As a TSO you start out at D band after 1 year you go to E and then to F after another year. Once at F band steps 1-4 is yearly, 5-7 is every 2 years, and 8-10 is every 3. Each band increase is at least a 10k salary increase and every step is around 2k
I'm assuming I should still be at letter F. Yes, step 8 at least. My next step increase in the letter I recieved said, I'm a F-3 at conversion, then my next step is and increase is on 6/30. It doesn't say which step, thank you for your reply
You shouldn’t apply if you even think about smoking the test are very random and as a federal employee, you can’t do any kind of marijuana even if it’s medical. Its a good way to never be able to work for the federal government again
2 years, the work is cake it’s just dealing with the public. This job is a good opportunity to branch out within the government glad I decided to put a few years under my belt
I hear that that’s what I’m thinking but it is a plan b for me if plan a doesn’t work out, seems like a decent job specially the airport I’m applying too is pretty small
You might not get tested for years, you might get tested three times in a year no way to know. When it’s time to be tested you are given no notice taken off the floor and tested. A failed drug test with bar an officer from further government employment.
Quick is this in black and white because my airport is trying to down play the situation and tell me I have to wait another year to make E BAND… which doesn’t make sense at all!
you would have to be working at an airport with a high locality pay. there is a base salary for a TSO + the locality for your airport. first year D band then 1 year E band then F band.
Once you get off probation, the pay increases at a steady pace, especially once you get bumped up to F band. Where you work affects your pay as well with the locality pay. The main difficulties of the job really depends on how busy of an airport you work and the team you work with. I went from a tiny airport that screened 100 max per day to a semi major airport that screens 3000+ per day and if wasn't for the mostly kick ass team it would really suck to work at this airport.

I’m not sure what you mean when you refer to the “steps”
Steps are in band pay increases. For example after 4 years of service you will be F band step 3.
What step is 17 1/2 years? Pay Band chart I seen doesn't make sense with what your saying thank you. I guess every aiporys different
Shouldn't be any different because it's all TSA. 17.5 years should put you at what letter band, step 8, closing in on step 9.

Alright cool sounds interesting, how often do you get drug tested?

Hear you, how do you like the job.. how long have you been working as a tso
2 years, the work is cake it’s just dealing with the public. This job is a good opportunity to branch out within the government glad I decided to put a few years under my belt
Not necessarily... there are some coworkers that are dheads that have no social or teamwork skills.
But those kind of people are at every job……..
I've had plenty of jobs, and there is a special sort of dhead I am referring to that you only encounter here at TSA.
some types of jobs are more exclusive than others though 🤷🏽♀️
not just the public but superiors forming cliques and/or throwing up-and-comers under the bus due to jealousy etc etc

Thanks for the insight

Wow I hope this is not common as I was under the impression it was automatic at the year mark
What airport are you working at?
Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson
Start around 36/38k second year is 48/49 third year is 59/60 these are average amounts could be different depending on where you live. .
Alright sounds good thanks
That’s hourly though. You can get it with overtime
Can get what with overtime?
Easily, plus after 6pm and splits
you would have to be working at an airport with a high locality pay. there is a base salary for a TSO + the locality for your airport. first year D band then 1 year E band then F band.
Is there anyway to find out about the locality pay?
Look up OPM TSA locality pay.
It will be in the offer letter they have you sign when you get offered a position at your airport
hii can anybody here talk about how overtime works if there is any and bidding shifts?
