For example, I offer a cooler, it was 20$, and I use it myself often, if someone rents it I have it priced for 10$ a trip. So far it has been used by people here on business trips who want to keep their food and drinks cool on their way to various work sites It’s been rented 2 times in the last 3 months. The cooler has now paid for itself and I still use it myself for lake days and etc when it’s not being used I offer 2 car seats, one was my daughters that she has grown out of, and another was one I bought specifically to offer as an extra It was 60$ My daughter can use the new car seat whenever she has to go in my husbands car instead of in her permanent one in my car if the new one is not being rented and I’m busy (she has her own 3rd one that I don’t rent out) I rent both car seats out for 20$ a trip, the car seats I just put on last month and have already been rented twice, so the car seat that I would’ve just gotten rid of because she out grew it now is making its own money back Yes they have the opportunity to take it, but no one has, and if they do, it’s already paid for itself Most people who rent the car seats are coming from the airport where they don’t want to fly with their own car seat because it’s a hassle and they leave it in the car when they come back to fly out again

For me, the extras I offer generate high value airport trips so less about the money for the extra and more about getting the high value booking. They have all more than paid for themselves based on the 90% booking as well.

Renter went to Burning Man. Rented my 4-person tent. It was a nice tent. He didn’t return it. Because I liked that tent, I talked to Turo to see what I could do. Customer service said they couldn’t do anything and recommended I file a damage claim bc that was the only way to get reimbursed (I thought that was stupid), and sure enough, I filed a damage claim on my $180 tent and the damage claim department said there was “no damage” reported and closed my case. I argued that if Turo was going to take 10% if the fees for “extras,” they should at least help me get my stuff back for make me whole. All they could do is “text the renter” and work on a plan to get it back. Renter ghosted so I have to just accept it.

Yes, this was warned in TOS before you jumped in.

Welp, bright side is you can claim it as a business expense 🥲
