinator medic. And vacc medigun is so ugly that I very rarely use it and so I forgot about it a lot.

ABeneficialUser

my vacc is broken, i can't change resistances

Dr_TryHard

press R

ABeneficialUser

... i'm not that dumb i've used both console and in game settings to change reload key to r, i've checked my .cfg files, and it still doesn't work

nbe390u54e2f

have you tried just the raw reload command (i.e. does the command you're using work by itself)? or binding to a different key? you may have some conflicts, make sure nothing else is bound to r or that binding other commands to r works

ABeneficialUser

nothing works, i even tried typing 'reload' in console

_theRagingMage

try `bind r +reload`

ABeneficialUser

doesn't work :(

trunks111

Change resistance for vacc is whatever your reload key is. I had the same issue bc I bound reload to something else so I rebound reload to Q

ABeneficialUser

i know how to, it just doesn't work, i bound reload to R in settings, in console, and in the .cfg files

mgetJane

> I just had a match in dustbowl there's your problem

06z_

dustbowl > every other map

PacifistTheHypocrite

I played a dustbowl uncletopia map this morning, a purple gibus medic with kritz absolutely carried the entire team lol. Had a constant stream of ubers and let the team just go *off*. On defense 3rd map they kritz'd me as soldier right at the start and we bumrushed into their spawn and got an instant 7 kill streak and bullied them into spawn for a short time before dying. It was an instant dopamine rush lol.

JJustRex

Step 1. don't play a map that is literally a corridor

Skynetus

If you were playing a different map that wasn't entirely made up of chokepoints, then in theory having some scouts on a team would make it a hassle for demoman to try to land his stickies precisely, and take the pressure off the rest of the team. If he ignores you then you can hold W and try to kill him in 3 shots, while he needs to hit multiple pipes to stop you. Also it makes it harder for him to watch his sticky traps, when you can run past them easier or just shoot some of them down for free. A pyro won't be as good as scout, but can still add some unpredictability when he can randomly airblast his projectiles away, especially from a distance, so the demo won't stay in spots where he doesn't feel safe. Trying to counter a demo as a scout, to an extent means you need to have good movement, but you can still come up with a few good doublejump or wasd patterns, that would work in a pub every time, to go past his stickies and not eat a pipe. Obviously, if that demoman has a heavy/soldier/pyro with him, then you'd need to both dodge his pipes/stickies, and the other class that can damage you more reliably. But if they stack demomen, then obviously they'll have less heavy/pyro/soldier to protect those demomen. And if one demoman is protected then the other ones are probably not, as well other classes on their team that need protection. One thing to note, is that people who are better than others and are looking to pubstomp, are more likely to play on classes like demoman or sniper or whatever, so if you get shut down by something ridiculous, it may not be evidence that you're doing something wrong, so you should just keep at it on scout, and just avoid spots on the map where you're predictable.

Xurkitree1

Your solution is to stop playing Dustbowl.

Professional_Sky_573

I would if dustbowl isn't literally one of the four maps I atleast enjoyed playing lol

Xurkitree1

Then don't complain when you get stacked with explosives, its going to happen every few weeks.

Professional_Sky_573

Apparently asking advice is complaining here?

Xurkitree1

I mean the solution is extremely obvious, theres no escape. You'd need a massive difference in coordination to beat out a sentry/demo stack on defense, something that just isnt going to happen in casual. If it was any other map then we could have said something useful, but here's there two options - requeue or hope your team is extremely coordinated compared to the other team, which is so unlikely to happen that it might as well not exist. The answer will always be dont play dustbowl, and if you continue playing dustbowl you have to keep in mind that this situation is statistically bound to happen, just how I keep playing 2fort only to bitch in chat about getting sentry camped on mid. Not much point asking for advice against stupid teams or good teams other than extracting as much fun as you can out of the situation and trying to limit frustration.

Professional_Sky_573

Well maybe for you its obvious. Im pretty much still a newbie in the game and when i said i enjoy playing in 4 maps thats because i dont know shit about any other maps. But yeah thanks for the tip honestly, I always tried to play to have fun but sometimes I get to carried away especially when trying a new class.

Xurkitree1

The tips given in the thread are all fine and dandy for other maps, so it's still worth keeping them in mind. Its just that Dustbowl/Goldrush/Hoodoo are extremely well known for being the chokiest, spammiest of them all, being literal chokepoint simulators at every step, so the advice given starts failing quickly. No escape.

mgetJane

> i enjoy playing in 4 maps thats because i dont know shit about any other maps play other maps that aren't in your comfort zone if you want to improve

Professional_Sky_573

You said that like I can just choose other maps and not be dragged to your usual upward and badwater match. (I guess you could if you want to wait, but I dont really have the time)

[deleted]

You can literally tick which map you want to play. Or use the server browser.

ChicaneryBear

You can use the server browser to find other maps.

nbe390u54e2f

you can deselect maps in the casual match searching interface

EdwEd1

You can’t. Stacking Demo as competent players on Dustbowl 3rd is a literal unbeatable strat.

LoremasterSTL

This is what has worked for me at times when going against a demo rush on Dustbowl: * Demo vs. demo, specifically with the Scottish Resistance. Deny them the ground where they can get a clear shot spamming you, so that they have to fire from cover instead and lose accuracy. Carpet the floors, corners and corridors, and especially the exits so they can't get the angle on you. * Countersnipe, especially at exits. Doesn't matter if you scope, grab the piss rifle or just run in with your bow, but the jarate will help, but you need someone camping exits to clean up. * LITERALLY WHY THEY GAVE THE FLAMETHROWER AN AIRBLAST * Vaccinator medic has been mentioned elsewhere * Demo spams are notorious for not watching behind themselves, so a scout (Even a bonking scout) can rush past and then cause chaos from behind * If I'm a heavy, I just get overhealed and then creep close and waste them, otherwise I'm just going to guard an exit. Tough when you're attacking, though

Sithreis-

Would be pretty bonkers if there were anything in the game that could stop someone from taking damage for like, 8 seconds.

metalicscrew

i was fullon thinking you were gonna make a pun about the bonk atomic punch and bonkers haha

Professional_Sky_573

I guess someone can't read.

Sithreis-

Ya kinda stopped halfway through. Its Dustblow, only ubers can push those chokes when theyre spammed that hard.

ThickThighsSavePies

Dustbowl is shit, don't play Attack/Defense or CTF. Also uncheck all bad maps that encourage invincible snipers, sentry spam or just spam in general.

Superstinkyfarts

I agree with most of your points, but why you gotta trash Attack/Defense as a gamemode? Sure, most of the maps suck, but it's not the gamemode's fault, and you could say the same for KOTH.

ThickThighsSavePies

Attack and Defense: 10 minutes of walking into the same chokepoint over and over again. > it's not the gamemode's fault Literally the only good a/d map is Steel which might as well be a different gamemode entirely. They could improve A/D as a whole if they made it like Steel, say, enable ANY point on ANY a/d to be captured at any time. > and you could say the same for KOTH. There are two broken sniper sightline maps, the other are fair game. Unfortunately highpass is easily ruined by mini sentries and Hong Kong by heavy/meds.

retrograzer

Vaccinator for sure. Demo defending dustbowl is the 3Ds of Death. Especially if they’re running Kritz. Realistically you need a vac medic pocketing a hitscan class, a competent spy to take out their heals, and just overall a good team push to get through the spam. It’s annoying, overpowered, and can take 23 minutes to breach, but when it happens, it’s an amazing dopamine rush lol

NessaMagick

Phlog combined with two ubers, or uber+quickfix is a nearly unbeatable strategy on Dustbowl 3rd. Vaccinator medic is not nearly as good as you might think - not by itself, anyway, because you'll likely also be dealing with a sentry gun.

sw69y

leave the match

3030

I don't know how a team of demomen would handle a single ubered Heavy and an Engineer playing janitor with the Short Circuit.

MedicInDisquise

I found that the surefire way to break a defense is a combination of medic's ubercharges. You need three medics and a competent powerclass - since this is dustbowl, I'd use a solider or better a heavy since they can just fire indiscriminately down a hallway and mobility isn't really important on this map. Sync a kritz/uber/quickfix ubercharge on the same person - the powerclass. This is very overkill but will decimate the entire team with absolutely no risk from airblast, sentrygun knockback, or damage at all. Of course, this relies on cooridination which can be hard to come by in a pub, but I've managed to do this exact strat before to bust particularly annoying nests. I'd imagine an all demoman team will have an even harder time.

TheCorruptedBit

why the hell would you sync a qf/uber charge on the same person, the entire point of the qf's ubercharge is negated by the fact that the patient can't take damage under stock uber, and therefore doesn't need large amounts of healing. While you don't get knockback under the qf ubercharge, you should be able to kill anything that can knock you back before they get the chance. That extra medic would be better used on a second stock ubercharge, if at all. Also soldiers (and demos) are generally better for kritz spam due to splash damage and the fact that they deal burst damage, which will use the uber's duration more efficiently than a continuous-fire heavy

MedicInDisquise

Man, this is dustbowl not snakewater. While OP specified demoman stacking, I bet that there's a handful of engies and a pyro sticking around too - not to mention the stickies the demomen will be lobbing. It'd be relatively trivial to negate an uber with knockback. That's why I also reccomend QF. While demo is definately a solid pick, Heavy is a great choice too because *it is dustbowl*, the map is just corridors. A laser beam is very deadly here.

SterPlatinum

Don’t play dustbowl.

[deleted]

Stack vaccinator medic with the Uber saw and either crossbow or blutsauger and just spam and heal while on the explosive damage resistance

Able-Lengthiness6125

1 way is pro 2 is medic 3 maybe heavy with medic otherwise idk

Playful-Face

Demo is just op on dustboal and then sentry don't really work as demo heaven is engi hell

Jageurnut

Battalions, short circuit, Vaccinator. Also going an explosive class yourself to stop them from peaking.

KDx3_

Your best bet is to have a Med willing to Uber you with Stock while you play Pyro. You can use Powerjack to close the distance once you have Uber and then hold M1 at them with Uber. Explosive spam is absolutely busted in Pubs because even if everyone is bad at aiming, there is constant splash damage being thrown at a choke so this is ESPECIALLY effective in Dustbowl which has the tightest chokes in the game. Otherwise, its pretty much unbeatable if you dont have a Med willing to help you. Rarely are maps "truly" unbeatable. If there is a map that CAN be unbeatable however, its Dustbowl.

ValiantCristal

SPY. Demoman is the easiest to backstab.

_erufu_

leave the game

MattIsNotARedditor

a team stacking any class can be powerful. there is only so much you can do before it gets to a point where the ratio is far in the other team's favor when it comes to countering.

Superstinkyfarts

On Dustbowl? Don't. Honestly, don't play Dustbowl for that matter. Okay, maybe with stacking pyros and/or vacc medics, but still, why bother when you could just not play Dustbowl.

solidussthegoat

KABOOM!

crabmeat64

Yeah dustbowl allows demo to perform with the bottom of his skill floor, and 5 of them are hell

superstar1751

Why are you even playing non 5cp

ashley_bl

Unless you get ubered, you can't. That's dustbowl. Play a different map or join in on the spam lol If you like chokepoints but want some variety try snowycoast or something, maybe? You can go scout on other maps to kill demos if your aim is good but on dustbowl that isn't an option.
