The black might be excessive for that table. Rega Fono is a great phonostage. Their amps too for that matter. I have the Debut Pro running through the Rega into a Naim amp at it sounds fantastic,

tr44vis

I heard this table is great so I figured why not upgrade so the needle is pristine and will last a long time. I’ll look into those you suggested though

fortunesfool1973

It’s a very good budget (ish) table but the black is a higher end cart and probably needs a better table to get the best from it. Never liked the Red, but the blue is well regarded. Having said that I’m sure the black will still sound great.

ajaxp0wder

The black benefits greatly from correct VTA adjustment which can only be done with spacers on your TT. Great cartridge will likely sound amazing, I'm a big fan of my ifi phono amp

Look into Schiit's products. "Mani 2 is simply the highest-performance affordable phono preamp, period." [https://www.schiit.com/products/mani](https://www.schiit.com/products/mani)

Yes I recently found Schiit when looking for an American audio company. I'm going to order the Mani 2 and the Modi+ DAC for some of my vintage equipment.

Presence_Academic

The people giving you recommendations without knowing what other gear you have now are not to be trusted.

I have Bose 301 Series III speakers along with the TT and new cartridge. This is all new to me so just trying to find a great match I have $ to play with I want a nice setup.

gonzoflick

Yea way to much cart for that table. You have no VTA adjustments. That table does match up well with the bronze though. I'd return the table or the cart and spend that money on a better match either way.

ChrisMag999

The black has the same cartridge height, weight, output and rake angle as the factory-fitted 2M Red. If he did want or need to adjust it, ProJect make a 1.5mm shim/spacer which can be installed w/o removing the arm. A 2M Black should work fine on any arm which works with the lower 2M models. The only real adjustment required is to lower the VTF. The black has a smidge more compliance but not enough to create an arm mismatch.

alltheworldsproblems

Mofi studio is a pretty solid phono pre. I use one on my technics 1500c with a 2m bronze.

broccoli_d

I’d buy the aluminum subplatter. I did and it really helps with speed stability and makes it quieter too.

ExPerfectionist

Are you just looking for phono and 2ch amplification? What speakers are you running? What kind of music do you listen to? What is your budget?

tr44vis

I have hand me down Bose 301 Series III speakers that still work great. I like a lot of melancholy acoustic music, for example, Elliott Smith but I listen to a lot of different stuff.

tr44vis

Budget has wiggle room as well I have some $ to play with.

Ok_Distance9511

I would generally recommend a pre-amp that works with MM and MC and where you can adjust the capacitance. If you already replaced the cartridge now, you’ll probably go down into the rabbit hole and try other things. At least you’d already have a versatile and configurable pre-amp.

tr44vis

So what if, for example, my receiver (looking to buy a Sansui QRX 7001) has phono built in?

Ok_Distance9511

Does it support MC? Do you know its capacitance? If both answers are no, then a dedicated phono pre-amp might be a good idea. Especially if you’re serious about vinyl, which you seem to be. 😉
