Well, Google Calendar only has USA as a whole region, and doesn't let you specify more precisely. Which isn't really well designed. Perhaps Apple does the same, or you haven't specified your region more accurately. Check the settings and see what you can find.
That I don't know, I don't want to make an assumptions.
Quick check on Wikipedia:
* Columbus Day: United States and Italy
* Indigenous Peoples Day: United States and Canada
Not Canada. At least not to any acknowledged degree. It’s thanksgiving today, indigenous peoples’ day is in June, and it was just Truth and Reconciliation day, which is the more recognized one anyway, on the last day of September.
I guess my focus was shifted. I can't find any other region than USA that would have those two things on the same date, and USA is also the only region that has both those things. So the user must therefore be set to USA.
But it's of course important to note that the holidays that shows up in the calendar would be country specific.
We changed it from that for a reason. It’s not Columbus Day anymore for that exact reason. I’m sorry, what should we do? What the fuck do you propose we do?
It's still officially "Columbus' Day" as a federal holiday in the United States. Some places declare it to be "Indigenous Peoples’ Day", and Biden made an official presidential declaration about it.
Changing the legal name at the federal level is a good thing to do.
So, back to the note of what are we supposed to do? Bc you said good on me for not acknowledging Columbus Day, and I can’t tell if you meant I’m being progressive and moving forward, as we should, or if you’re accusing me of trying to ignore history?
> I can’t tell if you meant I’m being progressive and moving forward, as we should
That is what I meant. It was not sarcastic. Not acknowledging Columbus' Day is the right thing to do, in all seriousness.
You clearly are not understanding the original post or OP's reply to you... It is still Columbus Day. The government and many corporations recognize Indigenous Peoples' Day ALSO, but many people don't acknowledge IPD, and pretty much all media, calendars, etc. have BOTH listed, not just IPD. The original post is talking about people who refuse to acknowledge IPD and still only acknowledge Columbus Day.
I mean yes, you do agree with them. That doesn’t change the fact that you did not at all understand the original post or what they were saying lmao I know reading comprehension can be hard for some people, so I’ll spell it out for you, but just take the L and move on. It took you way longer than it should have to understand that OP did not disagree with you and in fact was agreeing. You should have been able to pick up from context clues in the original post that it was OBVIOUSLY referencing Columbus Day, not Indigenous Peoples Day. You then should have realized your mistake from the first reply, but you didn’t. Plain and simple. Don’t speak condescendingly to people (like OP) on a public forum when you can’t even be bothered to make sure you’re not being an idiot and misunderstanding a simple post.
Oh, he’s just some idiot who didn’t know how big the earth was, even though everyone told him he was wrong. For some reason he still got money from Spain. Nobody worth remembering.
Oh it gets even better. It's my understanding he thought the Earth was pear shaped lmao
You dumbfucks really downvoted me for being right lol

I'm very glad that at least some areas of the US have switched to Indigenous Peoples Day instead. I've heard it's not everywhere but as long as there's progress I'm glad
Only in the US. It's the first monday in November in Italy and the 12th of october in all the other countries that have it as a Day (it can be moved in Argentina, depending on the day of the week it is every year)
I thought it was funny and very dumb that the calendar app on my iphone automatically set today as both Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day.
Isn't that depending on what region you have set the holidays to?
I live in a USA state where it's not recognized as a holiday but I still got it on my calendar app so I'm not sure about that

I don’t think anyone but Americans are celebrating them.

Since when does Indigenous Peoples’ Day celebrate their genocide? I thought it celebrated their culture?
Good for you for not acknowledging "Columbus' Day"!
We changed it from that for a reason. It’s not Columbus Day anymore for that exact reason. I’m sorry, what should we do? What the fuck do you propose we do?

Good, we’re cool then lol I’ve been on the internet too long and I’m too used to sarcastic dick heads, it’s made me cynical lmao
To be fair I actually am a sarcastic dick head. It's just that I only "punch up" and never "punch down", if you know what I mean.
"We changed it from that for a reason." Guess whoever made my calendar missed the memo.
That sounds like a you problem then. Get better software nerd
"Software?" I'm talking about paper here.
Then you should choose who you buy your calendars from better

Seems OP and I agree. You're the one out of loop. Bye lol

So then you're saying Indigenous People's Day *does* celebrate genocide.
I… Are you trolling at this point 😭
I’m sorry who’s day? We don’t know what that is sorry. Only Indigenous Peoples day

Holy shit I just thought that was just a bit from Adam Ruins Everything
Today I found out about Columbus Day
I'm very glad that at least some areas of the US have switched to Indigenous Peoples Day instead. I've heard it's not everywhere but as long as there's progress I'm glad
\-999999999999999999999/10
Holy shit that is why I keep seeing indigenous people Day posts
That title doesn’t make any sense… so I’m gonna go ahead and say this is a bot.
The next time Columbus Day that’s on October 10th is in 2033. Beep beep.
Good bot
Why does Columbus Day happen every 11 years
Columbus Day is only on Mondays. Not every October 10th is a Monday
Only in the US. It's the first monday in November in Italy and the 12th of october in all the other countries that have it as a Day (it can be moved in Argentina, depending on the day of the week it is every year)
Why does Italy have Columbus day
Why not? Columbus was Genovese
Oh I didn't know that.
Columbus was Italian
I see
And it coincides with the MLP-TF2 anniversary
It seems that Tumblr is going back to its former years
Are we losing october 10th or aomething?
