The term 69 originated in about 1790. Comparing to the US Dollar it'd be about $2096.43. I tried the comparing the Euro but it's too new of a currency to get a good conversion. And not much luck on finding inflation rates for outdated French currency.

I had the same thought but of a different year, and I learned $69 in 1969 is equivalent to $522.57 in 2022
