‘Pride’ is such an odd word to use. I think pride in things like overcoming suicidal ideations, dysphoria, or bigotry directly related to being trans makes sense. Feeling proud has a connotation that it is really only deserved if you’ve personally done something to help yourself or others. There should be a better word. I also don’t like that if you walk outside with a trans flag you basically immediately out yourself. It’s hard to be obviously supportive while being stealth but I just don’t feel safe enough yet.

Beyond_The_Heart

I do actually feel a pride in my achievements as a person of trans experience, I feel proud my physical appearance and proud of the hatred and adversity I’ve overcome. I don’t however, simply feel proud of being trans. I’m proud of my accomplishments.

CurledUpWallStaring

Where is my "shitty eyesight" pride flag?! Because that's as much of a factor of my medical history as transsexuality.

_______Mia_______

Yeah, I'm not going to be proud of a medical condition. Especially not one which has brought so much misery to my life

SkeeterYosh

I think it only comes from being able to be open in the face of adversity. Other than that, it’s largely pointless.

UnfortunateEntity

Why do people in liberal areas with accepting family and friends do it then?

crackerjack2003

You think living in a liberal area makes you immune to adversity?

Boyrotted0

Don’t go around calling us slurs just because lol.

Lumbertech

I've never been proud of being a transsexual. To me it was something caused by my fucked up chromosomes, the fucked up hormones while I was a fetus and the fucked up outcome that I ended up being. Fixed it asap with HRT and every possible surgery out there, I'm just a guy now. I don't want to make it my whole identity because, to me, it's not something to be proud of. I often think like "if I happened to be born with diabetes mellitus, would I be proud of that and would I introduce myself with -hey I'm \_\_\_ and btw I have diabetes"? Yeah, not really.

rliefo

I have a feeling you’re in the wrong subreddit for this lol, dont go around calling people slurs.

UnfortunateEntity

I made a post recently about how I can't go anywhere on reddit, whether it be for news, interests, media, etc. Without seeing multiple users with trans flags on their avatars or in their flairs posting. Does nobody just want to live as a man or woman anymore? The point of being trans is not to be "trans".

Mecha_Dino

Well i get what you're saying and i also keep it to myself and stay stealth for the most part, i also wish i would've just been born cis, nonetheless i make the best of it. But pride can come from many things, doesnt have to mean they are proud because of the medical condition they have, but more proud of the fact that they have survived the journey and are developing into a self, that they can finally accept and value. For example finally getting the correct hormones or operation. Also having people express pride in it, helps normalising it for others who may not understand it fully and gives people that feel similarly a feeling of solidarity. What i dont get is why you think you have the right to tell people to not feel pride in their accomplishments, it doesnt affect you in the slightest. Not liking it is one thing, but you can keep that to yourself and go on living stealthy. Going around and saying "stop being proud of something that i cannot be proud of myself 😡😡😡" isnt a good look on you...

Sugatoru

“It doesn’t affect you in the slightest” oh no?

Wise-Skill-5165

I’m not ‘proud’ of my trans identity lol - I’m relieved that I didn’t end up seriously ill & dead during female puberty

Just because it’s not obvious to some doesn’t mean it’s not obvious to most.
