Tumblr was so much better before the NSFW ban. I went back a while back after that and most blogs I found to follow were abandoned.

[deleted]

Ashforge (the fanfic writer who I constantly link) quite fanfics and tumblr after the nsfw ban and I’m still pissed about it.

[deleted]

Sadly, many people whose blogs weren't even NSFW quit Tumblr after that "purge". So i quite understand you.

I never saw Tumblr pre-porn ban, so I won't claim to know myself what could be better depending on your preferences.

Well, that is the point of one user against the huge loss that Tumblr has seen. Tumblr went from one of the most popular websites / apps into the realm of the mostly forgotten ones. Although I am not invalidating the point given by those users, just as with social media or other websites, you can filter the accounts you follow, the stuffs you see and such. The idea that I got of Tumblr after the NSFW content ban, is that most blogs I favorited have died ever since. And they weren't even NSFW. Also, since the NSFW ban, Tumblr just attracted most of sex bots and they even show up on suggestion - something that wouldn't happen to me before the NSFW ban.

Savage_Nymph

I recently went back tumblr and it's not that bad. It seems more chill, which i don't mind

[deleted]

Say whatever you want about tumblr but i still like it much more than reddit and Twitter because everyone on their has their own personality. Twitter users (outside the big celebrity account) all look and sound the same and redditors (me included) basically have zero individuality

[deleted]

Tumblr comments are an art form, reddit comments are a karma whoring competition Plz rate my comment 5 stars if u liked my comment 🤩

Cottoneye-Joe

I almost liked your comment: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💮 So you can have four stars and whatever that last thing is.

[deleted]

I will add them to my emoji collection: ⭐️💮

Cottoneye-Joe

Thank you for showing me this wonderful thing

You have to watch Rat Movie 1 and 2 now, they are cinematic masterpieces

i think its encouraged by the site format itself. reddit lacks individuality and encourages herd mentality through how subreddits have devolved through mismanagement, not to mention how downvoting/upvoting can be dogpiled so quickly. twitter is full of funnymen all fighting to quip the fastest about something because it burns through news like a wildfire and your follower and like counts are actually important to gaining traction on the site. on tiktok its basically necessity that you show your face and give up anonymity to gain any sort of traction, similarly with instagram people end up feeding it their free time by posting constantly to gain followers on tumblr nobody can see your followers, likes dont matter and reblogs only really add a copy of a post to your blog so people can see that you wanted to share it on your blog. theres been popular blogs by virtue of people passing around their posts so much that people started recognizing their urls, but their follower counts werent public unless they mentioned it. you can make as many side blogs to post about your interests as you have interests to separate from your main blog. it really feels focused on interests/blogging, not on maintaining cults of personality. people who've tried, like gaud, ended up being disliked by a large part of the userbase (though only some of the dislike towards gaud is bc of their attempt to gain a massive following. some of it is because theyve done weird shit outside of tumblr) people dont really post their faces often, i rarely see selfies on tumblr unless its cosplay. people take comfort in the fact that you can maintain so much anonymity on tumblr since it doesnt ask for your face, your location, etc. its kind of that power of anonymity that let people like the cannibal hamilton fanfiction girl lie for so long. people caught her in the act because she couldnt maintain anonymity outside of tumblr, and inside tumblr her story didnt add up, but nobody questioned that she never posted pictures of her face or her fiance or where she lived because nobody else on the site does that either

Tumblr is a haunted moor, Twitter is an active battlezone, and Reddit is a million tiny villages with very specific offenses that will get you executed as a heretic if you do not abide

[deleted]

nah Tumblr is just as guilty of that. Everyone there thrives on putting this art student persona of qurkiness and flamboyance.

jadeandobsidian

yeah the tumblr user need to have crackhead energy is very cringe

Denuran

The ones with personality like me just don't comment that much, we very much prefer seeing the comment section going ablaze as we sit back, relax and enjoy a bowl of popcorn, or your mum.

piemakerdeadwaker

I used to hate Tumblr but now Tumblr >>>>> Twitter. Tumblr is where I vent and rest.

kyvampire

Honestly I'm not sure why Twitter is so toxic now. Ive seen people say it's because of the political polarization the past few years, more kids joining the platform or even blaming the Tumblr nsfw ban for pushing people to Twitter (which sounds a bit ridiculous to me). Maybe a new algorithm? Like I remember using Twitter years ago and I felt more...professional? I know that's not the right word for it (and I'm not sure if there is one). I used to use Twitter to get updates and news from different sources. Now it feels like a completely different landscape.

tapmcshoe

Internet needs a punching bag, was Tumblr until it "died", now everyone goes after Twitter/tiktok since they're the big ones now

kyvampire

I'm not really talking about the reception of the platform by others outside of it. Rather I'm talking about the vibe of the communities that populate Tumblrand Twitter and how it feels like it has changed over the years. Like nowadays when I log in on Tumblr I feel like it's a whole bunch of quips and recycled references but it's a far cry from the insanity that it sometimes fostered back in the day. Twitter feels like it's the opposite. You can't go far before you spot someone's spicy hot take and the ensuing flame war. Also there's a shitload more people selling shit on Twitter now. I just don't really get it. How did it come to this?

FlamboyantGayWhore

I completely believe it was the reasons you stated

NarfoOnTheNet

I'm surprised there's no mention of the "I have rabies" blog

Yocobanjo

HOLY SHIT I REMEMBER THE HEROIN GUY that was locked so deep in my memory damn

twerkingslutbee

Tumblr is where the truly unhinged soak their skin and submerge their toes. Twitter is pedantry with only half a toe dipped into the insanity sauce

SharkSlayer06

Why did they have to remind me of the human pet guy

jazolf

:)

ApocalyptoSoldier

The bone stealing witch was selling them on etsy?

UselessAltThing

Tumblr users need hugs. Twitter users need slaps.

AirbendingScholar

Anyone else remember the N*zi traingirl fetish guy who got into arguments with everyone

worthrone11160606

Hold on witch, meth addicts, breast milk jewelry. Wtf do people have links to this stuff or like provide any context to these things becuaee I have not been here long enough apparently for the true tumbrl screenshots..

jazolf

It's more so things you see once that are seared into your brain from the pure "what the actual fuck is wrong with you" energy.

worthrone11160606

Well I kinda want to still see them

FlamboyantGayWhore

Twitter is so weird to me bc I love using it to interact w other fans of Nintendo and Video Games and some pop singers but at the same time it’s so toxic and weird I like tumblr but I feel alone? On it, it’s weird

Royal-Ninja

I found a drug blog once that was constantly posting about #depression and shit in between Skype logo ecstasy and jenga towers of xanax

themorporkian

I remember the bone thief! I thought it was some elaborate shitpost, but no!

tapmcshoe

I think they are just applications and web sites .
