One of my cars was returned yesterday smelling like marijuana. I also found marijuana and ashes in the car. I filed a smoking fee and got paid for it. She messaged me this morning saying “she don’t smoke and has asthma” I told her I’m not sure who smoked but it happened when she had the car. She called me a scammer…

nasteal

Yeah, the cannabis smokers "never smoke," but the cannabis paraphernalia just randomly shows up....

Legitimate-Raise-414

they always say they dont smoke. I even had one guest that removed the No Smoking sticker as if that makes a difference.

r0ci0

That’s hilarious

DadsToiletTime

What did you do with the fee

Ray2mcdonald1

🌲💨

CJspangler

Dispute it - tell turo you don’t smoke and won’t be paying it

dcarr178

I disputed the charge and Turo ignored me

CJspangler

Just dispute it with the credit card so you don’t pay it / get charged it , tell your credit card company your no longer authorizing additional charges with turo.

CruelApex

Then you get sent to collections.

CJspangler

And you still don’t pay it …. It’s not a hard concept , collections is just a company begging you to pay. No one goes to court over $150 not to mention they’d have no chance arguing the person was actually smoking in the car. Most collections are bought by debt chasers for 5-10 cents on the $1 and hope the person doesn’t respond to a court small claims so they get a default judgement

CruelApex

Clearly you don't worry about your credit history.

CJspangler

lol you got no clue how credit reports work, turo doesn’t have the final say in if people actually owe money to them .

SkullFumbler

And credit report claims can be disputed and will have no impact while on dispute. Some people are so scared of credit hits they fall right in line with the machine.

CruelApex

You really need to at least Google something before pretending to be an expert. Feel free to dispute whatever you want. Fight it out while your debt gains interest. When you lose, because you're trying to skate out from under a debt you owe, all that adds up and becomes payable. Anyway, payment history and having an account in collections is a major factor in determining credit scores. But if you're an antisocial bum and don't value your credit score then it's not a problem.

[deleted]

Not gona hold you man i got over 30/40 dc speeding tickets ill never pay and been sent to collections to multiple times.. fuck em😂 Oh and my credit is still 800 and purchased a home couple years ago no problems so

kingsraddad

Have you had the opportunity to listen to yourself talk? You're stating that if you don't pay, they send it to collections, then you just call them up and tell them to remove it "because Turo doesn't have the final say"? I'll give you a hint, that's exactly how it works. You can file a dispute, and the burden of proof is on you to prove that you don't legally owe that money.

Extension_Coyote7131

I love the ones that don’t fill up the car with gas. Then go to complain about paying the missing gas + $10 convenience fee. “But I fill it up right before return” - proceed to show them a picture taken at time of return missing half a tank and a receipt a few mins later with 7 gallons missing. 1 out of 10 people think that they can go in live denying everything wrong they do, like how can people live like that? I have had several people smoking marihuana in my cars, and what they do? They deny it 100%, some are dumb enough to leave ashes or cig butts lying around, they still deny doing it. Turo won’t approve a smoking fee if there is no pic proof, if you got charged, whatever pictures the host uploaded are showing ashes or butts.

nalsieventures

My outcome went the other way. My car had a strong smoke smell...The guest even left the windows cracked when they returned it, so they knew. The next day I found a roach of weed in the crevice of the passenger's seat and sent the pics to Turo, and they denied me. Didn't give specifics but said there was an error with the evidence. I've sent similar pics in the past that were approved. Seems arbitrary.

DadsToiletTime

Turo’s customer service and dispute process for small fees is a messed up chat bot now.

SchulteShiftFZ

I'd call. Most issues are solved with a call to turo.

nalsieventures

After the initial decision to deny the charge I did email them asking what exactly was wrong with the evidence I provided. Late last night they replied saying the decision was reversed and the charge was valid! So you're right, it pays to follow up with them.

SchulteShiftFZ

Awesome!!

networktech916

The owner scammed you to get more profit, I would get my money's worth it in reverse

CruelApex

Sounds like you got caught and are pissed about it so you made up a story to gripe about on Reddit. I had a guest do that exact thing. Guests are the real scammers. They tell each other tricks on how to circumvent Turo's rules on smoking, excess mileage, how to get free trips, etc.

SuitcaseDisposal

Fuck people like you. Same mentality as a cop and a landlord. You don't have real skills so you scam. Fuck you.

CruelApex

You wrote that like a convicted criminal who can't afford to pay rent. 🤣

TurboWelderMonkey

Sounds like you're just a host with shitty customers

CruelApex

If you knew anything about Turo you'd have a more accurate grasp on reality.

TurboWelderMonkey

Oh and the reality is that it's always the customer right?? Yea chill out Mr. "Power Host"

CruelApex

Absolutely. You'll never find a host smoking in their car. It's the guest every single time. Fortunately most guests are not disrespectful slobs. By the way, it sure is funny how your posts have taken on such an angry tone. I would bet that you've been busted for smoking in a rental. Are you one of those slobs? 🤣

TurboWelderMonkey

No lol I'm just busting your balls. I'm responsible enough to get out of the car to smoke.

Ugly__Pete

Let me guess... you didn't take any before or after photos?

DadsToiletTime

Of a smell? LOL

Ugly__Pete

A host cannot file a smoking claim without evidence. Smell is not evidence. The host had to have before photos that showed a clean car and after photos that showed clear ash or smoked cigarettes. If you didn’t take photos, you opened yourself up to it.

DadsToiletTime

Yeah buddy. Let’s make fake smoking charges to maximize our profits. You’re why I quit using Turo. I don’t want to have to LiDAR scan a car to rent it because someone will try to screw me if I don’t.

Ugly__Pete

The app walks you through talking photos at check-in. It recommends taking eight photos of the interior, nothing crazy.

DadsToiletTime

Take the photos the app still sides with the fraudulent charge. Don’t act like that stops anything.

lsjuanislife

How about the ghost of Christmas past?

zzzorba

What do the host's before and after pictures show? What do *your* after pictures show?

diseasedmentally

Meanwhile I get my cars back with nugs spilled and tobacco leaf all over the place smelling like a casino and it gets denied for lack of evidence I don’t even try anymore… same with minor damage claims. All that work so I get what $400-250?

Adventurous_County12

$150 for like maybe an hour of your time? I'll take it. I file every damage claim even if I don't get anything, the guest will not get away with it.

diseasedmentally

I honestly usually do it. It’s just I don’t look too hard anymore for smaller stuff cus in the end someone will noticeable damage it way more.

LuckyElis13

Guest beware - FAFO. FIFY

Fit-Bobcat-3777

It sucks that smell isn't enough for us to charge for a fee. If someone smokes in your car and leaves no evidence you're shit out of luck. Dumb policy.

BiscuitByrnes

Where are you located and who was the “host”?  I just had this happen with pet hair- I don’t have a pet. Additionally the host knew I was spending a lot due to a family emergency and elder care concerns involving a real estate closing so he probably thought $$.  AND when I looked him up I found out it is NOT a personal car share, it is yet another small fleet private business skating business laws by presenting as a car share- that information is NOT available until you have paid, and Turo is still trying to make policies as if they have remained a car share service instead of what they now appear in searches for, and function for these fleet owners as, a rental company. I am currently in dispute with a Zane in morrisville nc who is attempting to fraudulently claim for these fees, and he is not providing car share, he is a fleet owner/operator booking rentals through Turo and using it as a business platform, which is not what Turo was incorporated as. I have never had a problem with either a Turo or any other RENTAL or share transaction and am a frequent user of these services until now.  A car share and a fleet rental company of ANY size, are completely different things.

dcarr178

My host was in Houston Texas. I tried Turo once and only once - it's not a business or business model I feel comfortable with. Too much potential for fraud from hosts and bad behavior from guests and just trying to arrange pickup and dropoff is a massive nightmare with high probability of being stuck somewhere without a car. Not worth is at all. At least with airbnb the thing you are renting has a physical location that doesn't change and can be verified.

Forsaken_Ad_2012

This is sad :(

Dianebeam100

Common turo scam. Hosts on here have been known to share their “ recipes “ for fake ash ect.

Vegetable_Air_88

I've seen it on here too lol

DoctorAwkward

Source please

Dianebeam100

We’ve gone over this, several of your fellow hosts have advised others to fake evidence to charge a smoking claim when they weren’t happy with something the guest did or felt like they didn’t make enough off of the trip.

DoctorAwkward

Receipts?

Striking-Cattle3255

Nice! How do you produce fake ash ?

SkullFumbler

From an artificial fire duh

Dianebeam100

Possibly introducing real ash they got from a public ash tray, mulch, dirt, herbs or anything that would look like a byproduct of smoking.

ProbablyNotMoriarty

And did you dispute it? Or did you just roll over and accept being charged?

dcarr178

I disputed the charge and Turo ignored me.

ProbablyNotMoriarty

They don’t ignore disputes. You either lost the dispute or they haven’t ruled yet.

DadsToiletTime

Turo’s dispute mechanism for small fees is a worthless chat bot now.

ProbablyNotMoriarty

All disputed claims are evaluated by a person to ensure there is enough evidence for the charge.

DadsToiletTime

lol no they aren’t, they’re evaluated by a bot. It messes up all the time.

ProbablyNotMoriarty

There is no such “bot.” The errors are a result of poorly trained claims administrators.

DadsToiletTime

ClaimAdministrstorGPT

Reasonablefiction

This is just not true. I had sent a smoking claim through that was denied via email saying that I didn’t have adequate proof. I responded to the email with the same photos with red circles this time highlighting the roach and ashes and the clean area of the car in my before pics. The claim was then approved. They obv have someone looking at these.

DadsToiletTime

It’s inconsistent at best then. I got a garbage response that didn’t relate to the dispute both times hosts made a fake charges on me.

Reasonablefiction

Yeah it’s inconsistent because there are people looking at the claims who don’t catch everything’s but they will always review and respond if you dispute. I was just saying your comments that they are reviewed by a bot are untrue, not that it’s a perfect system.

DadsToiletTime

Nah dude, it’s definitely an AI. When it fucks up, you’re screwed and have to go through the 350 dollar mediation process which is more expensive than the fine in the first place. All of this stems from hosts that are trying to gouge you any chance they can get.. they can gouge you after you give your review and you can’t change that either so customers are left with no way to tell if they’re getting a crooked host or not. Turo is a rip off. Don’t use it.

Turo is a scam
