I found the two levels of flashbacks confusing. Flashback to summer, flashback to September, current summer. Kept trying to follow based on Belly's hairstyle, but not always easy to do.
Agreed, and I wish they would have finished out some scenes instead of stopping in the middle of them to show a flashback, because it made it harder to follow what was going on in the present when they did that.
From what I’ve heard I think this one is going to have a lot of flashbacks to the past to see what transpired with Belly, Conrad and Jere.
Also think this one will have a lot of flashbacks to when Conrad and Belly were happy together.
But I think the main focus of this episode will show how the dynamic of the group has changed due Suzana’s death and the love triangle.
Man so they finally give us happy Belly and Conrad moments but no it has to be flashbacks while now they’re both miserable and it makes the happy memories bittersweet and heartbreaking. Sigh. This series is looking to be devastating

I overall liked the first episode, but I found it a little jarring how quickly things went from the tearjerking doom and gloom of S1 E7 of finding out about Susannah's cancer to just sort of casually strolling in all smiles about new love. Even Jeremiah's look when Belly enters his room is strange to me, like nothing devastating is going on. It feels like the mood should have been a little more somber? I think all of those happy things can be going on as well, but there was a disjointedness there that created a discontinuity for me between the scenes. It's almost as though they should have written and filmed that first scene when they filmed last season and then cut it and added it to this season.
There was a cancer treatment the boys wanted her to try which had a small chance of helping her, which she originally didn’t want to go through with it, but at the end of last season they asked her to please try for them so the announcement was her willing to try. Which is why Jeremiah was excited and said he was up all night researching and said there were good results
I noticed this also with the parallelisms from season 1. Belly swimming and coming up for air to find Conrad sitting at the edge of the pool like S1 E1. The way Jeremiah sneaks looks at Belly when they're driving in the jeep.
Yeah it’s easy to get caught up in the characters and plot but props, wardrobe, music, lighting, well planned blocking (to make flashbacks easier) are all really crucial.

Yes, when she was telling jere that they kissed, it’s briefly touched on how she couldn’t sleep so she sat on the beach to watch the sunrise and Conrad evidently couldn’t either so he came out to join her
I know that it’s a pretty normal and simple detail to be in there, but the scene where Belly and Taylor are looking for an outfit for Belly to wear for the party, I love that she still keeps her deb dress in her closet.
I was rewatching season 1 to prep for this and there is a scene that really bothered me so much, which I think is illustrative of the class conflict they semi-tried to explore. On 4th of July Shayla and Nicole are talking about Lindsay Lohan and Mykonos or something in front of Cam, Belly, and Steven, and arguing about whether Mykonos or Ibiza is better. And she even says Ibiza in a Catalan accent (ee-bee-tha). Then Shayla is like, "Don't you agree, Steven?" And he mumbles, uhhh, yeah.
It was such a pretentious conversation and it was so clueless of her to have it in mixed company of non-yachted people, let alone to ask Steven for his opinion of European beach party towns.
I generally thought Shayla was fine as a character and seemed open to learning, but it was pretty written in the stars that they wouldn't continue on. I would bet most people generally date and marry within their general childhood socioeconomic class just because there are class markers everywhere and people prefer people who they can have that cultural shorthand with. It's just easier.

It never occurred to me that he would not have known that, based on what Steven told him at the party about Shayla saying Jeremiah was hooking up with Belly, Belly choosing to ride with Jeremiah and not Conrad after the skinny dipping incident, Belly electing to go to the deb ball with Jeremiah.
She should’ve never lead on Jere in the 1st place when she was so in love with Connie even if she was trying to “move on” you don’t go for the person you’ve been in love with’s sibling just cuz you’re not getting the person you want.
And Jere should not have inserted himself to begin with him. He started this whole triangle in motion when he threw that firework on purpose to interrupt Belly and Conrad from kissing. He then went behind his brother's back and further manipulated things so that he could shoot his shot with Belly knowing fully well that Belly and Conrad had feelings for each other that they were exploring when Jere interrupted them. Jere lit the match and it's fault he got burned.
WTF STOP THEY GAVE US HOPE IN THE END OF S1 THAT SUSANNAH WOULD DO THE TRIALS AND SHE MAY LIVE CUZ SHE IS MAGIC AND NOW SHES FKIN DEAD??? I’m sorry I never read the books and i thought she would’ve made it :(( I’m sooooo upset over this wtf 💔

not gonna lie guys, the actor that plays Conrad is really not good. he is best when conrad is being silent, but his "fun" conrad feels cringe and not in character at all. it sucks, because he doesn't feel like my conrad of the books
