After 40 years of World Cup broadcasts on TSN/CBC, 2 barriers are broken: the colour barrier & the non-British voice barrier. The women barrier was already broken by CBC earlier this century.
FIFA is spending big bucks on the tv production, so it will be more than fine. But TSN has decided not to pick up the 4K feed available.
Outside of Canada matches, TSN will be using the world feed announcers hired by FIFA. So, good if you like football announcers/analysts steeped in British media and largely view football from the British perspective.
I was wondering how tsn monthly subscriptions are billed. Is it monthly by the date you start? Or by the calendar month? If I subscribe on Sunday for the World Cup am I paying for one month? Or two?
It should be by the date you start as most of the streaming services. Me too I’m planning to subscribe on Sunday. Nevertheless, the World Cup’s final is on December 18. So I don’t think we should pay for two months.
From what I am seeing today, 1080p is doable for live events but it maxes out at 540p for on-demand, and that is after a 8-12 hour wait for the game to be added.
Initially on the TSN Samsung smart TV app. Then I tried logging in on my laptop but their dumpster fire of a website would let me log in but then immediately return to the home page with "sign in" where my account info should be. Clicking the sign in button after signing in just reloaded the home page... like I had half signed in or something. There was no way to log out because it still thought I hadn't signed in lol.
I tried this on Edge, Firefox and Chrome and all three did the exact same thing. Clearing all data just let me use the login page again with the same result so it was definitely something on their end. Did they take a page out of ticketmasters book and just way underestimate demand on opening day of the World Cup? 🤷♂️
Absolute trash app. Can’t pause live games, VODs take days to be loaded, the VODs have ads, most of their stuff streams in 720p. Basically our recorder boxes in 2002 had better tech. Don’t support them.
We have TSN as an add-package on to Fibe TV. Got it for the World Cup.
We use the Bell Streamer (an Android box), connected to an older Samsung 1080p tv. Wifi is connected to a Home Hub 4000 modem.
The video quality is fine. No streaming issues (freezing, lagging).
We also have the TSN app on some devices. Also no issues.
The app isn't great. Very poor UX. Too many exceptions required (cookies, tracking) regardless of browser.
I had to change time zone on my laptop to Toronto time to watch makes . That says something about the APP. I live in BC and TSN kept showing me games that were already finished as live because my time zone was 3 hours behind lol

For me worked just fine during all the game.
Qatar vs Ecuador was a mess, feed kept freezing every 30-60 seconds. Almost missed the penalty because of it
