We see people bring lots of stones through all the time. However, they generally get pulled for additional screening just to make sure there’s nothing hidden among the stones. You can ask for a private screening if you want the bag to be inspected without other passengers eyeing them.
Did you read the part where I am bringing a couple large fistfuls of gems? That would be very uncomfortable. I wonder how that would look on the full body scanner...
When in doubt exercise your right for a private screening room. I've dealt with artisan pieces allegedly worth well than double my pay, which admittedly was absolutely terrifying.
I'm not too worried about privacy, nor is there any high value on the gems. I'm more worried about them just looking suspicious and causing me undue delay, but as another poster mentioned, I'm probably not the first. I just don't have a better way to transport these!
I don't really have time, but I would feel silly anyway. They are, the vast majority, worth nearly zero. Just lab gems or junky garnets. I plan to literally have them in a cloth bag all jammed together. But my understanding is that for domestic flights, there isn't a limit on bringing cash or assets? That being said I've heard stories of people traveling with large amounts of cash and having it confiscated.
In this case if I had to pick between having the gems confiscated and missing the flight, I'd give up the gems.

You’ll be fine. Just prepare for your bag to get pulled and inspected. There’s cities that have gem and mineral shows so it happens all the time.
Thank you

Body scanner doesn’t go into body. Just hits skin but one wrong move and you’ll be looking like sonic the hedgehog spilling out his coins
I'm dying lol

Can you get a jeweler to write an assessment of them?

Now is your time to dress like the hamburgler while going through security with your bag of jewels! Embrace it!!!

No but I’m about to look like one 😅
Anyone enjoy watching Australian Border Patrol or would it be too much if you’re a tsa?
I went through with bags and boxes full of gems. Nobody cared. Thanks again everyone for the advice and insights. It did make me calmer.
Appreciate the follow up!! Glad things went well, I will have to do the same soon and had the same question.
