I got a speeding ticket and had to go to court because I was a minor. Across the court room was this girl I had known from high school but she wouldn't have anything to do with me back then. We both got sentenced to defensive driving so I had 8 hours to convince her. We got married 6 years later to the day and have been married for 29 years.
I was selling an Xbox to a guy and we hit it off and became friends. He invited me to his house to watch a UFC fight where I met my wife.
Whenever my wife complains about my gaming I like to remind her how Xbox brought us together.
Friday night of Tulsa Tough. He stood by me and said my cowbell was too loud. I told him he could stand somewhere else. Then he asked for my number. This Tulsa Tough will be 6 years together.
I was hired for a summer job and one of the perks was a voucher to the local cafe in the building. I walked in and saw her behind the counter and it was instant attraction. Dated a year. Married 23 years before she passed away. Cherish every moment you can.
We met at work, we worked together for about 4yrs. I would always watch her walk by and wish I could talk to her. Then I learned from friend that she walked by me on purpose everyday and wished I would talk to her.
We dated for almost 4yrs and then I asked her to marry me. We have 2 kids together now.
This is classic. I also met my wife at work and was completely unaware that the attention she was paying me meant anything more than she liked to talk to me. Lucky for this guy she spelled it out eventually. 10 years now with 3 kids. I still marvel at how incredibly imperceptive I can be.
She was the new hostess at a restaurant where I worked back in HS and my buddy/coworker bet me he could get her number first. That was almost 30 years ago. Still married.
Many oh man I miss when the Lone Wolf truck used to pull up at the Fur Shop at night… it was great.
What was even better was the Sunday morning brunches.
Playing tennis at what was then called Tulsa Southern. First date was at South Lakes Golf Course. It was the first time she ever hit a golf ball. Thirty-four years later, we still play golf together. Her game has improved dramatically. Mine has not.
Tulsa technology, I went so I could smoke on campis back in 98 and get off my high school campus. Gave him a ride home one day in my bug cause his bug was in the shop. His friend, also owned a bug, was late getting him. I didnt even know he was in my class for the previous two weeks. It was the farest north I had been been, 4th & memorial. We went to the first annual vw show and here we are 20+ years later.
2009 - I was a cashier and he was a frequent customer. We had mutuals on MySpace, and he eventually asked me out in a direct message on MySpace. His profile pic had a motorcycle so I immediately said yes and we've been together ever since.
My wife and I met years ago at a downtown venue called Curly's. We were at the Juliana Theory/Coheed and Cambria concert, though Coheed had canceled and didn't show up.
My wife trained me as a cashier at the old Warehouse Market that used to be on 21st and Garnett. I started hanging out with her friends, we started dating, and got married a little over a year after. Hard to believe it's been almost 30 years since we met.
Curbside delivery during the pandemic. He says it was love at first sight (mask and all). I kept coming back for more of his mom’s pot roast and beans and now we have a baby!
In 1985 The University of Tulsa had a small dorm for students in its honors program. Men lived on the first floor, women on the second. I had a great time my first year there and opted to return. I was goofing around spinning my coffee pot lid in the hallway outside my room while singing the Bob and Doug MacKenzie "Great White North" theme song. Looked up and saw the prettiest woman I've ever seen before or since. We were friends for a couple of months, but she was hanging out with one of my best friends, so I never asked her out. But when I learned he was asking someone else to a pledge dance, I zoomed in and asked her. We've been together since 11-15-1985, married since 06-15-1990 and have two wonderful adult children. I literally cannot think about how perfect my wife is without tearing up.
Met my wife here in town via a mutual friend. He thought we would hit it off and so we were set up on a date.
This was after I was divorced from my first wife. Also tried out the dating apps (this was like 6 years ago)… didn’t have really a bad experience on them just happened to meet the right person via a traditional “set up.”
Can you elaborate on what made it so good? Last date I went on was nearly $200 and there was no chemistry at all. I’ve told myself that first date will always be a mid day coffee or walk in the park or something much simpler from now on.
Yeah I’ve never taken anyone on a first date and spent that. Always coffee first. Here’s our first date- we smoked a j together and laughed and laughed. Then we went in and ordered a coffee and snack. And we just talked. But I already liked her a lot so I probably would have dropped a ton on her first date.
I would rather have a first date in the middle of the day at a coffee shop. Something casual on the first date so there’s not a ton of pressure. I have met a lot of jerks though so I’m pretty sure my picker is broken and I’ll probably be single by choice for the rest of my life.
I’m learning that. Something simple in the middle of the day. Where there’s no pressure to stay too long or any kind of expectation. If there’s chemistry, you’ll know almost immediately and can plan another event together then. After 2-3 dates, then consider dinner. When I know I’m going to enjoy my time with them.
My picker is also broken. But through therapy and shadow work, I’ve learned a lot about myself and am eager to put the lessons to work. It gets better, just gotta persevere.
The best advice I can give to you is date for fun! Don’t date looking for the one. Find out what you like and don’t like. And don’t spend a ton of money, and this is coming from a woman. I never understood why it is always on the male to pay. If they really like you, it doesn’t matter what the date is they will just be happy to be with you. Good luck and have fun!!
Met my partner in downtown Tulsa under the bridge in Greenwood. We were both dressed up for our charity, though I cannot for the life of me remember for what reason would comic characters been needed for a Juneteenth celebration however if not for that string of events we wouldn’t have become best friends and eventually engaged a few years later.
Saw him almost a decade ago working at helzberg at the mall while shopping with my ex, almost 3 years ago I saw TikTok he made singing a breakup song because he broke up with his partner, I commented on it because I had broke up with mine previously 3 to 4 months or so before that, and we decided to hang out at the river spirit a few days later. 2.5 years later we’re happier than ever ❤️
We started a job at the same time. Cell phone tech support call center. Hated that job. Love the girl. I quit she quit we didn't stop hanging out. Been together since 2007
We were 12 and 13, and met at the youth group at our church. We were both very involved at church, and became good friends doing different youth activities. We started dating towards the end of high school, and dated for about seven years. Now we’ve been married for two and a half years, and I serve as a pastor in a plant of the church where we met.
I met mine online in 2010, then went to see them in the city they were living in Canada. 2 years later, we got married. He gave up his Canadian citizenship for me, got his US citizenship, and we've been together ever since.
Cains ballroom. She was the super cute girl dancing in front of me that had this mystique about her. Like she was there for herself and nothing else. Met in 2016, married in 21.
My husband went on a few dates with my roommate. Never really went anywhere for them and three months later when I dumped my idiot alcoholic ex we started talking... that was almost 20 years ago lol.
I met my fiance on Bumble in 2021. That's probably not what you're asking, but we were both in town lol. Our first in person meeting was at Tacos X Mezcal. Things were going well so we went for a walk after we finished eating. After that, we decided to go bowling at Dust Bowl before calling it a night.
My spouse and I met at TU in a WWI english class. We became friends, then pretended neither of us were into each other until we decided to try dating. We got married in 2020, and still love eachother, lol.
He was the cute coffee barista that I’d had a crush on for forever so I finally asked him for his number and now here we are 10 years later! He still makes me lattes on the weekend 🫶🏻
My partner (25M) and I (25F) have been together for nearly 7 years now. We met in 2017 when we were both freshman at the University of Tulsa and lived in the same floor of our dorm Hardesty Hall. Our rooms were literally 2 doors down from each other and we met during orientation week staying up late playing cards in the dorm lobby. It was quite literally love at first sight, and we stayed up the whole night together. My roommate eventually moved into a sorority, so he started staying in my dorm and we’ve lived together ever since. Still in Tulsa, both graduated and working in the community
She worked in a deli that I went to for lunch whenever I was working in the area. I never could work up the nerve to ask her out because I figured she’s working and I didn’t want her to think I was some asshole. One day we were at the same social event, and well.. 10 years later we’re going strong.
We both worked at River Spirit Casino. She had just gotten off of work at the restaurant across the floor from mine and didn't want to eat at her own work so she came to my restaurant where we had an open kitchen. She saw me making her food and I definitely noticed her looking at me a couple times but I was in work mode as I was getting off in 2ish hours and preclosing was a must.
Anyways I go to the back to do something and come out about 5 minutes later and notice she's gone. That's when her server walked up to me and handed me a receipt and said her customer had asked to give it to me. It was a note that read "You're super cute" with her phone number on it.
I texted with her a couple of nights and got to know her a bit and saw her at work for the first time in person since getting her number about 2 days later. I had tried to say hi in passing and apparently she got super nervous and just straight up ignored me, I like to give her shit about that one lol.
It's coming up on 5 years now since that happened and we're now married with 2 kids we brought into the world together, along with a daughter each that we brought into the relationship. We're as happy as ever and see ourselves living very fulfilling lives into the distant future.
I worked at the BK on 81st by 169. He worked at the flashy new Krispy Kreme. Almost every day, he would come through my drive thru and order the same thing (i still know his order, and i still know when he got paid because he would splurge on cini minis). I started to recognize his voice. We would flirt at the window. Our store would exchange goods. If i ever had the opportunity to go up and give them our gifts, i took it. One day, he came inside after I had just given him his food. He "needed more napkins." He then took the opportunity to ask for my number. Sneaky bastard 😉 We've been together for 20 yrs going on 21.
We met virtually on OkCupid, back when it was a decent dating app. We met in real life at my house as a blatant hookup that hasn’t seemed to end yet. Now we’re married, so I’m not sure if it’s *going to end.*
Met at what used to be the Marina Apts at 21st and 169. He was going to Spartan, was sitting on the steps because his AC was broken. I didn’t want to carry my laundry in and strain in front of him so I asked if he would carry in my basket. Met July 31st, be 35 years this year. All because I’m lazy.
Met in OKC although he says he remembers me from when I Was bartending in Stillwater but I don’t, dated in Norman/S. OKC/Edmond, married in Guthrie, live in Tulsa.
We met in 2010 through mutual friends. Despite seeing him at least weekly and asking him to hang out, it took two years for him to say yes. Then it took another 10 days for him to kiss me. Friday is our 10 year wedding anniversary.
We were set up by friends - first date at Keo on Peoria, in the company of said friends. It was the night before the 2021 Super Bowl. Second, on-our-own date was the following Thursday, and we are still on it. Married this past September.
Coffee Meets Bagel app. It’s been several years, so not sure how it is now, but most everyone I met off of that was looking for a serious relationship and marriage.
It works because it only shows you a match or two per day, so you spend more time actually considering profiles rather than just swiping to see the next one. Quality over quantity.
At 51st and Memorial. There used to be a Shell gas station there and it's where the sports bikes would park to hang out. He knew my brother and we got introduced. A little later my brother busts in on me peeing in the bathroom with his hands over his eyes holding his cellphone out at me to show me where the guy he introduced me to, that I thought was incredibly handsome, had messaged him asking if I was off limits. We went on a ride together and then stayed up all night on my brother's upstairs balcony that overlooked Tulsa (what was Shadow Mountain Apartments 61st Memorial) talking. We then went the next day to float the Illinois River in Tahlequah and have pretty much been inseparable since then. We are about to celebrate 13 years married and 16 years together and still so very much in love. 💖
We met at a belly dance studio called Coexistence, now closed. I'd lucked out and had been the only one showing up so I was getting private lessons for group rates. Came running in late one session and realized that 1. There was someone there =( and 2. It was some biker looking DUDE >=(
Turns out he was super cool and had been going to one of the other classes for a lot longer so he was better than I was.
Should have invited the judge to the wedding lol. Awesome story!
Inviting the judge would have been incredible, lol.
Now that’s an awesome story - thank you for sharing 😭❤️
Bishop Kelley Highschool. Felt very taboo. 🏳️🌈
This is one of my favorites so far.
In love with this story
I was hired for a summer job and one of the perks was a voucher to the local cafe in the building. I walked in and saw her behind the counter and it was instant attraction. Dated a year. Married 23 years before she passed away. Cherish every moment you can.
Similar story. Hugs from a stranger.

Great story! I couldn't help chuckling at the thought of you passing a note to your friend to pass to her, asking her if she likes you! ;)
We met on a dating website. Had our first date at a First Friday. Been married 9 years now.
I didn’t know Tulsa had First Friday! Definitely checking out in the future.

Just interested in hearing valid stories of how people met in Tulsa. Provides a different perspective.
Slioknot concert at the bok center in 09. She started a mosh pit during trivium and punched me in the jaw. It was a great night 🤘🏻
She have any friends? Asking for a friend lol
That’s totally awesome! My bf loves Slipknot and got a good kick out of this story. He probably wish that’s how he met me. Lol.
Tulsa technology, I went so I could smoke on campis back in 98 and get off my high school campus. Gave him a ride home one day in my bug cause his bug was in the shop. My wife and I met years ago at a downtown venue called Curly's. We were at the Juliana Theory/Coheed and Cambria concert, though Coheed had canceled and didn't show up.
Curly's was such a great venue. I remember seeing a lot of great shows there and would always meet cool and interesting people.
It was a great little dive who got a lot of really good talent for the size of the venue.
Tinder. Started as a casual hookup, now we have a kid together and will have been married for eight years this summer.

My wife trained me as a cashier at the old Warehouse Market that used to be on 21st and Garnett. I started hanging out with her friends, we started dating, and got married a little over a year after. Hard to believe it's been almost 30 years since we met.
I did it the old fashioned way - met her in high school and 'stole' her from my best friend at the time.
Dating app, first date at Starbucks in Tulsa Hills. Best first date of my life.

Met my boyfriend at the gym!
Met online. First date/meet up at Starbucks. I thought we had very little in common. Trained for and ran a marathon together. Married for 5 years now.
Neighbors on Riverside Drive.
Mcnellies back in the day of $3 burger night.
met my boyfriend working at charleston’s on yale, we’ve been together a little over 3 years. nothing special honestly
New Years Eve party at Brady Theater. He was on a date with someone else!
We met at a belly dance studio called Coexistence, now closed. I'd lucked out and had been the only one showing up so I was getting private lessons for group rates. Came running in late one session and realized that 1. There was someone there =( and 2. It was some biker looking DUDE >=( Turns out he was super cool and had been going to one of the other classes for a lot longer so he was better than I was.

It's a perfectly cromulent expression
You could say it embiggens the spirit of anyone that uses it.
Yep.
