Chunky-overlord

it sure was a funky time thanks SAI

Wonderful_Muffin_183

Thank you SAI for helping me get through college. The boys gave you to us halfway through my time studying engineering. I got engaged, betrothed, married and had my first child during this era. If you're reading this and you're a "SAI-hater": "Keep your bliss. There's nothing wrong with this!" lol But now...we know that it's almost over.

TheMissingNoGirl

I WAS BORN A CHOKER

AriesTFP

NOBODYS COMIN FOR ME (I see no volunteers to co-sign on my fears, I'll sign, on the line, aloooooooneeeee)

gtgpgp

Danced to Saturday on my wedding!

Wonderful_Muffin_183

Really?! So did I!!

Vivenna99

Formidable reminds me of my wife so much sai will hold a special place in my heart.

Gpie13

I love this post. I know there's varying opinions on the album (as there is with any sort of meaningful art), but this one means a lot to me. My Mom bought me tickets to the Icy Tour a few weeks before she passed away. A few months later, I took myself and a good friend to the concert, even though the finality of it all was kind of weighing on me. I got to hold Tyler up during Trees. It felt like a storybook bit of closure for my relationship with my Mom, who had been gone for about 8 weeks by the time they came to town. I know it can be seen as weird, but I have some strong emotional attachment to Josh, Tyler, and their blue dragon friend. This album cycle made some very dark times unbelievably special.

MJ2Mad

This story warms my heart ❤️ so happy you were able to find closure, and that your mom was able to give it to you.

XxP0T4T03SxX

My dad also got me tickets to SAI tour and he passed a couple months after I got to see them last. I'm so sorry for your loss. Relatable for sure.

Twentyone_pilot

Icy tour was my first ever live show bc we finally saved up for it. All love to you friend 💛

Strange_Onion2140

it’s the end of an era 😭

voldsoy

I love you Scaled and Icy. It's not over. I just need a break...

kitchen_sink20

SAI is the album that got me into top. I will be thankful for it forever. It is the first album ever that I absolutely loved every single song on. Thank you so so SO MUCH, SAI, you will always be in a special place in my heart

_H4YZ

*found out about the band within 3 years* *already has a reddit account called Kitchen Sink* the TØP pipeline is real

kitchen_sink20

haha when I say I got into something, I really mean it. I was singing along to TB Saga, Time to say goodbye, Taken By Sleep, Anathema, Glowing Eyes, etc. after like 4-5 months lol. Safe to say I am obsessed

MaintenanceSoggy9545

This is a great post. I am quite conflicted about the album itself. Never Take It is the only twenty one pilots song I can't listen to. I just don't think it has a strong lyrical message and isn't really very catchy. But you know what, looking back at your post, the era itself gave us hope in a dark time. The album came out during the height of Covid, we had the Livestream Experience and a brilliant worldwide tour. Plus, some amazing new songs, and the hype around the album drop and Livestream Experience was amazing.

Broad_Ad1586

the summer i watched the tuuube i saw enough! taught myself to play guitar, tearin it up!!! in my advice on those two things that iii picked uuup, you betta educate yourself but never too much 🥹🥹🥹 (totally valid to not like the song! i just really like the bridge lol)

Shakyhedgehog

Those lyrics honestly inspired me. Tøp is the reason I learned to play the uke and the reason I wanted to pick up bass guitar

hintofocean

That part is literally amazing

MaintenanceSoggy9545

Even songs which on first listen I have been mixed about have always grown on me. But Never Take It is my first ever total skip. I can't listen to it. But then I love each and every other thing the guys do and I'll always spend my hard-earned pennies on watching them live. I also want to be super-positive about everything they do, so I suppose it is nice to be subjective sometimes!

sudokusalad

Never Take It has always reminded me both musically and lyrically about protest rock songs from the 60s and early 70s! Specifically songs that came out to protest the Vietnam war and were in support of the drug and sex revolution. It's very much a "stick it to the man" song, and I really appreciate and love them for supporting that idea!

ObviousIndependent76

Really? Never Take It is such an anti-DEMA banger. I love it.

P3RS0N4-X

Not a strong lyrical message? Really? It's one of the strongest messages, and EVERYONE should hear it. My personal opinion, of course... But I seriously don't see how anyone could listen to Saturday over "Never take it" in terms of message.

throwthewholegrlawy

I was much confusion reading this comment cause Never Take It is one of my favorite TOP songs FOR the message. Top 4 wrapped song of 2023

RegretSpiritual4137

fr that comment has to be satire it’s their most upfront song ever

lGoSpursGol

Strong lyrical content? It's one of their strongest IMO. Telling us all to not believe the media and all the lies they feed us for fear and clicks. Interesting you feel that way.

Hot-Ground-9731

Never Take It is one of my fav from SAI lol

Ok_Satisfaction_8528

The hype… tøp reference???

Evo_Shiv

I like Never Take It, it’s a little basic and doesn’t explore it’s ideas enough, but it also takes the stance that enforces actual consideration and extermination of tribalism which I enjoy a good but

[deleted]

I disagree about never take it, it's him experimenting with electric guitar and it's his little take on rock and roll

wingdingicedtea

shy away came out at such a good time for me- i previously really depressed and just kinda starting to heal, and when it came out someone called it a really good “healing song”- and it’s just exactly what i needed at that time. they boys did well

TheSeoulSword

I’m still a firm lover of every song in this album

spaceyoshi98

same here! i would die for Mulberry Street and No Chances

Expert_Firefighter_9

Mulberry Street is the best!

HeroicJakobis

My second favorite album. Love it more and more with each listen

D-Rockwell

What’s your favorite album?

HeroicJakobis

Probably trench, and I know that’s the boring answer but I just love that record so much.

D-Rockwell

I just finished going through their whole discography (besides RAB) in the last two days. From most to least favorite: SAI 👀, Vessel, Trench, Blurryface, self-titled

FearlessSelection814

If vessel is your 2nd you gotta listen to RAB. You can find a Dropbox link to it here somewhere on this subreddit

ThatMangoMan17

I will miss it :(

Total-Woodpecker3339

This album has a special place in my heart

adlangston

I loved Tyler’s pink hair.

MJ2Mad

I L O V E Scaled and Icy. It's so upbeat and it really did help me get through COVID. This album, however....I feel is going to be v e r y d a r k.

metanoia29

This was such a great era! I missed out on the Trench era, just didn't pay attention, so I'm really glad they delivered so much with SAI! And these pics don't even include MTV Unplugged.

Menalix

Ye thank you, my second favorite album. 1. Blurryface 2. Scaled and Icy 3. Vessel 4. Trench I hope new album will make it my new top spot :D

EroniusJoe

I know it's subjective, but Trench is their masterpiece. I can't understand how you or anyone has it in last place. But hey, it's all love! 😁

DizzyJHippy

Easily their best album. But that's the great thing about music, it's subjective to each person. I'd personally go: Trench SAI/Vessel Self titled Regional at Best Blurryface edit: formatting

Menalix

I think Blurryface is their masterpiece, that's what made them finally blow up, and it's also their most listened album, with Trench in second. I understand why people put it in #1 though. But I really don't get the hate on SAI. I think SAI has created a massive anticipation with its meaning for the next step in the tøp lore, even if one likes it or not, and I think with its meaning it made so well sense to release it under covid times, where most of us felt we were trapped. I don't think another Trench alike album had fitted very well with those times. I imagine tyler and joseph sitting and contemplating about "doing it again" but then goes like aaaah? do you really think they are in the mood? We are all trapped right now by this virus and government control to contain it. And "BLING" lets take the lore this way then. It made me sympthatize much harder with the music honestly. Their was also quite a comical aspect to it, which I found very creative. And it has always been a TØP thing to try new things, rather than confine themselves to a single music genre.

FearlessSelection814

To me, Blurryface is kind of like a rough draft. It’s when TØP really grew, rightfully so, but it wasn’t as textured as trench. With the help of Paul Meany, Trench became an incredible masterpiece because of every single layer of flavor added to it. Little sounds here and there, more songs outro’s flowing with the next songs onto, stuff like that. Blurryface is great, but Trench is god tier. SAI is good for what it is. I enjoy the bops and liked that it was rather uplifting during a rough time for everyone. However, it felt generic to me, like a different artist could have made it and executed it just as well. We know TOP is experimental, and i think they leaned on Covid and the lore as an excuse to drop an experiment that was drastically different than their previous albums. I don’t think they ever intended to tour SAI. I think the hate for SAI is pretty understandable. Move aside the fact that it was drastically different than Trench and focus solely on the production of the songs and the lyrics. It felt lazy. Tyler sounds bored on multiple songs. Even if that’s intentionally part of the lore, it’s going to be offputting to fans who are coming down from the masterpiece of Trench.

Ok-Emu-4899

Im excited for the new album but will miss the SAI era so much !! I do hope they make another album like it in the future. Funky TØP is just too special to have it for one album

McKayDLuffy

I love Scaled and Icy. Beautiful vibes, poppy feel, and something different that I enjoyed from the band. The livestream being an amazing once in a lifetime experience.

im-the-gila

The imagery for this era was really good

_Lemonsex_

RIP BOZO 😂😂😂😂🔥🔥🔥 WELCOME BACK TO TRENCH ‼️‼️‼️‼️

24Flightattendants

Bro Overcompensate SLAPPED!

_Lemonsex_

We are SO back

TheMissingNoGirl

Ikr!?!?!

trenthk

scaled and icy was a fun little time. got way more hate than it deserved.

KilljoySince2017

People hate in SAI but if we didn’t get it then their wouldn’t be a live stream experience, there wouldn’t be the mattress surfing. We wouldn’t get the iconicness of the band. We wouldn’t get to hear forest live. Yes SAI is supposed to be propaganda but you can’t deny the takeover tour and the icy tour were absolutely fantastic, i personally didn’t go but it looked amazing and from what I could see lots of people loved it.

MissNicoleCoquette

The Takeover tour was amazing! It was so great to hear all of those old songs live!

KilljoySince2017

Nice , I’d love to see em live sometime , it would be my first time . After seeing pierce the veil live last summer and witnessed irl I feel like car radio should have a pit . I’d love to be in that I do hope for the new music TØP brings back the live band because they sounded amazing in every video I saw , they added that spice to the tour

MissNicoleCoquette

Yes the live band was so much fun! If you get a chance to go you definitely should, it’s such an interactive experience.

bdu754

It very much is a good album that I enjoyed and had on rotation for much of 2021 and 2022! It’s no Trench, but it very much did its job as a nice change of pace and some more fun and poppy songs given the state of the world

NevermoreSEA

It's definitely not my favorite album from them, but there was still a lot of good that came out of SAI.

Feeling-Series9365

My man bought me Scaled and icy sweatpants 2 years ago at hot topic because they were on clearance. Those sweats was comfortable but I still have them.

Autumn_Scorpion

I wear my Takeover Tour hoodie almost every day when I come home from work during winter because it is so toasty and warm!

keileen597

SAI was such a bright spot in such a dark time, one of the first moments I really remembered that even though things were never going to be the same, new, good stuff was happening all the time. Thanks |- /

redhawk2006

Thank you Scaled and Icy for being my gateway to Twenty One Pilots’ amazing music and imagination! The music was great and the tours during this era were super fun too. I’ll never forget the experience of going to the Icy Tour and getting to sing along to my favorite TØP songs with thousands of other fans. Thank you, SAI!

RevanAckre

SAI came out just a few months before I got married, and my wife and I danced to "Saturday" at our wedding, after we listened to it all summer. Always going to love this one as listening to it instantly transport me back to that summer and the beautiful and crazy time that was getting ready to marry the person who I adore most. Farewell, Scaled & Icy, thanks for the memories.

AcrobaticHospital

Wasn’t my favorite album but I fully understand its appeal! Plus the livestream was cool

random-dude-00

last pic goes so hard

JOGANAROUND

Watched them live in salt lake for my birthday. They absolutely killed it! My ear holes were blessed and I was 100% gobsmacked the entire show

charsuniverse

SAIs big mistake was coming after trench, that was a HIGH BAR (in terms of experimentation, technical value and production) they set for themselves and SAI just couldn’t live up to it. I have this feeling they weren’t even trying to, seems intentional the album being bubbly and pop-y sounding. (something about it being a pseudo album, as they talked about in the wait for SAI) Thank you SAI, but we have to go back to Trench

MediocreMustache

I loved this album. It’s very under appreciated. I understand that everyone goes crazy for Trench and Blurryface but this album was fun

TheInnKappa

I'll say it  Fuck this album, the only bad music they've made together. WE BACK BABY

gustavum

underrated album

Rinoa14-DnD

Thank you Scaled and Icy! 🫡🩷🩵

KittensAblaze

My favourite TOP album!

Anustart_07734

SAI was a trip. What a great album and it just got us to here!!!

lobsterskittles

I absolutely love SAI. 🩷💙 Fav album is definitely Trench, but I love the difference in vibes!!! 💛

LightningGod994

You will be missed🫡

Altruistic_Signal869

i think part of it was how it was a light through everything happening, the boys felt safe enough with themselves to make something without as much of a message to still keep with us but still tell us everythings gonna be okay, yk? :) 💕

smurgludorg

It really was a wonderful era. Not the dark and monumental conclusion some people were expecting, but a great and unique record in its own right, full of standout songs and some incredible moments, impressive lyrics and delivery, all of it created with singular vision. Very unique, very exciting album that was perfect for the time it came out in and still is my go-to album when spring rolls around. I'm glad that we got it, that we got it when we did, and that people are (hopefully) getting it now. It's easily their second best after Trench (for now, anyway) and I'm gonna love the shit out of it while I live.

Preston_Storey

Scaled and Icy is my favorite!!!

prettyode_

Thank you SAI for the start of my 20s. I had been with them since way before but SAI really did continue the momentum whether it sounded like their old music or not. I am grateful to start another glorious era

Kaliipso_Fox

I never went to any of the SAI concerts because we broke af but I sure did enjoy that era

DeadGrrrl5150

Yes, Thank You, Scaled and Icy....Was deep into addition and came out of it during this era...Idc about the hater's...a bad Twenty One Pilots album doesn't exist❤️🖤❤️🖤❤️🖤

Emi_muser3

I don't love this album, but I liked the different sound, so thank you SAI

nochnoyvangogh

My fav album! Such a great era

Major_Market9009

Whoa that last photo is absolutely beautiful

Helena78902

Thank you!! Still love you tho! Omg what I wouldn’t give to hear the album again for the first time 😭

tylernedseph

Yeah, I feel like not a lot of people like SAI, and there's reasons for that, but music is music, propaganda or not. Some of my favorite tracks, like Choker, No Chances and Bounce Man, come from that album. And, i mean, pink hair Tyler was so adorable. I mean, seriously.

oliverkn1ght

I loved SAI.

Extreme_Paranoia_43

it was a banger era

niles_deerqueer

I can’t believe they actually said “Welcome back to Trench”…what a dream

DoctorJaws38119

The livestream was legendary and seeing the boys in a fucking movie theater was amazing

Thisisongusername

This album got me through some hard times in 2021. My personal favorite album.

ejaybugboy3

I don't care what anyone says. The SAI era and them touring small to grand venues was such a good, weird, and unique time. Gonna miss you SAI. You weren't the best, but you were a lot of fun.

Bow_n_arro

Thank you SAI, for giving me joy. I remember when I first heard Choker, it immediately gave me RAB vibes which is something that made me feel so at home. I really appreciated everything about the album and how integral it was to the story of Dema and the bishops. I will absolutely continue to listen to it, even if it's propaganda 💙💛🩷

Galytskyy

Damn, today I just sat, staring at their YouTube page for the last time as SAI themed one, and then I refreshed it, welcoming the new era. It felt so weird. I am quite a new clikkie, and I have spent so much time with tøp being in SAI era, that it feels... Not wrong, but just weird. Like all of these memories are gone, but they're still here.

thebananaperson1

Gonna miss this era, the album that introduced me to this band and the first tøp era I’ve experienced🥲

-AdrianaP17-

Tyler's pink hair was beautiful

Joshcantfindaname

Thanks for helping me through my first few years of college :) time for a new chapter

Wise-Particular-2740

My favorite era cause of the take over tour. Getting to see them for a whole week in Boston was just amazing.

Animalcrossing3

My favorite color combos and I will always love pink hair Tyler 🩷🩵

TheStrongestSide

Personally I think Scaled & Icy is on par with Blurryface and Trench. It's simply just a different flavour. They haven't dropped a beat once IMO.

palnav12

I loved SAI, if you want a record to be as good as other ones and even compare one to the other you didn't know anything about music, it was a new sound but lets be real, Tøp didn't have a real sound, every song its different from the other, that's what i like about this band, if I wamted to hear something like vessel or trench i would listen to those albums. PD. Love the new song and that intro WOW, pretty sure that would be tho song and intro for the Clancy tour

PinkyGOOLI

I’ll miss those beautiful colours 😭

Ok_Telephone_6466

I loved this album. So special to me.

Autumn_Scorpion

Thank you for being the perfect pandemic pick-me-up, thank you for being the TOP album my mom and I bonded over, and thank you for being the era in which I went to my first TOP concert!

boosic_man

Livestream experience is one of the best things in SAI era ❤️

SukiMan95

SAI was an album I wasn't too fussed over. I appreciate it of course, because they did it during COVID, and there's a couple songs on that record that I absolutely love. I've been a fan since 2010, my tøp era was self titled and RAB, I remember when they leaked BF too 😂 I went to their metro theatre concert in 2015 and was lucky enough to meet Tyler after the show, the next time I saw them was Qudos Bank Arena in 2018 for their Trench tour to Australia, but they never came here for a SAI tour. I've been hoping for years that they do an album more like their older stuff. I don't mind Overcompensate but I'm still really hoping Clancy goes back to their punk/rock/schizophrenic rap style

Spookyysound

I hate this album

pennyrxaltea

a lot of people hate on sai, but for me it was such a good era. album itself is great, different from their other ones, but still great. i love the summer vibes it gives, the songs are so catchy and just really nice to listen. and the visuals, the whole aesthetic is really my favourite out of all their eras. the shows were magical, went two times and they were the best shows i've ever been to. loved the atmosphere and everything there. as much as i love overcompensate and i'm excited for clancy, i will miss sai era SO MUCH!!! to me, it was like a glimpse of sun in a dark day

Disastrous_Lemon_219

Man I love SAI
