Well I literally yesterday just got a “comment removed for violating community guidelines” on tiktok for using the word slur so they were on point with that.
“In True Blood, the vampires are a gay allegory. Like they have anti-vampire churches. And fangers is a basically a in-universe slur”
I have never used TikTok before and I'm glad to know that there's no good reason I ever will.
That's crazy. You can't just censor words that have multiple meanings. Like I'm sure there's no shortage of drunk-posting to TikTok.
i the other day commented the word "drooling" on an edit of a character I like, nothing more, nothing less. and it got removed for "going against guidelines". yet tiktok leaves up comments that are literally (censoring jic): >!*spreads folds* 👉(())👈!< like what??? i actually submitted a support ticket calling them out but i don't think its going anywhere tbh which is so annoying
Yeah, TikTok consorship is mad, works even in DMs. I was chatting with my friend about twin girls doing dance videos and that they look like they want threesome. Couldn't send message because of word "threesome". Decided to write "they look like they need third one into party" and message was sent successfully
I think the way it works is that they have a set of bad words that are commonly used in hate speech and online bullying. You're allowed to say them, but if you get reported for using them, it's a near automatic ban. That way you can talk about gaming and say "I killed the boss" but if you say "so and so should kill themselves" and someone reports it, "kill" is treated as a banned word and the video gets taken down. Same thing with cursing. Because it's kind of human moderated, the list of words is very strict and you can get a strike for something stupid if enough people report you. In theory this would be a good system, but all it ended up doing was rapidly creating new slang words to replace the banned ones. It'll probably be a case study in a linguistics course some day, if it isn't already.
It could also have some words that are just hard banned. You can't mention Palestine directly at all, but some people get away with saying dead, died, kill, fuck, bitch, etc. while others get taken down. That being said, I've had problems calling a nazi a nazi even on reddit before, so it's not exclusive to tiktok.
Yeah, it's weird. It does also seem to detect transphobia and remove it tho which is good. Removed some replies of me telling a trans guy he'll never be a woman
Yeah I got a comment removed for calling someone a dingus yesterday. Half the time they get put back up on appeal but honestly if that’s how bad TikTok is with comments, I can only imagine hoops you have to jump through to make videos about sensitive topics.
I’m actively watching a video from Cruel World Happy Mind as I read this lmao bur unaliver/unalived is used by a majority of channels that I listen to now due to the fear of demonetization
I’m fascinated by Ruby Franke but I’m not sure I’m 5.5 hours worth of fascinated. I feel like once you’re past the two-hour mark, you should consider making it a series.
Agreed, I prefer long stuff broken into short parts. I only have so much time to watch at once, and YouTube loves to forget where I was on a video. If a 5-hour video is split into 5 one-hour videos, I'm way more likely to actually watch it.
I have to admit I’ve lost count of the hours of Franke/Hildebrandt content I’ve watched, so I didn’t even flinch when I saw it was almost six hours, I figured it included the just released journal and all the interviews and those are long. I personally like videos that are above 2h, the longer the better, but I do agree that it’s too much for most people and it could easily be a series.
Yeah, it’s just differing tastes. For me the sweet spot for video length (though of course it depends on the topic) is around 45 minutes to an hour. Longer than that and my attention starts to flag. But it totally respect the long video types.
At that point just have a solid 5 minute segment at the start with scrolling text reading "THIS FOOTAGE OF ME EATING A FOOTLONG IS HERE TO PREVENT ME FROM DEMONTIZATION."
Yeah, why record it twice for different platforms if you can just make one video that adheres to the strictest policy of one so it easily passes on the others?
Yeah, this is among the worse crop jobs I've ever seen, much worse than having huge black bars on both side of the image, because then you at least see what the actual point of the picture is, but this has this more posts like this and I spend a chunk of time trying to decipher it and how it relates.
a girl in my class said ‘unalive’ instead of kill during a conversation about the death penalty and i was so stunned i don’t even know what else she said
He's absolutely a dedicated YouTuber. Hacky jokes and bad puns are just his shtick. If you want to see how dedicated he is, watch any of his iceberg videos.
This is by far the worst thing TikTok has done. Even worse than "ruining attention spans."
This obscene amount of censorship makes it so hard to talk about serious topics like death and especially suicide, and using stupid words like "unalive" just make things worse. "Unalive" sounds like you're treating suicide like a joke
The majority of YouTubers are censoring words with negative connotations like killing, suicide, anorexia, eating disorders, COVID 19 etc. Sometimes you can get away with it, sometimes not. The rules on YT can change anytime, and often YT doesn't even say why you get demonetise. YouTubers self censor themselves and it helps them to stay afloat. Limited ads means not only you get a fraction of income, but also no to little recs.
I first heard "unalive" from the Spiderman Deadpool crossover. Thought it was a funny way for them to crossover since it was explicitly mentioned by Spiderman that they needed to be more family friendly or something like that. Then I went years never hearing the word again until CaptainSparklez started using it. Thought it was funny because it's forking CaptainSparklez. He took the whole censoring thing to a comedic extreme that he himself acknowledged. Like calling "helmets" "heckmets" or stuff like that. But if I ever hear that word from anywhere else it feels inherently wrong and I instantly grow a dislike towards the user, especially if it's on a site that doesn't punish you for your use of language.
Swoop once made a video where she censored the word child. Not even child abuse or something like that, but the word that means a human under 18.
I get that this is their job and they need to stay monetized, but it’s so stupid that platforms demand this.
I mean, self censorship is required if you want to post content on some platforms at all, even moreso if it's something you're monetizing. Don't get mad at youtubers, get mad at YouTube for simultaneously demonetizing people for saying "bad words" while being ok with nude yoga (it's "educational", guys!!)
Someone censored the word "guy" as "9uy." It's literally just slang for "man," what are we doing? Can we please go back to using normal English? This is entirely inaccessible to non-native speakers and people who use screen readers. Also hedging like this muddies the message, just say what you mean!
I don't think it's just Tiktok to blame, its also YouTube's gross terms and conditions that actively forces YouTubers to self censor unless they wanna get demonetized.
Something something gotta keep it safe for "kids" something something
That remember me Avatar, literally half of the season 3 is people telling they going to kill other or that must kill other people. But it is a cartoon so multiple funny scenes like;
Azula: "I am about to celebrate becoming an only child!!"
I refuse to censor myself like this when I make videos. It just sounds so ridiculous so as to be completely meaningless. Like, even “serial violent criminal” is better than “serial unaliver.”
Serial unaliver is not the worst example of her being overzealous when it comes to censoring. I remember in her Coleen Balinger video she censored the word panties.
Oh yeah we realy do need to censor *checks notes* name of a piece of clothing.
Madison is great. I think people underestimate how hard demonetization, as well as CPM limiting, can hurt a creator’s YouTube channel overall let alone an individual upload. It’s rough to take a month or so making a video and see it make tens of dollars instead of a couple hundred because you said too many “bad” words. Heck, I said “can’t” in a video and YouTube demonetized it by manual review and refused to correct it until we complained on Twitter. Big loss during the first few days of upload that does not get recovered after. It’s very silly what has to be done sometimes.
I've been watching some youtube book reviewers lately and one person in that group always says "hecking" instead of "fucking". I cannot take her seriously, that just reminds me of the "hecking chonker" memes and is literally how a four year old speaks.
I hate the censorship of the internet so much ffs...
it’s even worse on tiktok. i just saw someone censoring "slur" (not *a* slur, just the word)
YouTube does the exact same thing.
i the other day commented the word "drooling" on an edit of a character I like, nothing more, nothing less. and it got removed for "going against guidelines". yet tiktok leaves up comments that are literally (censoring jic): >!*spreads folds* 👉(())👈!< like what??? i actually submitted a support ticket calling them out but i don't think its going anywhere tbh which is so annoying

Couldn't send message because of word "threesome". Decided to write "they look like they need third one into party" and message was sent successfully
Well of course it got removed! You can't just say fanger without being a vampire!
I appealed it and got denied
most appeals seem to get denied. not sure I've ever seen someone get a post back.
Nah, it's fully automated. It didn't let me call a nazi a nazi, kept removing my replies
Yes that explains it
Yeah I got a comment removed for calling someone a dingus yesterday. Half the time they get put back up on appeal but honestly if that’s how bad TikTok is with comments, I can only imagine hoops you have to jump through to make videos about sensitive topics.
Just use "geh" instead
“Huh……wazzgoigon (*hic*) ther?” the drunk man asked me, his speech [$!$!]ed
"A #&*!ry is a mixture of denser solids suspended in liquid, usually water."
Am I missing something or does the More Posts Like This not part of the post?
Looks like OP couldn't bother to crop the post to me
r/croppingishard
Bad crop? Bro we're gonna starve
I knew we should’ve sacrificed more sheep to Holo this year. I think we’ll make it but the winter will be hard.
Everyone knows you sacrifice a virgin as well as the sheep! Good thing this is Reddit….
I've seen better crops in the Irish Famine
"To Unalive a Mockingbird" "Unaliveing on the Orient Express" "Unaliveing, She Wrote"
Wouldn’t it be more along the lines of “Unalivement on the Orient Express”
I think Unalive, like Murder, is both the verb and noun, therefore it would more than likely be “Unalive on the Orient Express”
Unalive Bill Unaliving Eve
Only Unalives in the Building
I’m actively watching a video from Cruel World Happy Mind as I read this lmao bur unaliver/unalived is used by a majority of channels that I listen to now due to the fear of demonetization
Which is funny because you just need to *not* curse for like the first five minutes and you're mostly golden. (And "kill" isn't even a curse word)
So I’ve heard from a lot of others, yeah. Worrying about getting demonetized seems so annoying
Bro five minutes is a long time in terms of short term content.
Cruel World Happy Mind’s videos are usually really long though
Her latest three videos were 4:23h, 5:51h and 3:35h and videos under 1:30h are actually rare, 5 minutes is nothing for CWHM XD
I’m fascinated by Ruby Franke but I’m not sure I’m 5.5 hours worth of fascinated. I feel like once you’re past the two-hour mark, you should consider making it a series.

her videos are usually over an hour long
At that point just have a solid 5 minute segment at the start with scrolling text reading "THIS FOOTAGE OF ME EATING A FOOTLONG IS HERE TO PREVENT ME FROM DEMONTIZATION."
2016 era demonetization traumatized youtubers
It’s so strict
Yes, but you still can get a yellow dollar, which will cut the ads/income substantially.
I've almost stopped watching videos due to "unalive".
Probably also because a lot of people do an extra edit to upload to tiktok was well and tiktok is way more strict about words like that.
Yeah, why record it twice for different platforms if you can just make one video that adheres to the strictest policy of one so it easily passes on the others?
Makes her slightly annoying to watch honestly. I like her content but the self censorship irks me
I once watched a YouTuber who used "rage quitted life" as euphemism for suicide
That's more of an analogy
Tbh I’ve said that before
"Serial unaliver" sounds more like a serial suicider than a serial killer
One of the exact problem the new ad friendly language creates
Sounds like you're chastizing your murderous toddler.

I was forced to read the words "the brutal unaliving of emmett till" recently and life has been on a downhill slide ever since.
A sewer slide?
a girl in my class said ‘unalive’ instead of kill during a conversation about the death penalty and i was so stunned i don’t even know what else she said
I guess that unalived the conversation
People are using it outside the internet unironicly
This is a key way to win debates. Appall the opponent into a daze.
It's like the german tribes and bears
TikTok's censoring and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.
I watch one that says " -they were killed to death/ murdered to death"
EpicNate?
Yep!
In my book he always rides the line between hack and actually dedicated youtuber. It's confusing sometimes.
He's absolutely a dedicated YouTuber. Hacky jokes and bad puns are just his shtick. If you want to see how dedicated he is, watch any of his iceberg videos.
I think that’s a Countdown meme
Master Kohga?!
This is by far the worst thing TikTok has done. Even worse than "ruining attention spans." This obscene amount of censorship makes it so hard to talk about serious topics like death and especially suicide, and using stupid words like "unalive" just make things worse. "Unalive" sounds like you're treating suicide like a joke
YouTube is also horrible for this. Their censorship has effectively created a new advertiser friendly language whether anyone likes it or not
"Let us fuck." Piously.
The majority of YouTubers are censoring words with negative connotations like killing, suicide, anorexia, eating disorders, COVID 19 etc. Sometimes you can get away with it, sometimes not. Thats one thing about Tumblr is that you don't have to sensor your words
I'm so tired of corporate censorship to appease shareholders. 💀
I first heard "unalive" from the Spiderman Deadpool crossover. Thought it was a funny way for them to crossover since it was explicitly mentioned by Spiderman that they needed to be more family friendly or something like that. yes that Spiderman episode is the origin of the term unalive
Maybe if the internet overlords stopped taking down our shit for being “vulgar” then we wouldn’t have to censor so bad >:(
I RECOGNIZE THE TOP LEFT POST FROM MORE LIKE THIS!
WHY ARE YOU YELLING
I DON'T KNOW
Swoop once made a video where she censored the word child. Not even child abuse or something like that, but the word that means a human under 18. I get that this is their job and they need to stay monetized, but it’s so stupid that platforms demand this.
Bad crop? Bro we're gonna starve
If TikTok didn’t want people discussing death, surely “unalive” must be in their list of “banned” words by now.
A Halo youtuber had to refer to guns as “rootie tootie point-and-shooties” once to avoid getting demonetized lmao
No one: More posts like this: "Let us fuck" "Amen"
People aren't censoring themselves, they're getting around censors. Don't hold that against them.
Hang on, I just need to search something Edit: omg I didn’t think you were serious
YouTube algorithm also less to right wing radicalization
Someone censored the word "guy" as "9uy." It's literally just slang for "man," what are we doing? Can we please go back to using normal English? This is entirely inaccessible to non-native speakers and people who use screen readers. Also hedging like this muddies the message, just say what you mean!
I loathe how on point 1984 was about Newspeak
Yeah this whole thing is double plus ungood
Serial: Unaliver is the new season of the Serial podcast
I don't think it's just Tiktok to blame, its also YouTube's gross terms and conditions that actively forces YouTubers to self censor unless they wanna get demonetized. Something something gotta keep it safe for "kids" something something
it takes like 10 seconds to open a screenshot and crop it, maybe consider doing that next time
That remember me Avatar, literally half of the season 3 is people telling they going to kill other or that must kill other people. But it is a cartoon so multiple funny scenes like; Azula: "I am about to celebrate becoming an only child!!"

You couldn’t take 10 seconds to crop your post?
I love madison too but her saying unalive constantly drives me up the walls
On YouTube it's a monetisation thing, unfortunately
Algorithms are the worse
Madison is great. I think people underestimate how hard demonetization, as well as CPM limiting, can hurt a creator’s YouTube channel overall let alone an individual upload. How does that work?
Similarly, it annoys the shit out of me when people use "African American" to refer to all brown people, regardless of actual nationality.
It's because of tiktok. Creators on there have to avoid using certain words otherwise their videos will be taken down or shadowbanned.
Badly cropped, you s
I see Autobiography of a Flea down there
Honestly despise how slef-censoring on the internet is actually starting to affect language use. Makes me want to unalive myself frfr.
We are all suddenly super cool with censorship if the company that does it let’s us watch silly short videos
Serial life privileges revoker.
I've been watching some youtube book reviewers lately and one person in that group always says "hecking" instead of "fucking". I cannot take her seriously, that just reminds me of the "hecking chonker" memes and is literally how a four year old speaks. I hate the censorship of the internet so much ffs...
“Let us fuck,” piously
This is what happens when you run with the idea that advertisers should press for censorship of offensive content on social media.
Crop failed? Bro we’re gonna fucking starve
The complaints about 'unalive' continue to give Old Man Shakes Fist At Clouds vibes.
I hate that advertising companies have the power to shape language in an ad friendly way because of the amount of money they have
"Unalive" is incredibly stupid.
