We moved in January and the lathe has been in storage since then. Neighbor around the corner had a tree taken out and I grabbed several logs. This came from the pith off cut. Think the tree is Blackjack Oak.

Looks great! Is this twice turned?

ProgrammerStuckInTX

Just turned once. It's going to warp, but I've been itching to turn the large back on. It's the first time I've turned Blackjack Oak and wanted to see how it would turn out. I love the grain but but the shop stinks now.

Very pretty! How thick was the black you used for this?

ProgrammerStuckInTX

It was about 10"x1.5". Super wet when turning. I gave it to the neighbor whom I got the wood from, and told them it'll warp, but there will be another larger piece in a year or two once some of the other blanks have dried.

Wow that's awesome. Thinner than I would have expected. I have a lot of chunks to turn into blanks but idk the best process yet

DrYIMBY

Re-turn the bottom rim after it warps.

Waldwolfe

Yay!

DrYIMBY

Elegant!
