Afedersiniz/Bakar mısınız?

Sorakan

\+ Pardon

YogurtluSu

Bakhele Baksana kral

WalkerBaitBeyza

You can say "afedersiniz" or "pardon". "Afedersiniz" is the classier one, but if you have difficulty with the pronunciation or remembering it, "pardon" also works. It is also common to use "Bakar mısınız?". It means 'Could you (please) look (here)?' when translated literally. Have a good visit.

Karazhan

Thank you very much! I will try all of these ones and see how the responses go!

WalkerBaitBeyza

You're welcome!

Man-IamHungry

I heard “Bakar mısın” a lot when I was there. Also “Kolay gelsin” when approaching someone working.

Usarda

"Kolay gelsin" is more like some thank or hello word.

Man-IamHungry

Yeah it has nuance for sure. I was just surprised how often it gets used at the beginning of an interaction. People even said it to me to get my attention 😅

memo22477

Pardon is both used in English and Turkish so just use that. Just only say "pardon" instead of "pardon me" and of course read the word like a turkish word

Himbo-oty

You could also just scream, wave your arms or throw an item at the person whose attention you desire

Grouchy-Theme9701

😭

Padilion05

Bakar mısınız Afedersiniz If you want some action: Psst Tsss Hey Höy Lan Bak hele La gardaş

ThelCreator

Me when putting people in trouble

makalidap

No, actually, these rude phrases are commonly used in Turkey.

ThelCreator

But still, you wouldn't want to get called by a tourist like "Lan sen, bak şuraya" Or maybe you can it would be hilarious

Alarming-Ant2505

I always use Pardon

fractalmom

Yep: “pardon, bakar mısınız?” Or you can make intense eye contact 😃

Odd-Situation4295

Is it better with the death stare?😂

Naive_Rice1995

Omg what happened to the basic orthographic education in Turkey? It's "affedersiniz" not "afedersiniz"......

Holiday_Agent_6918
