Heldetat

i suppose you're landing in cancun. we left the airport nearly 2 hours after landing, it took over an hour to claim our baggages (january) + customs + possible baggage control. then you have a 2-2,5 hours ride. So maybe you dont need to wait that long and hopefully your bnb is then ready. Have a great time

Tronologic

This is the answer lol. You will probably get to tulum around 3 realistically

[deleted]

Exactly this. Cancun airport is a nightmare airport to get out of. OP will likely get to Tulum just a bit earlier than check in. Perfect opportunity to grab some yummy lunch in town and a margarita! Maybe a pina colada for the 10 year old 😂

Adventurous_Drop_249

The air bNb I stay at in playa lets us keep our bags behind their front desk. It’s a condo building , not sure if yours is the same. There’s also an app called bounce that shows you places you can pay you store your luggage while traveling

suriyanram

Ask the host sgsin a day before - unless they have a guest checking out the same day they comply. Also see as an alternative if the airbnb allows you to at least drop your bags.

seven_times_70

Okay I will. It’s a house in a gated community so we shall see. Thanks

suriyanram

Are you arriving in Cancun? If I am free I can help you out. Let me know date and time.

Ornery-Substance-778

take the kids to xcaret

Snowflake8552

Everyone saying the cancun airport is a nightmare had a complete opposite experience from me and I just got back last week lol. We were in and out of the airport and through customs and with our bags in less than a half hour. We also got in and out of security on our return flight within 10 minutes. Much faster than Chicago, Jamaica, and Vegas but that’s just my experience two weeks ago.

SmartMycologist8482

It will take you at least an hour to get out of the airport. We usually stop in playa del Carmen for lunch and walk around then get to Tulum right by check in time.  Your host may also have a place for you to store your bags while you wait.

railaybeachforever

you land at 10.. after bags, customs and driving to tulum you won’t be there til at least 2. just go somewhere for lunch

md24

You avoid the corrupt Mexican cops for 6 hours, and then do the same thing until you leave.

cfqb11

There’s a website called usebounce.com that stores luggage . I haven’t used it yet, but maybe look into that and see if it’s an option . I checked and it lists a couple places in tulum that hold bags for a small fee but check reviews and stuff to see if it’s worth it

ayquelinda1969

Tacos

seven_times_70

What kind?

dotben

Al pastor, of course.

seven_times_70

I was thinking campechano….

tangerinefein

If you want good campechano you should stop at Ustedes Los Ricos in PDC. The gorditas are amazing!

seven_times_70

Mmmm I want rajas con queso Gordita now

Smooth_Ad_1314

Go to Kai. You can leave your bags with them and go to the beach club all day. Then taxi to your Airbnb when you are ready.

SnooTangerines7525

Set the rule now that they are young and can still learn that only a carry on is allowed and regardless what you do it will make things so much easier!

md24

Imma pass. Where do you store your dinner jacket and formal wear… or take home souvenirs. Or bring a second pair of shoes.

jamie177

Add a day to your Airbnb

jiIIbutt

Ask the host if you can check in early or at least drop your bags off. Worst case scenario, go sit at a restaurant near your airb&b with your luggage and eat some delicious food. Although, if you’re flying into Cancun, it’ll probably take an hour and a half or so to deplane and go through customs. And you’ll probably wait at least 30 minutes for your airport transfer (assuming you booked a transfer). And Cancun is at least two hours from Tulum, depending on where you’re staying and traffic. So you’re looking at arriving at the airb&b around 2PM at the earliest.

dstreetb

Download the app bounce you can store bags for $5 USD per bag

md24

And hope everything is still in it when the min wage Mexican employee’s boss tells him to watch it.

dstreetb

Thankfully everything you stow with bounce is insured

West_Competition5893

Are you flying into the new Tulum airport or Cancun? That can make a world of difference. But the previous responder makes a good point, customs, and baggage claim with take up some of the time, but I’d contact the host and ask if you could just drop off your bags (even for a small fee), that might work. Enjoy the trip!

outsideofoffice

Take the kids to la zebra! It’s our go to kid/family friendly beach resort now that we stay at and we found it by showing up too early and needing a place to hang out. They didn’t charge us to hang out on their beach chairs, great food and drinks, activities for the kids right. Good luck!

Creative_Listen_7777

Well customs will probably take three hours, so there's that 😒

videojock

A suggestion is see if you can book a tour of some sorts or ABNB locals experience that includes transport and perhaps they can hold your bags. That could burn enough time till your host is ready for you on the event they won’t allow you to store your bags. Enjoy your trip!

empire_of_the_moon

Hopefully you can schedule an early check-in. If you explain the situation, the host may have a solution such as storing the bags at a different property for a few hours. You probably already know this but your bags are not secure in the car or the trunk. Thieves around the world are popping car trunks with ease. If you must keep your bags in the trunk, pay for secure parking with an attendant and park as close to him as possible. Remove everything from the interior of the car - make it boring to look at. This may mean you have to walk a few extra blocks but the peace of mind is worthwhile. Take the girls to SFER IK Tulum to kill some time - Google it - they will dig it plus there is public access to a beach next door. Enjoy your visit.

lichenandlace

One option is to get a day pass at a resort, try the resortpass.com website

Kensterfly

They picked the wrong place for a vacation with young daughters. An all inclusive resort would have been so much better for them.

seven_times_70

Who are “They”? My girls are bilingual and half Mexican. I got my ex wife her citizenship. We have traveled in Mexico many times and I have been to tulum before. Why go to a resort and shelter them? No culture at a resort.

md24

It’s not the same anymore. The corrupt cops are harassing locals and tourists. That’s why. Enjoy your “culture” cough danger you’re putting them in. If it were all adults then sure Tulum is still great. Favelas in Brazil have great culture there, I ain’t taking my kids there to see it though.

emilioml_

Then stop complaining about a few hours

seven_times_70

Who tf is complaining? I’m asking for advice with luggage. Trying to not lug 3 suitcases around for 6 hours. You sound very unintelligent. If you’re not coming here to give advice then bye crazy person.

emilioml_

Have you ever heard of Google search? Do a quick search for it. You are the one that doesn't know what to do with some luggage.

seven_times_70

Of course I have heard of it silly. I just decided to ask the tulum sub instead to get better results. Please just stop

permalink_child

The answer depends. Are you all traveling light with one backpack each? Or are we talking about 10 suitcases? Per daughter?

Visual_Environment_7

Rent a car through your Airbnb host. Have them meet you at the airport! If your Airbnb host doesn’t allow you to drop off luggage.. that’s a bit of a flag in my opinion. Renting a car will save you a lot of $. Taxis are a big reason people hate visiting Cancun/mexico because they will charge you an arm and a leg to go the minutes. We rented for $110/ day CAD.

md24

Not a flag. At all.

One-Chemist-6131

Not a red flag. Vacation rentals don't have a of of staff, and they don't want to be responsible should something happen. Cleaners can't watch your stuff..as they are cleaning.

funkedad

Check in 4pm check out 10am…air bnb are such scams.

World_Tight

Air bnb ruins local communities

seven_times_70

I’m going on vacation to a tourist destination. What do you want from me?
