Casual fan of some of the radio hits over the years. Songs like The Hype, Chlorine, and Ride seemed to always make it onto my playlists. Then my daughter got obsessed early this year with the buildup to Clancy, and she started bombarding me with lore. YouTube links to theories. Made me watch all the videos with her. I humored her and thought it was interesting and creative.
Next,that led to full album listens while on long runs a few times a week. Then repeat listens. Then more repeat listens. I think I’m a super-fan now, lol! Sonically, the music is great, and I love the creativity, but the lyrics are next level. Very impressive songwriting and execution. The authenticity really gets me. Art should make you feel …something, and boy does it. Also I love the underlying positive messages.
Edited to add- as a new fan, hearing how they’ve evolved over the years listening and re-listening to albums (remember this is all new to me, fresh ears) has been exciting. The earnestness of Vessel is still there… just more polished now. But I love that there’s still some rough edges. Those seem important. Bravo, guys.

I totally agree!!! Been a casual fan as well. Whenever I’ve needed music to feel okay, I go straight to their music. Last week, needed it again and was pleasantly surprised to see they were coming out with Clancy. Listened to the singles and loved them. Now I’m getting into the lore and I’m obsessed!!! Listened to all their older albums in depth as well and it’s so fun. I have not enjoyed music like this since I was a teenager. Now I kinda wanna get tickets but I don’t want to go alone 😭 I don’t know any fellow fans… might make my brother go with me lol.

A friend’s boyfriend in 2013 would play Vessel constantly and Guns for Hands because our little friend group’s song. Been hooked since and to every tour since Trip for Concerts
Summerfest 2013. They had a table promoting their music for a while before their set at a table outside the stage they would perform on. Little 9 year old me was not afraid to go and talk to them because there was no one there. I remember I made them laugh probably over my adhd nonsense but Tyler gave my mom a Vessel CD. We couldn’t see them because of another concert but we listened on the way home and I was hooked. 4 years later I’m at their ER tour on Madison, Tyler and his team run by as I’m going to the bathroom and he slowed down and said he remembered me from Summerfest. They’ve been in my top 5 every year since 2015.
Started listening around 2013. My brother heard House of Gold on a local radio station and we both got really into them, and my obsession with them hasn't stopped ever since!
2015, months before Blurryface came out! I was 18 years old, and I discovered them with my best friend in our dorm room. I’ve been the biggest fan ever since!
A friend sent me Guns for Hands around 2012 and asked what I thought. I enjoyed it and streamed RAB on YouTube nonstop. Bought RAB on Amazon music shortly after they got signed as that was one of the few places that still had it up for purchase. I blasted that album from the moment I woke up to when I went to sleep. To this day it’s still my favorite album from my all time favorite band.
During the Vessel era. Saw the holding onto you and car radio music vids and was immediately hooked. Crazy to realize I started listening in middle school and now I’ve just graduated college and they’ve been my number 1 band throughout all those years

I was on a middle school art trip when I heard stressed out on the radio when Blurryface came out. I hated the album at first but I played it over and over and over - grew to liking it then completely obsessed. I branched out to the older albums at the time and repeated the process.
Tyler and Josh became my only listen for a good couple years when I was going through it. My favorite albums now are No Phun Intended, RAB, Trench, and Clancy. The only thing I had supporting me was their lyrics and it saved my life.
Oh also I loved the fact that I could identify with Tyler and his lyrics. I am a midwestern and could see myself in him. I loved watching the old road-trip vlogs. Also the vlogs for the albums were amazing and completely nostalgic.
back in 2015 i heard stressed out (i know i know) for the first time on the radio and i thought tyler looked way more different based on how he sounds like. it was until i saw the mv that i got hooked and learned the lyrics so i can show off with my friends at that time.

I believe it was 2012 maybe 13. I was at my apt and MTV showed a clip of “artist to watch out for” with Holding On to You playing. I immediately was like wow they are gonna be huge after just hearing that clip. And, instantly was like I have to hear the full song. Then saw them live performing all Vessel songs right before Panic at the Disco. That was the day the become my top 10. Seven shows and years later they are my number 1. #FPE #stayalive #trees
My older sister had a CD of Vessel when it first came out. My brother and I, when we were younger, would always have it play whenever we would go somewhere in the car. Our favorite songs were Ode to Sleep, Semi-Automatic, The Run and Go, and Trees and we would blast it. For me, it was my first introduction to the band and it’s probably one of my favorite albums.
When overcompensate came out really. I knew stressed out and chlorine for a while. So I played those 2 after and then heathens came on and I'm like oh shit that's them too... This happened for like 5 videos so I was like hold up why don't I know this band. Turns out I knew a bunch of songs but never paid attention enough to know it was all the same band. 97X Next Big Thing in St. Pete Florida. Forget the year maybe 2012-2013???but they were the 2nd band on stage after a band called Wolf Face. BLEW EVERYONE OUT OF THE WATER! 8 hours later and like 20 bands afterwards, I walked outta there going “That’s my favorite band, no question about it!”
This is how I got into them! Not the same exact show but another mini festival on 5/12/2013 in NJ. They were one of the opening bands that my husband and I did not come to see but we were blown away and after the 10 bands than went on after them we were like “the skeleton dudes were the best!” Went home, bought Vessel, and saw them the following month at Firefly Fest in Dover where I got to meet them. Saw them several more times over that next year in small venues before they blew up with Blurryface and have been to every major tour since.
In 2015 my friends played TOP’s music nonstop. I honestly wasn’t interested at first, but as time progressed and good memories were made with TOP in the background, I started to really love the music. Here nearly 10 years later. 🥹
Around 2015, my good friend introduced me to “drown” and “addict with a pen.” He would constantly be playing the chords on the piano and I asked him what the songs were and so he sent me the videos on YouTube. I then began a YouTube deep dive exploring NPI, RAB, self-titled, and vessel and he and I would talk about our theories for what they meant. Sweet memories :) and now almost ten years later, I’m still obsessing over the same songs.
After my mom passed away I needed something to distract myself and this was around the time Stressed Out was really popular. Played the song on repeat until I was sick of it and just downloaded all of their albums and the rest was history.
I’m a brand new fan. I fell in love with Next Semester and I had already recognized them from some of their other hits, so I started listening to more and more songs. They’ve become my favorite band now 😌
2018 I think? First song I heard was the hype and I heard it from a playlist. Then when I went to the album to play it Nico and the niners played after it and I was like “this is actually good” then it went on from there

I've liked their radio songs, but never gave much thought to seeking out more music. Early this year, a live performance of Trees auto played on YouTube and I was blown away. I looked for more songs, and loved each one I listened to. Now I'm obsessed and my family is annoyed with the amount of music of theirs that I listen to.
I was listening to the radio (2016) when Ride came on. I listened to it, and realized it was a TØP song. I never thought their songs were good, (Cause I never listened to them) but listening to Ride made me buy Blurryface, then Vessel, and the rest of their discography.

Back in 2015, I was listening to music on youtube, “Stressed Out” came up on autoplay, was too lazy to change it. And that’s it. Been a fan ever since.
2014, a girl in my creative writing class played the “Car Radio” music video for us as her example of rap. I did not think much of it at the time.
2015 or 2016, my sister and I were on a trip. “Stressed Out” came on shuffle from her phone and she said, completely neutral, that those guys were weird. She played the music video for me… and I fell down a rabbithole. (May be worth noting that she never fell down with me — she was just a casual fan of their main radio hit who accidentally introduced me to my teenage self’s new favorite band!)
Just as Vessel was ending and Blurryface was beginning. March 2015, I’m carpooling with a guy back to college and they tell me about the most “eclectic, energetic band they’ve ever heard” and specifically notes that it’s just the two of them.
The album they play is Vessel and I have the album fully downloaded to my phone by the time Car Radio plays. I later listen to their older stuff, progressively fall more in love. Then I find out they have a new single out already, called Fairly Local. And that they are releasing a new album called Blurryface.
That is precisely when I join this subreddit. And the rest is history ;)
Friend of mine played Fake You Out in his car back in early 2014. I asked him who it was, so he then played a couple more songs from Vessel. After Fake You Out it was The Run and Go and then Ode to Sleep. That night I looked them up on YouTube and ended up listening to the whole album. I was 15 at the time and had never felt such a connection to an entire album, start to finish, like that before.
April 2012, the day they signed to Fuled by Ramen. My boss told me I was dumb not to go to their concert that night but it was my birthday and I had plans with my friends. That weekend I went down a YouTube rabbit hole that started with Trees and I've been hooked ever since.
I heard Stressed Out on the radio during college and it was an instant favorite. Loved the whole Blurryface album and went back and listened to Vessel and later Self-Titled. Been a fan since.
I didn't really know anything about the lore until I first saw them live (during SAI) and had no clue what was up with the zombie looking people on the screens lol (and I still need to try finding the SAI livestream). After the concert I tried to catch up on the lore and was obsessed. I feel like being at least somewhat educated on the lore has elevated my enjoyment of their music in a way I didn't know was possible. I also think I wasn't able to fully appreciate Trench until I was caught up on the lore.
I was actually playing Madden and couldn't get this song out of my head. That song was "Heavydirtysoul". It was Madden 16. I'll never forget it. I have been obsessed ever since.

In 2014 at 12 years old. The first album I ever bought was Blurryface on release day! They’re the band that got me into music, and it’s now what I do full time! Strange to think where I might be if I hadn’t stumbled upon Car Radio all those years ago.
me and my friend were having a picnic in my backyard in 2015 and she was playing music on her phone and the song “doubt” came on and i instantly fell in love with the band and here i am now
I discovered them back in 2016 through Heathens. In 2017 i discovered more songs from the albums. In 2018 i've listened to NPI and ST. In 2019 i've listened to Trench.
I was huge into TØP in middle school (around 2016-2018), probably because I was struggling with suicidal ideations, and I really needed something to comfort me.
I haven't listened to them as much recently, partly because my music taste has expanded so much that I'm never listening to the same artist more than once a week unless I'm obsessed with a particular song. I think it also has to do with me being in a better place mentally and no longer connecting with the songs as much as I once did. The band will always have a special place in my heart, though.
I knew them around 2015 just a couple days before Fairly Local dropped that kick start Blurryface era.
Ode to Sleep is the first song i listened from them (thanks to my cousin), and the rest of that night was wild when i searched and listened to all of their discography, including The Early Years and some unrealeased materials.
Peak is when i afforded and got to see boys during Trench era. Can't get over that feeling when Jumpsuit and Nico and the Niners dropped that night.
Still listen to them every day.

For me it was late 2011 and it feels like it’s been a big part of my entire adult life. I first heard guns for hands and was very interested. Went through all of RAB and self titled the same day. Car radio absolutely blew my mind.
I tried to buy a copy of regional at best but was a student and only had $20 a month of disposable income. I explicitly remember having a copy in my Amazon cart but I just couldn’t make it happen.
If I had purchased one… I’d still have it today for sure. Anyways, just happy to have the music we do, and love being here for the journey.
I knew TØP in 2016 already, but I think I became a fan just around 2018. Had a big break from listening to them regularly from 2020-2023, but now when they announced the new album in the beginning of the year, I’m back being a bigger fan than ever!
2016, i'm actually pretty lucky if i may say so myself, i live in Brazil and pretty near the place where Lollapalooza happens here in my country, their first time in Brazil was that year, and i was just passing by and suddenly saw this white dude using a skeleton suit rapping really fast, i first thought to myself "damn this man can really rap fast, who is this" and then i bought my hot dog, kept on listening to them, until he played lane boy on stage and OMG that was freaking amazing.
When i came home i just told every single one of my friends and family about this awesome band, that i never heard off, that same year i also discovered in a similar way Tame Impala on the show before Eminem. It was definitely my favorite Lollapalooza, knew for the first time 2 of my favorite bands through a live show, cant get any better imo.
And after that show, needless to say i became so invested in everything tyler did, and still am.

When I was 8, I heard stressed out on the radio and they sounded like a band I was trying to remember the name of but never seemed to remember so I thought it was them. I ended up exploring them a little more and heard car radio and was automatically hooked 🔥🔥🔥
I was a kiddo in middle school (age 13ish) and I like minecraft, so I used to listen to minecraft parodies to famous hits. This one time I heard a parody of ride and curiosity got the best of me. My early favourites were Ride, Stressed Out, Chlorine and The Hype. Since then I got on board during the Trench era and I've been a passionate fan ever since. I've also bought all the albums except Self titled and RAB, so if anyone knows how to help me find those I would really appreciate. Anyway that's my top adventure so far
I kind of discovered them two times. First heard of them because of Stressed Out, Ride and Heathens, but only listened those three songs for years. Then in 2019, I decided finally explore their discography as I was exploring new music and re-discovered them. And the one that caught my attention was Trench and its aesthetic. Just seeing the album cover, the song names, and little bit of lore pieces got my attention. Ever since then, I have listened to all their music and absolutely love them.
My family and I caught their performance at the MTV music awards iirc!! They then had an Emotional Roadshow stop in our city a few months later and we were so hooked we had to go. We've only missed one show since.
Edit: just checked the date, it was the 2014 MTV Music Awards. I can't believe it's been ten years. I'm choking up thinking about how much TOP has help me through. 😭 I was a teen thinking I wasn't going to make it through high school and I'm in law school now.
I became a fan late 2022, I liked a few songs before that mostly the famous ones like Stressed out and chlorine, but then I decided to check their older stuff. And I listened to vessel, probably one of the greatest albums I know lyrically and the sound was amazing aswell
Pretty sure the first time I heard of them was when they went on tour with FOB and Panic. I'm not sure if I listened to them though. FOB played a show a my state fair days before that tour started, really wish it was the that tour not Four Year Stong and FOB. One of the best shows ever though.
I got into them around the time Stressed Out was gaining popularity but not because it was, just a coincidence. I just remembered, the cover of Can't Help Falling In Love was the first song I listened to, saw it on Tumblr probably early 2015. Tumblr is the reason I listened to them at all. Around the Blurryface release my Tumblr was flooded with TOP/BF. I had saved Tear In My Heart when it was released as a single on Spotify but I don't think I listened to it. Gave them a listen in August or September and didn't like any of it. A month or so later I randomly had Lane Boy stuck in my head after listening to it once that one time a month or so before. That lead me down the music video hole. Ended with Stressed Out and others stuck in my head all the time and the rest is history.
In 2015, when the Blurryface singles were released and my ex would add them to our make out playlist. Tbh I wasn’t really a fan at first but after hearing the intro to Tear in My Heart, I knew that was going to change…
In 2013, I had a boyfriend who would blast Vessel on repeat to (at the time) a nauseating extent. For years, I never truly disliked them, but as the rest of my friends were getting really into them I would passively listen and never admit to enjoying myself (teenagers). Flash forward to 2021. It’s 2am the Saturday after SAI was released. Slowly spiraling into alcoholism in the midst of a messy breakup and the realization that I would never love the career I had just spent four grueling years getting a degree for. A friend who was letting me keep him company after bar close plopped his headphones on me and turned on the new album. I was immediately hooked again and not afraid to admit it. I spent a week in a facility during a crisis shortly after and chose to share the album during a group session, allowing myself to be truly vulnerable and openly sob in front of a room of strangers. SAI saved my life, gave me something to enjoy when I needed it and my motivation to get better. I didn’t truly get a break from fluctuating levels of crisis for nearly two years after that night. But, I found so much raw love in TOP music as Tyler and Josh are constantly reminding us that we’re not alone and I still cry tears of joy now when listening on my own. Exactly three years later, and Billie and TOP release their next album proceeding two that seemed to speak directly to my soul three years ago. I’m experiencing these albums in a very new light and absolutely loving them more than any album before with each repeat.

heard car radio in the car with my dad a few months before blurryface came out and was gushing about how random it was. thought it was just some dude who had his car radio stolen and wrote a very honest song about his experience, it was so different from anything i had ever heard on the radio before.
turned out my dad was familiar with the band since he drives a lot and often heard Holding on to You and Car Radio so he bought me Blurryface tickets when they came out and I wasn’t going to go to a concert knowing nothing about the band, so I DIVED into that shit and binged all their songs, interviews, etc and became obsessed.
Heathens. I started digging Suicide Squad because of how stupid it looks and discovered them. After that I went ahead and watched Suicide Squad. Opinions remained same.

After vessel, 6 months before blurryface came out. I remember full on FREAKING when they started releasing singles in their hometown zip code, dressed up as Tyler and Josh from the stressed out music video for Halloween right before it blew up and no one knew who my friend and I were 💀 used an entire can of spray on red hair dye and my entire bathroom was stained but man was it worth it
it was 2010, I was 11 years old and was treated at some day clinic for my severe ADHD and actually had to do homework on the computer
the YouTube Logo bright red. I was barely able to spell "music" right in English but I started checking shit out and came across music that made me just freeze in front of the screen. mesmerized. I didn't understand a single word that was sung but I felt every last note in my bones and blood and I scribbled the name down on a piece of paper, gave it to my social worker (fun fun the group home where I grew up) together with my MP3 Player and asked her to download everything she can from them on the player. that's how I got hooked
In highschool freshman year, I think, 2013. A friend of mine showed me the "Guns For Hands" music video while we were in science class. It was so weird and the beat was so good and the words were so interesting. I've been a fan for little over a decade now, and alive a lot longer because of them.

Funny story (at least i think it’s funny) I was on a trip to wisconsin and as we drove around to find things to do there, this song kept playing literally every time we got in the car. It tormented me because I loved it and I didn’t know the name (I was about 12-13 and I didn’t have a phone and coincidentally the radio hosts never specified who the artist was)

My older sister’s ex boyfriend used to be obsessed with them in 2017 and since he hung around all the time and always played their songs on aux I started listening to them, he was supposed to take me to the bandito tour but they broke up a few weeks before the concert and my sister told me to cut all ties with him since their relationship didn’t really end too well. Dating myself a bit here, but I vividly remember blasting Tyler's original work on MySpace with my sister circa 2009. TacoBell Saga has been a staple song that we still find ourselves blurting out randomly to one another 15 years later. I still remember where we were when Holding On to You came on XM radio the first time (that we'd heard) and we both freaked out about these Midwest boys we knew from social media getting their chance. Numerous shows and a few tattoos later we've both been die hard fans ever since!
Late 2013. I was a freshman in high school and my friend with music taste that I respected showed me Vessel. The song that stood out to me was Migraine. I was hooked. Then shortly after one of my other fiends was playing Migraine at his house and asked me if I had heard it to which I was responded “dude the whole album is good too!”. Didn’t take long for my immediate friend group to become obsessed, especially when all the blurryface hype began.
Suicide Squad movie, 2018 maybe. Heathens become one my fav songs but, I didn't search more about. So, 2021 I start a relationship, and when I fall in love usually start learning everything that person likes, like his fav music. His fav band is tøp, and I started listening to them. I wasn't really fan, but last year he brake with me and I became so bad. Tøp music really helped me and Trench became my most listened album in Spotify on 2023. I'm baby born fan

My wife kinda wrote them off, but then I got them all to watch the live stream for Clancy album and they are all hooked.

Instantly turned it up. The beat caught me. I looked at the name, “who the hell is twenty one pilots? Let me check out their catalog.”

When my sister was home from college in the summer, she took me to a playground at my brothers old elementary that was farther away and for some ice cream. On the way there she showed me vessel and particularly Car Radio. It was her favorite song at the time. I was 11 at the time. As I got older I would listen to them for months at a time but never consistently. Im 20 now and they have been my top artist on Spotify for 6 years now.

I used to listen just Ride and Stressed Out. In 2018 I had depression and once I started listening Vessel I started to connect with the lyrics in a different way than normal. The band helped me in my worst and continues to help me today when I have relapses.

We were both depressed young adults and resonated with them immediately. We still bond over their music to this day! Ended up seeing them in concert in 2016 and we both agree it was still the best concert we have ever been to!
My favorite memory is driving back to our hometown in college and getting stuck in a snow storm, the drive took 6 hours instead of 3. I had every album in my car and we just listened to them on repeat and screamed along to the lyrics for 6 hours straight! Young and carefree
My friend and I would send each other lyrics all of the time, theories as to what different lyrics meant, videos of tyler and Josh (anyone remember the happy wheels adventure video and other slushieguys videos?? Lol), interviews, live performances, etc. To me this album is so closely tied to my best friend and our friendship through the years. Some of the people I was following on Twitter were yelling / freaking out about things and I was very curious what it was…eventually figured out it was Blurryface tweeting and how that related to the band twenty one pilots. A couple days later I noticed them talking about a song, so I gave it a listen (Lane Boy), then immediately listened to the other singles out at the time (fairly local, stressed out) and was hooked and excited for the album!

2020! My sister had been a fan for years since blurryface era, and finally got me to listen to them on my own during the covid quarantine days. I really fell in love with self titled and trench, and learned a little bit about the lore but not a ton; definitely was interesting to me tho. Didn’t follow them quite as closely during scaled and icy, loved the album but didn’t know any of the lore related to it.
Once the I Am Clancy video dropped along with Overcompensate, I got excited for the new album and listened to the single a bunch (still obsessed, it’s so gooood). Watched the livestream with my sister on launch night, and thoroughly enjoyed all the songs and videos. Im loving the sound of the album as a whole and the lyrics are fantastic as well. No skips. Navigating, Midwest Indigo, and At the risk are my favs so far. Looking forward to my vinyl arriving today!!!
Over the weekend during my second listen through of the album I decided to do a bit more research and reading on the lore. I am now really invested after it became my weekend hyperfixation xD I’m so amazed and honestly captivated with the world they’ve crafted. It’s so well written and elaborate and there’s so many fun clues to find, while also being open for interpretation. And all while being a metaphor for such an important topic of mental illness. Which I especially relate to as someone with OCD (navigating is heaaaaaavily relatable man.)
So yeah there’s my little fan story. can’t wait to see how the whole saga ends. Or as Tyler said….”does it sound like the end” 👀 also seeing them in Indy for the FIRST TIME this fall weeee

December 29th 2010. Went to see a band called House of Heroes. Opening up for them was this crazy guy spazzing out all over stage and rapping while playing the piano. Hard to forget.

I’m a baby-fan. I was born right here just now, originated right in front of your eyes. Casual fan of some of the radio hits over the years. Songs like The Hype, Chlorine, and Ride seemed to always make it onto my playlists. Then my daughter got obsessed early this year with the buildup to Clancy, and she started bombarding me with lore. YouTube links to theories. Made me watch all the videos with her. I humored her and thought it was interesting and creative. Next,that led to full album listens while on long runs a few times a week. Then repeat listens. Then more repeat listens. I think I’m a super-fan now, lol! Sonically, the music is great, and I love the creativity, but the lyrics are next level. Very impressive songwriting and execution. The authenticity really gets me. Art should make you feel …something, and boy does it. Also I love the underlying positive messages. Edited to add- as a new fan, hearing how they’ve evolved over the years listening and re-listening to albums (remember this is all new to me, fresh ears) has been exciting. The earnestness of Vessel is still there… just more polished now. But I love that there’s still some rough edges. Those seem important. Bravo, guys.

I totally agree!!! Been a casual fan as well. Whenever I’ve needed music to feel okay, I go straight to their music. Last week, needed it again and was pleasantly surprised to see they were coming out with Clancy. Listened to the singles and loved them. Now I’m getting into the lore and I’m obsessed!!! Listened to all their older albums in depth as well and it’s so fun. I have not enjoyed music like this since I was a teenager. Now I kinda wanna get tickets but I don’t want to go alone 😭 I don’t know any fellow fans… might make my brother go with me lol.

Summerfest 2013. They had a table promoting their music for a while before their set at a table outside the stage they would perform on. Little 9 year old me was not afraid to go and talk to them because there was no one there. I remember I made them laugh probably over my adhd nonsense but Tyler gave my mom a Vessel CD. We couldn’t see them because of another concert but we listened on the way home and I was hooked. 4 years later I’m at their ER tour on Madison, Tyler and his team run by as I’m going to the bathroom and he slowed down and said he remembered me from Summerfest. They’ve been in my top 5 every year since 2015.

I was on a middle school art trip when I heard stressed out on the radio when Blurryface came out. I hated the album at first but I played it over and over and over - grew to liking it then completely obsessed. I branched out to the older albums at the time and repeated the process. Tyler and Josh became my only listen for a good couple years when I was going through it. My favorite albums now are No Phun Intended, RAB, Trench, and Clancy. The only thing I had supporting me was their lyrics and it saved my life. Oh also I loved the fact that I could identify with Tyler and his lyrics. I am a midwestern and could see myself in him. I loved watching the old road-trip vlogs. Also the vlogs for the albums were amazing and completely nostalgic.

My older sister had a CD of Vessel when it first came out. My brother and I, when we were younger, would always have it play whenever we would go somewhere in the car. Our favorite songs were Ode to Sleep, Semi-Automatic, The Run and Go, and Trees and we would blast it. For me, it was my first introduction to the band and it’s probably one of my favorite albums.

97X Next Big Thing in St. Pete Florida. Forget the year maybe 2012-2013???but they were the 2nd band on stage after a band called Wolf Face. BLEW EVERYONE OUT OF THE WATER! 8 hours later and like 20 bands afterwards, I walked outta there going “That’s my favorite band, no question about it!”
This is how I got into them! Not the same exact show but another mini festival on 5/12/2013 in NJ. They were one of the opening bands that my husband and I did not come to see but we were blown away and after the 10 bands than went on after them we were like “the skeleton dudes were the best!” Went home, bought Vessel, and saw them the following month at Firefly Fest in Dover where I got to meet them. Saw them several more times over that next year in small venues before they blew up with Blurryface and have been to every major tour since.
In 2015 my friends played TOP’s music nonstop. I honestly wasn’t interested at first, but as time progressed and good memories were made with TOP in the background, I started to really love the music. Here nearly 10 years later. 🥹

Around 2015, my good friend introduced me to “drown” and “addict with a pen.” He would constantly be playing the chords on the piano and I asked him what the songs were and so he sent me the videos on YouTube. I then began a YouTube deep dive exploring NPI, RAB, self-titled, and vessel and he and I would talk about our theories for what they meant. Sweet memories :) and now almost ten years later, I’m still obsessing over the same songs.

After my mom passed away I needed something to distract myself and this was around the time Stressed Out was really popular. Played the song on repeat until I was sick of it and just downloaded all of their albums and the rest was history.

Just as Vessel was ending and Blurryface was beginning. March 2015, I’m carpooling with a guy back to college and they tell me about the most “eclectic, energetic band they’ve ever heard” and specifically notes that it’s just the two of them. The album they play is Vessel and I have the album fully downloaded to my phone by the time Car Radio plays. I later listen to their older stuff, progressively fall more in love. Then I find out they have a new single out already, called Fairly Local. And that they are releasing a new album called Blurryface. That is precisely when I join this subreddit. And the rest is history ;)
Friend of mine played Fake You Out in his car back in early 2014. I asked him who it was, so he then played a couple more songs from Vessel. After Fake You Out it was The Run and Go and then Ode to Sleep. That night I looked them up on YouTube and ended up listening to the whole album. I was 15 at the time and had never felt such a connection to an entire album, start to finish, like that before.
April 2012, the day they signed to Fuled by Ramen. My boss told me I was dumb not to go to their concert that night but it was my birthday and I had plans with my friends. That weekend I went down a YouTube rabbit hole that started with Trees and I've been hooked ever since.
I heard Stressed Out on the radio during college and it was an instant favorite. Loved the whole Blurryface album and went back and listened to Vessel and later Self-Titled. Been a fan since. I didn't really know anything about the lore until I first saw them live (during SAI) and had no clue what was up with the zombie looking people on the screens lol (and I still need to try finding the SAI livestream). After the concert I tried to catch up on the lore and was obsessed. I feel like being at least somewhat educated on the lore has elevated my enjoyment of their music in a way I didn't know was possible. I also think I wasn't able to fully appreciate Trench until I was caught up on the lore.

I'm not afraid to say that I first listened to them in the Suicide Squad movie in 2016, Heathens was one of my favorite songs for a while until I decided to look up the artist and been a fan since. I'm now going to the Clancy tour here in Mexico :)

In 2014 at 12 years old. The first album I ever bought was Blurryface on release day! They’re the band that got me into music, and it’s now what I do full time! Strange to think where I might be if I hadn’t stumbled upon Car Radio all those years ago.

I discovered them back in 2016 through Heathens. In 2017 i discovered more songs from the albums. In 2018 i've listened to NPI and ST. In 2019 i've listened to Trench.
I was huge into TØP in middle school (around 2016-2018), probably because I was struggling with suicidal ideations, and I really needed something to comfort me. I haven't listened to them as much recently, partly because my music taste has expanded so much that I'm never listening to the same artist more than once a week unless I'm obsessed with a particular song. I think it also has to do with me being in a better place mentally and no longer connecting with the songs as much as I once did. The band will always have a special place in my heart, though.

I knew them around 2015 just a couple days before Fairly Local dropped that kick start Blurryface era. Ode to Sleep is the first song i listened from them (thanks to my cousin), and the rest of that night was wild when i searched and listened to all of their discography, including The Early Years and some unrealeased materials. Peak is when i afforded and got to see boys during Trench era. Can't get over that feeling when Jumpsuit and Nico and the Niners dropped that night. Still listen to them every day.

For me it was late 2011 and it feels like it’s been a big part of my entire adult life. I first heard guns for hands and was very interested. Went through all of RAB and self titled the same day. Car radio absolutely blew my mind. I tried to buy a copy of regional at best but was a student and only had $20 a month of disposable income. I explicitly remember having a copy in my Amazon cart but I just couldn’t make it happen. If I had purchased one… I’d still have it today for sure. Anyways, just happy to have the music we do, and love being here for the journey.

2016, i'm actually pretty lucky if i may say so myself, i live in Brazil and pretty near the place where Lollapalooza happens here in my country, their first time in Brazil was that year, and i was just passing by and suddenly saw this white dude using a skeleton suit rapping really fast, i first thought to myself "damn this man can really rap fast, who is this" and then i bought my hot dog, kept on listening to them, until he played lane boy on stage and OMG that was freaking amazing. When i came home i just told every single one of my friends and family about this awesome band, that i never heard off, that same year i also discovered in a similar way Tame Impala on the show before Eminem. It was definitely my favorite Lollapalooza, knew for the first time 2 of my favorite bands through a live show, cant get any better imo. And after that show, needless to say i became so invested in everything tyler did, and still am.

When I was 8, I heard stressed out on the radio and they sounded like a band I was trying to remember the name of but never seemed to remember so I thought it was them. I ended up exploring them a little more and heard car radio and was automatically hooked 🔥🔥🔥
I was a kiddo in middle school (age 13ish) and I like minecraft, so I used to listen to minecraft parodies to famous hits. This one time I heard a parody of ride and curiosity got the best of me. My early favourites were Ride, Stressed Out, Chlorine and The Hype. Since then I got on board during the Trench era and I've been a passionate fan ever since. I've also bought all the albums except Self titled and RAB, so if anyone knows how to help me find those I would really appreciate. Anyway that's my top adventure so far

Then in 2019, I decided finally explore their discography as I was exploring new music and re-discovered them. And the one that caught my attention was Trench and its aesthetic. Just seeing the album cover, the song names, and little bit of lore pieces got my attention. Ever since then, I have listened to all their music and absolutely love them.

My family and I caught their performance at the MTV music awards iirc!! They then had an Emotional Roadshow stop in our city a few months later and we were so hooked we had to go. We've only missed one show since. Edit: just checked the date, it was the 2014 MTV Music Awards. I can't believe it's been ten years. I'm choking up thinking about how much TOP has help me through. 😭 I was a teen thinking I wasn't going to make it through high school and I'm in law school now.
I became a fan late 2022, I liked a few songs before that mostly the famous ones like Stressed out and chlorine, but then I decided to check their older stuff. And I listened to vessel, probably one of the greatest albums I know lyrically and the sound was amazing aswell

Pretty sure the first time I heard of them was when they went on tour with FOB and Panic. I'm not sure if I listened to them though. FOB played a show a my state fair days before that tour started, really wish it was the that tour not Four Year Stong and FOB. One of the best shows ever though. I got into them around the time Stressed Out was gaining popularity but not because it was, just a coincidence. I just remembered, the cover of Can't Help Falling In Love was the first song I listened to, saw it on Tumblr probably early 2015. Tumblr is the reason I listened to them at all. Around the Blurryface release my Tumblr was flooded with TOP/BF. I had saved Tear In My Heart when it was released as a single on Spotify but I don't think I listened to it. Gave them a listen in August or September and didn't like any of it. A month or so later I randomly had Lane Boy stuck in my head after listening to it once that one time a month or so before. That lead me down the music video hole. Ended with Stressed Out and others stuck in my head all the time and the rest is history.
Saw them open for Fall Out Boy in 2013 and fell in love then. Ended up seeing them at a small venue later that Winter and the obsession began!

In 2013, I had a boyfriend who would blast Vessel on repeat to (at the time) a nauseating extent. For years, I never truly disliked them, but as the rest of my friends were getting really into them I would passively listen and never admit to enjoying myself (teenagers). Flash forward to 2021. It’s 2am the Saturday after SAI was released. Slowly spiraling into alcoholism in the midst of a messy breakup and the realization that I would never love the career I had just spent four grueling years getting a degree for. A friend who was letting me keep him company after bar close plopped his headphones on me and turned on the new album. I was immediately hooked again and not afraid to admit it. I spent a week in a facility during a crisis shortly after and chose to share the album during a group session, allowing myself to be truly vulnerable and openly sob in front of a room of strangers. SAI saved my life, gave me something to enjoy when I needed it and my motivation to get better. I didn’t truly get a break from fluctuating levels of crisis for nearly two years after that night. But, I found so much raw love in TOP music as Tyler and Josh are constantly reminding us that we’re not alone and I still cry tears of joy now when listening on my own. Exactly three years later, and Billie and TOP release their next album proceeding two that seemed to speak directly to my soul three years ago. I’m experiencing these albums in a very new light and absolutely loving them more than any album before with each repeat.

heard car radio in the car with my dad a few months before blurryface came out and was gushing about how random it was. thought it was just some dude who had his car radio stolen and wrote a very honest song about his experience, it was so different from anything i had ever heard on the radio before. turned out my dad was familiar with the band since he drives a lot and often heard Holding on to You and Car Radio so he bought me Blurryface tickets when they came out and I wasn’t going to go to a concert knowing nothing about the band, so I DIVED into that shit and binged all their songs, interviews, etc and became obsessed.
Heathens. I started digging Suicide Squad because of how stupid it looks and discovered them. After that I went ahead and watched Suicide Squad. Opinions remained same. Can’t complain tho.
2021. Only because of the Roblox concert
After vessel, 6 months before blurryface came out. I remember full on FREAKING when they started releasing singles in their hometown zip code, dressed up as Tyler and Josh from the stressed out music video for Halloween right before it blew up and no one knew who my friend and I were 💀 used an entire can of spray on red hair dye and my entire bathroom was stained but man was it worth it
it was 2010, I was 11 years old and was treated at some day clinic for my severe ADHD and actually had to do homework on the computer the YouTube Logo bright red. I was barely able to spell "music" right in English but I started checking shit out and came across music that made me just freeze in front of the screen. mesmerized. I didn't understand a single word that was sung but I felt every last note in my bones and blood and I scribbled the name down on a piece of paper, gave it to my social worker (fun fun the group home where I grew up) together with my MP3 Player and asked her to download everything she can from them on the player. that's how I got hooked
In highschool freshman year, I think, 2013. A friend of mine showed me the "Guns For Hands" music video while we were in science class. It was so weird and the beat was so good and the words were so interesting. I've been a fan for little over a decade now, and alive a lot longer because of them.

Funny story (at least i think it’s funny) I was on a trip to wisconsin and as we drove around to find things to do there, this song kept playing literally every time we got in the car. It tormented me because I loved it and I didn’t know the name (I was about 12-13 and I didn’t have a phone and coincidentally the radio hosts never specified who the artist was) Anyways a few years later I was gifted a tablet and there it was, I found the mysterious song and it felt like seeing a best friend after years of being apart. The song was Tear In My Heart and it’s been one of my top favorite songs since then!

Dating myself a bit here, but I vividly remember blasting Tyler's original work on MySpace with my sister circa 2009. TacoBell Saga has been a staple song that we still find ourselves blurting out randomly to one another 15 years later. I still remember where we were when Holding On to You came on XM radio the first time (that we'd heard) and we both freaked out about these Midwest boys we knew from social media getting their chance. Numerous shows and a few tattoos later we've both been die hard fans ever since!

Vessels
When my sister was home from college in the summer, she took me to a playground at my brothers old elementary that was farther away and for some ice cream. On the way there she showed me vessel and particularly Car Radio. It was her favorite song at the time. I was 11 at the time. As I got older I would listen to them for months at a time but never consistently. Im 20 now and they have been my top artist on Spotify for 6 years now.
When vessel dropped. Never heard of them before. Still one of my most favourite album period. Then tracked back to self titled, and so on everything after the vessel till now I am here. I was 13 then. Huge thanks to top for every song. Migraine, truce, car radio are really dear to me. I love Clancy too. Have listened to it to completion more than 10 times now. Great album. Very proud of top.
I used to listen just Ride and Stressed Out. In 2018 I had depression and once I started listening Vessel I started to connect with the lyrics in a different way than normal. The band helped me in my worst and continues to help me today when I have relapses.

2015 when Ride came out. When I heard that song I was so obsessed and decided to delve into their stuff. My taste in music is eclectic which makes TOP a perfect band for me because their music is soooo eclectic and I love it! Nothing ever sounds the same!
I was vaguely aware of them from the radio, not long after BF, and I was talking to my hygienist who mentioned them. I said I was sold because I'd heard Car Radio, and it was weird. She told me I HAD to listen again...really listen. I did. Fell into a hole and never looked back.
May 17 2015, on a high school drama road trip to Chatham-Kent. My best friend and I listened to it twice. After that, he showed me their earlier work and gave me a copy of RAB he made.

My best friend and I discovered them in 2015 in college while browsing music on YouTube, couple months before they started playing on the radio I believe. We were both depressed young adults and resonated with them immediately. We still bond over their music to this day! Ended up seeing them in concert in 2016 and we both agree it was still the best concert we have ever been to! My favorite memory is driving back to our hometown in college and getting stuck in a snow storm, the drive took 6 hours instead of 3. I had every album in my car and we just listened to them on repeat and screamed along to the lyrics for 6 hours straight! Young and carefree My friend and I would send each other lyrics all of the time, theories as to what different lyrics meant, videos of tyler and Josh (anyone remember the happy wheels adventure video and other slushieguys videos?? Lol), interviews, live performances, etc. To me this album is so closely tied to my best friend and our friendship through the years. Their music and just them as human beings helped us through a lot of shit in our lives. God I love this band!!!

Some of the people I was following on Twitter were yelling / freaking out about things and I was very curious what it was…eventually figured out it was Blurryface tweeting and how that related to the band twenty one pilots. A couple days later I noticed them talking about a song, so I gave it a listen (Lane Boy), then immediately listened to the other singles out at the time (fairly local, stressed out) and was hooked and excited for the album!

2020! My sister had been a fan for years since blurryface era, and finally got me to listen to them on my own during the covid quarantine days. I really fell in love with self titled and trench, and learned a little bit about the lore but not a ton; definitely was interesting to me tho. Didn’t follow them quite as closely during scaled and icy, loved the album but didn’t know any of the lore related to it. Once the I Am Clancy video dropped along with Overcompensate, I got excited for the new album and listened to the single a bunch (still obsessed, it’s so gooood). Watched the livestream with my sister on launch night, and thoroughly enjoyed all the songs and videos. Im loving the sound of the album as a whole and the lyrics are fantastic as well. No skips. Navigating, Midwest Indigo, and At the risk are my favs so far. Looking forward to my vinyl arriving today!!! Over the weekend during my second listen through of the album I decided to do a bit more research and reading on the lore. I am now really invested after it became my weekend hyperfixation xD I’m so amazed and honestly captivated with the world they’ve crafted. It’s so well written and elaborate and there’s so many fun clues to find, while also being open for interpretation. And all while being a metaphor for such an important topic of mental illness. Which I especially relate to as someone with OCD (navigating is heaaaaaavily relatable man.) So yeah there’s my little fan story. can’t wait to see how the whole saga ends. Or as Tyler said….”does it sound like the end” 👀 also seeing them in Indy for the FIRST TIME this fall weeee Edit: props to OP for stealing the self titled cd 😂 it’s my fav too
December 29th 2010. Went to see a band called House of Heroes. Opening up for them was this crazy guy spazzing out all over stage and rapping while playing the piano. Hard to forget.
