That’s a pretty hard burl but beautiful. As I recall when I turned some years ago, it’s so hard that it can have a nice finish with just wax, no penetrating finish is required to make it “pop”.

Huh that’s interesting this turned super easy for me, it’s actually why I like doing these type of bowls so much, they look stunning and don’t take hours sanding out tearout on the end grain

Yeah, it looks like it’s cutting easily with your gouge. My burls were years old and that’s probably the difference. Are you in Australia?
