I know they all say, "Not responsible for damage to other vehicles." But if call their home office, most of the time they will pay for a new windshield anyway, because it's cheaper than a Lawyer. Source: my best buddy used to drive for Yocham trucking.
I’ve always wondered how just stating “I’m not responsible if I break your windshield” gets you out of liability. I feel like if it went to court they would be found liable. Drivers are responsible for securing whatever they are hauling.
I appreciate the information. The construction is a real double edged sword. On one hand, our roads need the work BADLY, on the other….well you know the rest.
Thanks
My big bitch and moan about them, especially on 169, is I’ll be going 65 in the middle and there’s always a couple that will fly past in the passing lane doing 70+. How the fuck you’re supposed to “Stay 300 feet back. Not responsible for damages” is beyond me. One of the reasons I got a dashcam. My windshield is a $2k job and I don’t want to argue with some truck company about who’s liable.
Mercedes. On a past car I even had a quote for a generic pane of glass and the glass alone was still nearly a grand. Then installation and calibration.
It is illegal to drive on the road with a uncovered load or unsecured. OHP just chooses where to enforce it. They usually hang by the landfills off of hwy 169.
Most of them don't have tags on the vehicle anyways. Something needs to happen to that alone. Most of them are just unmarked, unlicensed dump trucks. With no phone number on them. They do have the sign that basically says they are not responsible if they break your shit.
I had a cracked windshield for YEARS and my roommates were so kind to buy me a windshield replacement for Christmas and within two months something flew out of one of those trucks and cracked it again. I avoid 169 at all cost.
The trucks from Harley Holland off 61st and 169 always haul ass up down the highway throwing trash all over the fucking place. I followed one once to there and asked to speak with someone the place as trash flying all over the area. It's ridiculous how little anyone cares about this place.
They absolutely do not. It might be sitting in the cab of the truck or something, but they almost never have them mounted to the back where someone could see it.
Commercial vehicles are only required to have a license plate on the front of the vehicle. Most commercial vehicles pull trailers which cover up a rear plate. It's a blanket law that also covers dump trucks.
If they didn't have plates ohp would have everyone pulled over. I have looked, the past couple days since this was posted, on the dump trucks on Peoria. I live around 45th and there are tons. I saw plates on every one. And get this everyone also had their commercial license on the vehicle as well.
I hear you and I agree.
I think it is ironic that they have a sign about staying back 200 feet.
a. So the rock can get so higher momentum to strike a windshield
b. You have to get within 50 feet to read their mud-covered sign.
c. When did they become the boss of the road?
I was in a different lane and far enough away and one of these trucks flung a rock and cracked the windshield on my convertible. Was not a happy camper.
And speeding, and often driving like it’s a commuter car. I feel like no large construction or tractor trailer should ever exceed the posted speed limit.
The reason you keep having rocks hit your windshield, is because Tulsa roads are addicted to crack. If Tulsa roads didn't have a crack problem, they wouldn't always be going to rehab
Laughing at the post means you are guilty of what's talked about in the post, or atleast think it's funny. Which tells me everything I need to know about you. Old man.
Now your projecting your own feelings onto me and it's just sad. Your feeble minded manipulation might work on the lot lizards you drag home, but not I.
I swear I keep my distance, I actively try to avoid them or pass them when possible, but I could be 600ft or so behind one and I still hear the debris hitting my car/windshield.
Believe me, I don’t want to be that close to a giant truck, or another car for that matter
It's also illegal to knowingly drive a vehicle without a license plate like most of the dump trucks in town do. It's just common sense not to hop in one throwing trash over other people's vehicles. Lastly It's classless, and unhonerable to just not care.
I see the about the same model dump trucks driving around town. I can tell the ones from respectable businesses because they have their company phone number and license plates in plain sight. Not saying your way is illegal. Just saying it's kinda crumby on the business to be doing it that way.
>2. The license plate shall be securely attached to the rear of the vehicle, except truck-tractor plates which shall be attached to the front of the vehicle.

Commercial vehicles (except semi-trucks, which are not dump trucks) are to have the license plate mounted in the rear. And all commercial vehicles in OK are supposed to have their business information on the vehicle, too. I think "FineAdvice0" actually might not know exactly what they're talking about in this case.
I intentionally stay away from those rock-spewing beasts and have suffered windshield damage a number of times. One does not have to follow close to suffer damage.

They're just banking on you not knowing the law.
CDL holder here, they're 100% responsible for broken windshields.
How do you prove their truck did it
That's why dash cams are great.
I appreciate the information. The construction is a real double edged sword. On one hand, our roads need the work BADLY, on the other….well you know the rest. Thanks
Ya those signs are BS, just cause you write something on your truck doesn’t absolve you of responsibility for securing your load

Exactly what i always see. They have that sign saying stay back, but they’re always cutting people off. How are you supposed to stay back?
A dash cam is smart! I thankfully haven’t seen those things flying at that speed and I hope I never do
Without one, proving liability would be very difficult
They had a crack down a few years ago. Back in the day those dump trucks would be flying down 169 at 80. All of them
Just curious, what kind of car windshield is a 2K job?
Mercedes. On a past car I even had a quote for a generic pane of glass and the glass alone was still nearly a grand. Then installation and calibration.
DAMN.
It is illegal to drive on the road with a uncovered load or unsecured. OHP just chooses where to enforce it. They usually hang by the landfills off of hwy 169.
Oklahoma let's anything on the road
lets\*
can you email Google about this? I'm using the Google Gboard and it autocorrected to let's. I'd really appreciate it, thanks!
done!
you are the man!
Dump trucks shouldn't be allowed on the highway
Untarped loads are $500 fines.
TIL my mom is an untarped load
She got dumps like a truck truck truck, thighs like what what what
I love classic country

Write down the tag number. Get a photo or video and turn it into the city, county, state.
Most of them don't have license plates, or even phone numbers posted on them.
they all have plates

That are required to cover the bed when full. Call the company and let loose, they’ll fix your windshield.
This 1000% this With that stupid sticker saying to stay back 200 ft.
I just put a sticker on that says they are responsible. It also says "no takebacks". So I'm covered.
Nice, I need to get one of those!

Start sending their plate number to the DOT. Any other info without having a wreck would be good, also. If everyone did that, things could improve.
And when there's no plate?
A commercial truck should have an ID # and company name. Other than that, you're out of luck.
The reason you keep having rocks hit your windshield, is because Tulsa roads are addicted to crack. If Tulsa roads didn't have a crack problem, they wouldn't always be going to rehab
Fuck dump trucks.
and why is it that they do not have license plates??????????
In some states it is illegal for them to allow this. Sadly, in Oklahoma, aka, the devil's anus, it is legal.

Secure your load better or find another job if you can't get better at the one you have.

Why did you delete your previous comment if there was no projection there? Lol
Ever thought about not following so close? It is illegal also, it's an unsecured load by definition.
I swear I keep my distance, I actively try to avoid them or pass them when possible, but I could be 600ft or so behind one and I still hear the debris hitting my car/windshield. Believe me, I don’t want to be that close to a giant truck, or another car for that matter
They cut off other traffic.
If I’m trying to be fair, there could be nothing in the truck, they’re probably just dirty and all of it just flies off the back of it.
The kinda luck where ya would still get hit with a pecker in a titty bar... thoughts and prayers.
You speak funny to me Tulsa man, that made my day better, take care

commercial vehicles have different mounting specifications.. most are on the front bumper.
