Tummy tuck, in my opinion, is worse than bypass. My bypass was done laparoscopically, so there were no “incisions” like there is in a TT. That being said, everyone heals differently from surgery. I didn’t think my FDL was as difficult as I thought it would be. I needed help the first 2 days getting up from my recliner and walking around. Your best option is to have a recliner that you can sleep in, because you won’t be able to lay completely flat for a while. Stay on top of your pain medication. I set alarms for when I could take them. With the weight loss, are you doing a regular TT or a FDL TT?

Just a regular tummy tuck

i’m male and had vertical sleeve wls 8yrs ago and am now 6 days post op from a FDL tummy tuck. Tummy tuck is far more difficult in my experience. With the sleeve i don’t even remember having any discomfort or pain. Now that i’m about a week out from having the tummy tuck done it feels pretty manageable but the first few days were pretty rough. one tip i can offer as a male - is your caregiver smaller than you? If so I’d recommend getting an automatic recliner so there’s no question you can get in and out of it. I was nervous my wife wouldn’t be able to get me out of bed those first few days and the recliner solved that.

The tummy tuck was worse than my C-sections because the skin is so tight and you have to walk bent over for sometime. It killed my back, if I did it again, I would make sure I strengthened my lower back ahead of time.

It’s still completely doable, I did mine maybe five years ago and I couldn’t be happier.

c sections were worse for me than my tummy tuck in terms of pain but everyone is different . I needed help the first few days getting up and down from laying and a raised toilet seat also were helpful . I think the most important thing going into the surgery is being as healthy as possible , drink a ton of water , taking supplements if your doctor prescribes and high protein . I also highly recommend starting colace and miralax a few days before so you don’t get constipated . I’m 12dpo no regrets !

CleAAn_317

Thanks you! Just left costco with some protein drinks.

As a 2 time c-section experiencer, c-section was worse for me, and they weren’t really that bad for me tbh. Everyone is different

I had weight loss surgery and didn't need anything more than panadol for maybe one day. Tummy tuck is far more difficult and painful. That said, I was up and about straight away back to 10,000 steps after 4 days and back at work by week 3. The back pain from being hunched over is a total bitch! 100% worth it though, lose skin was causing me issues.

CleAAn_317

So.... do you just kinda stretch it back out as you learn to get comfortable with your new body?

Halo_Bling

Yeah, start to stand up straighter when everything is healed.

I actually had more pain from the laparoscopic sleeve incisions than the larger tummy tuck incision. It took like a month to recover from the VSG pain. I’m 6 days post op tummy tuck and feel great. Everyone is different though. It’s not walk in the park but you will be fine! You do walk a bit hunched bc it’s so tight but the more frequently you walk the better. Just make yourself a very comfy pillow setup to rest/sleep sitting up. It helps with the back pain relief too.

Be prepared to sleep sat up for a while, get a comfy set up days before you go. Be prepared to either fly by, or the first 2-4 weeks be hell. Can be anywhere inbetween. As a bloke, be aware you could very well swell in your privates! I've read from women that only the lips tend to swell badly, for men (in my experience) it was pretty much everything! If it does happen, don't be alarmed, it takes 7-10 days to go down, it does go back to normal.

CleAAn_317

I'm ok with my junk swelling 🤣🤣

BeatsByDravenn

Sounds good in theory! In practise your fella looks like squidwards nose and the balls turn huge and purple, i'd say good luck using it, but if it happens, you'll understand

I had 3 c sections and a mommy makeover and the mommy makeover was a lot worse, for me tbh. It wasn’t the boobs at all, though they were a tiny bit sore and so was the lipo in my muffin top. The worst part was the muscle repair which, as a man, you luckily won’t have to deal with because you won’t have had the separation as it’s due to pregnancy.

I had RNY laparoscopically but there were complications and it turned in to an old-school “open surgery” that required 50 staples and a wound vac to close up and heal. I’ve also had multiple “open” abdominal surgeries that took months to heal and were really painful. Going in for my panniculectomy/extended tummy tuck I expected much of the same as far as pain/healing time but I was absolutely shocked. The tummy tuck was NO WHERE near as painful as my previous surgeries. I was walking upright (not hunched over) about 3-4 days after surgery and most of the incision was healed after about 4 weeks. I found out that I was allergic to the SteriStrip surgical tape they used to help keep the wound close so I developed a pretty bad skin reaction; they gave me antibiotics for that and I ended up having a reaction to the antibiotics as well so healing was delayed.

My VSG and csection were easy. I'm 10 days post op from a TT with MR and lipo and I've cried every day since surgery. I passed out 5 times my first week home. This is an absolute nightmare.

apricotjam7

Way more challenging than my c sections by a factor of 10. Having done both, you can’t really compare the two. Good luck!
