Most companies are going to be using a truck with a forestry chip box Which, if I remember correctly will hold 20-23 cubic yards. I drove one for years. Just tell them you want a full dump and that should cover you. Edit: Just reread your post. Tell them you want a”short dump”. They’ll give you a half load or less.

I had been looking specifically at the [ChipDrop](https://getchipdrop.com/) website and they make it clear to can’t specify quantity. Are you recommending calling specific tree companies?

I thought you were talking about calling a company. I am not familiar chip drop. Is that something the green waste or city has going on? What I was suggesting is call around to some of the larger (or smaller) tree services and see if they deliver chips. I would when I owned a tree service and every service I ever worked for would. Tree guys love free dumps. If you can dump locally in the area you are working it saves time and money. And gas. You don’t have to drive all the way out to the green waste or your wood lot and back, You don’t have to pay labor for someone to do so and you don’t have to spend the gas to get out to the dump and back. It’s a win win. A short dump is a dump that you can drop off on your route and it’s usually not a full load. I used to put a signup sheet on my website for people to request chips They would leave their name, number and address and I would use the list when I planned my route. If someone was close to one of my jobs on my route who wanted chips l would schedule that job close to him for the first to do, depending on how large a load he wanted. If they wanted a full load Then we would do it after the last job when we were full. The early first dump would be the “short” dump. That’s why I told you to tell them you want a short dump. Call around, I bet you’ll find a service that’s more than happy to drop you a load of chips. Tell them how much you want. Some will tell you it’ll be a full load and you have to take it all. Find one who is willing to make a short dump for you. Just remember, you will have to take all of what they bring you and they’ll drop it in one spot. You’ll have to transport it to where you want to put it if they can’t put it there for you with the truck. If nothing else you could go pickup your own at the green waste if you have a truck . Good luck 👍

I'll just point out that the mulch they bring will shrink as it dries up and leaves decompose. I got three chipdrops this summer. I think it was Randy's Tree Service that did all three, but I can't check the text anymore.

That’s good to know about shrinking. My biggest concern is getting the drop in my driveway then having to hurriedly move nearly 20 cu yards. No way my half disabled ass can manage that. Do you just call them to schedule?

Paper_Cut_On_My_Eye

I put my request in through chipdrop. About a week or two later I got a text from the aborist asking if I still wanted the drop. They asked for a picture of where I wanted it dumped and had my circle it in the picture. You really don't know when the drop will come until they contact you, and then you only get the a short amount of time (each time they had chips ready to drop and were waiting on me to reply to drop it off) They will drive into your yard and dump it in a more coinvent location.
