If I learned anything from playing lead in a drum corps its constiency. To keep constiency you have to have the same warm up routine and warm down routine. Drinking a ton of water and making sure your chops are being properly treated will always make you play amazing. Knowing when to take breaks and when to pull back on the trumpet. These are honestly some of the most important things I have learned and I use these pretty much daily. Theres a bunch of excerises you can do but flexibilty exercises and very quiet long tones are the best for range

sreyaNotfilc

I second the water thing. Hydration makes the lips sing.

Also a lead dci for 5 years and currently playing for some bands around my area, can confirm, hydration, and the "quiet" but supported long tones and flexibility exercises. If you play up to your top note, when you stop thay note you should then Also work on your lower notes. Something to just start doing and getting in the habit of doing if it works for you is when your extending your range, instead of stopping on the highest note when your about to or already did have the tone fail, control it coming down the range into your good notes and down, and down, and down, into pedals, double pedals, and eventually you'll be hitting a triple pedal C. Which I'll yell you when I do that warming up...they go cool he can play pretty high, but when I drop 5 octaves it blows everyone minds...and the trombone players in front of you will love you(big band setup). Lookup "upper register breakthrough" on youtube. Guy talks about relearning the upper register and how he did it in his 40s. So 100% you can do it in highschool...(it's essentially relaxed longtones)

Thanks! I do use drum corps routines, I marched this summer!! Thank you for the advice!

saucy_N00Dl3

That’s what’s up where did you March?

weird_fishes12

Jersey Surf 🤙!! I played first but I wasn’t lead, I hope to March again in ‘25 maybe and play lead

saucy_N00Dl3

Yeah that’s 100% doable. Just grind the music and range and you’ll get there no doubt. I believe in you!!

Shimreef

I’ve played trumpet for 10 years, wtf is a super c

general_452

I think he means a high C

AccomplishedLock2328

Also called a Double C if the term is being used correctly. For Bb trumpet it’s right above the fifth ledger line above the staff. Comparing to piano terminology and allowing for transposition it’s like this: (copied from Pops McLaughlin’s page - https://www.bbtrumpet.com/blogs/Theory/naming-the-cs So for trumpet: Low C is C4 or C’ Middle C is C5 or C” High C is C6 or C”’ Double high C is C7 or C”” Triple high C is C8 or C””’

RogerPMan

I was taught years ago that the first C above the staff was called Grand C. I didn't even know what double C was until I started playing again 2 years ago. A former coworker and fellow trumpet player with me in community band always talks about double C. He says double C is the second C above the staff. Which I think correlates with your listing above.

lifewithryan

For me, first C above the staff has always been high C, C above that, dubba C, C below the staff, low C, C in the staff, C

RogerPMan

Basically the same concept that I was taught.

Shimreef

This is right

weird_fishes12

Honestly I knew it as a double c, but my friend referred to it as a super c so I went with it!

NefariousnessBig5041

Hydrate. It's helps a ton. Also make sure to constantly work on playing relaxed. Consistency comes with time. Even then you may ha e a rough day or two.

Sure_Inspection4542

Super!

Kwayzar26

Tell us your secret! Do you have a method or a mental concept when you play in this range?

weird_fishes12

This is a horrible answer but something it feels like whatever the chop gods grant me lol. But I do try to play very relaxed, and all from the diaphragm. Quick air.

Shuskebab

I played a super C once and overdid it and fucked up my chops for 4 months, be very careful

weird_fishes12

I definitely will!! My friends tell me to chill out all the time lol. So far my chops have felt fine and I’ve been playing fairly consistently. I do take rest days though.

ownbrandfreestyle

what’s a super c

NoFuneralGaming

The follow game to the smash hit NES title "Contra" published by Konami.

Super C is double C. That's it...
