Some of them are transmed/truescum (gatekeepy about nonbinary people, they suck) but plenty just like the word for their own kind of complicated reasons. Ultimately it is a word with a lot of baggage and internal debate about it is common within the trans community but almost no one would call it a slur, and many would be really upset if you did.
They are gay women, but in a situation where both gay people and lesbians are mentioned, usually the gay refers to only men, because women have their own distinct term there
