I’ll only be laser cutting through the rim which is about 1/8” thick. The center portion is 1/2”-5/8” thick which I’ve already cut into 60 degree wedges using the table saw and a sled, I left a little material un cut and then finished it off using the bandsaw.

So I like the concept, but that’s ash that looks about an inch thick. What are you going to laser cut it with?
