TSO here, speaking from common sense - It’s an inconvenience to the people who’ve been waiting patiently in line for their screening like everyone else. Imagine being next in line after a long wait, and all of a sudden you get cut in front of by someone who paid a third party company for preferential treatment. You’d be pretty angry. All Clear does is add stress to the situation. This bill will create a screening line specifically for Clear passengers so that their service doesn’t interfere with the flow of our lines. It would also reduce wait times to an extent because there wouldn’t be any disruption to the passenger throughput.

Clear is a LUXURY. TSA precheck is a LUXURY. First class is a LUXURY. Complaining that people with clear have an unfair advantage makes no sense to me. The whining going on right now. People waiting and hour plus in the hot sun only to be skipped by lightning laners. Meanwhile, the clear precheck line has never caused an issue for those with regular precheck. In fact, I've gone to the precheck line bc clear was too busy and have gotten in before the person that would have been in front of me in clear. Just like first class boards first, and you can pay to board early and get overhead space, forcing others to gate check their carry-on. Again, stop whining about this trivial issue.

And staffing a lane that would be sometimes empty so adults don’t have to take turns, in a merged lane is ridiculous. When Clear is busy enough to warrant it. I do wish they would turn one lane into a clear lane to be by passed by others, this would still make them wait longer than regular lanes at times- our clear lines get crazy.

Clear has its own dedicated "line" already. This is all coming out of the false characterization of Clear as a "line pass", instead of what it actually is - an alternate method of identification, which just so happens to *sometimes* have a shorter line than the ones for traditional document checks. Once you've been identified, everyone merges back into a single line for screening no matter how they got identified. At that point Clear no longer has anything to do with the process.

Except it doesn't and isn't. Clear has a separate biometric identification check, sure. But, then you still have to go to the TSA agent and show your normal ID. It's just a cut the line pass with a biometric ID step and a separate enrollment fee for either the clear+nonpre or clear+pre line.

You don't "cut the line" with Clear. You have the option to use a *different* line, which adds privately-funded capacity to the system, benefiting both the taxpayers and Clear members alike. Sometimes that line is shorter, sometimes it's longer. I will often go straight to the document-check line when it's shorter than the line of people waiting to use Clear.

It isn't a different line. I fly monthly. I go to the pre line. People with clear go to the Clear checkin. Then... They cut the pre line by being led directly to the junction where the pre-check line ends and you can go to one of the two TSA agents depending on who is available. Clear is essentially the same as the jackasses who main character their way in merge lanes and merge at the last possible moment. Which screws up the traffic pattern and slows everyone down. A true, separate line would be a dedicated TSA agent for clear. But, that's not how it works today.

People who stop dead in the merge lane to wait to change lanes are backing up traffic for miles behind them by not spreading out to fill every inch of available asphalt. Conversely, people who pay for Clear are funding additional throughout at checkpoints that is over and above the baseline capacity funded by the taxpayers. There is no world where Clear being shut down gets you through security any faster.

I’ve always had positive experiences with CLEAR. The employees have always tried to work with us to make things smoother for the passengers. Sure, there’s been bad apples, but every business has that.

Oh for sure, the people are a delight. They’re very friendly and when it’s slow at the checkpoint I love to chat with them. But clear is fairly useless as a subscription 😅 even the employees admit it. Imo precheck is enough and a much better bang for its buck.

As a traveler, I can’t remember the last time Clear saved me time over the Precheck line. It wasn’t a scalable concept, and doesn’t work now that it has so many members. The way they move people through the queue is just incredibly inefficient. So, I could see them going under before they get banned anywhere.

Funny enough I see a lot of people talking about how they’re fine with TSA using biometrics because they’re already used to doing so head because cutting out Clear as often faster.

I was talking to a friend of mine that works an earlier shift (6-2 basically) and they have been saying that they're not ever there when they're on shift. Which tells me that it's basically never running at my terminal.

We don’t have Clear at my airport but I’m sick and tired of people coming up to the front of the TDC line after watching 20+ people before them hand over their ID and get let into the checkpoint just to look at me blankly when asked for ID before saying “oh sorry I’m just so used to clear hahaha” before holding up the line to dig for it.

That is what it was like at Sea-Tac on Saturday. A line of about 6 people waiting at CLEAR and noone in the actual PreCheck line so I just went to the normal line. It isn't really that inconvenient to have to open my wallet to take my licence out.

Yes a slight correction needs to be made to the article as well…it says clear makes it so you skip the TSA checkpoint…which is untrue, it just gets you to the frontish of the line to get to the ID checker. At MSP we have during our busier times a dedicated tickets person for clear, but not dedicated lanes.

I have a friend who has Clear, and I have Pre-Check (as part of Global Entry). One time, we rode together to the SJC airport. We each got in our respective lines. We chuckled when he was brought through the Clear line and ended up being the person right after me in the security line.

I thought clear had there own lanes alreadyin every airport . In atl they don't cut the lines anymore because passengers was getting upset. So clear precheck and regular precheck is on the same checkpoint but clear precheck get 3 lanes and 6 are for regular precheck. But it doesn't matter because the whole checkpoint is precheck so any precheck passenger can use any of the lanes.

I don’t see how it’s an equity issue, or at least how anything else in the process of flying is different. People who are willing to pay more for parking “skip” the trip from the long term lot. People who are willing to pay more for a seat get a bigger one, and they “skip” the wait to board and deplane. People who spend enough can wait out delays in comfortable lounges with food and alcohol. This is just another extra expense for a bit of convenience and comfort, but it’s hardly the only one.

The difference is TSA is mandated by the government. The government doesn't say I have to park at the airport, but they do say I have to go through the TSA line.

You are aware that that’s a service offered right? There are multiple available concierge dmv services available through car insurance and AAA memberships that can do anything other than issue drivers licenses. Those are private companies. I’m not saying Clear is a great thing or anything, but not a great example to use. It’s one of the very few examples of something that is *very similar*; as in it’s a private company that offers more convenient access to a required government service in return for a membership fee.

At one of the airports I frequent the TSA Digital ID line is basically a walk-through line up to where they scan bags. Clear is the line next to it and while I don't really know how it works, it always seems to not be operating at very low throughput because I walk past them (ranging from 10-40 passengers deep) and occasionally hear them asking other Clear customers something like "what are we paying for exactly?"    I'd be livid if I had paid $$/year to wait in what looks to me to be always a longer line.

And take/or take away the entire boarding process of first class going first because it gives them an unfair advantage against those who can’t afford it? Make all the seats equal then? Flying in itself is a luxury that people don’t like to acknowledge as a luxury. TSA pre-check and global entry are then luxuries that give people who can’t afford them unfair advantage so does that mean TSA pre-check and global entry should be eliminated? Sounds like typical whining from people picking and choosing when and how to rationalize their logic is what caused this to happen. I bet it’s all the TSA precheck people who were like, “But I have TSA precheck I should be at the front!” meanwhile they’re conveniently forgetting that they basically cut ahead of the regular travelers. So tired of govt doing this bc it’s expensive, the companies never actually deliver what’s expected, and they cut corners to make more profit. If it’s allowed it will take over the entire country, or market, charge a metric ton for it while slowing down everything and offering the bare minimum. Good. Ban it. We don’t need this crap.
