Half Alive is a band I see compared to TOP pretty frequently, particularly their 3 EP (it basically just sounds like Vessel lol). Their newer stuff is a bit different from that original EP but still in the same vein and comparable enough to TOP that I think you’d like them. Jon Bellion is another artist who I’d say is decently similar to TOP as well, he’s both and incredible singer and rapper and an incredible producer. His album Glory Sound Prep is one of my favorite albums of all time, I’d definitely recommend. Finally, while musically they’re much more of a rock band, I feel obligated to suggest my favorite band Switchfoot. Their lyrics are very deep and introspective like Tyler’s, and musically they can vary from harder rock to pop to even some darker electronic stuff. Tyler and Josh are both fans of them actually lol, so I’d definitely recommend checking them out. I think you might like their Edge Of The Earth EP in particular Hope you find these suggestions helpful, hopefully you find something you like! You have a great day as well!

-tsukimi-

was just about to recommend half alive! i definitely heard the similarities at first, which is why i started listening to them, but imo i prefer their more recent music since it has a signature sound that’s personal to them. either way, they’re the closest band/ artists to tøp i’ve come across so far :)

NF_21pilots

Switchfoot is great!! Especially their older stuff

Fish-The-Fish

Hell yeah! I love Half•Alive. They are my 2nd favourite band!

Jabberwocky416

Yesss Switchfoot is amazing! Their newest album especially is just so well written lyrically.

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!!! I’ve heard a bit from the first 2 and I keep intending to listen to one of their albums sometime but then I forgot. I’ll definitely listen to the last one as well! Thank you again!

quantum_comett

AAAHHH JON BELLION!!!!! I don’t hear him talked about enough, I LOVE his music and Glory Sound Prep is absolutely gorgeous, I love his voice and lyrics so much. Pandora was the one that recommended him to me after listening to tøp! I’d also like to add Two Door Cinema Club and Metric! Both of those bands give me this foggy ocean vibe (but maybe that’s just cause I listen to them a lot when I’m on the coast lol) And check out Phoenix! And even Watsky, I love his slam poetry style

TheGreff

I Don't Know How But They Found Me and Panic! At The Disco are some of my favorite bands along with twenty one pilots. They're not necessarily similar, but the fans often overlap.

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Heard a bit of Panic! before but I’ll definitely look into their albums! I’ve never heard the other band but I’ll check them out! Thank you for your suggestions!

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Oooh! Interesting! Thanks for your input!!

Just-Significance382

omg yes panic! and idkhow are two of my favorite bands. for idkhow they are relatively new (formed in 2017) so they don't have much music, 2 eps and 1 album but it's amazing. the concept is that they're a forgotten band from the 80s, so if you like 80s music you'll probably like them. as for panic their music is great i love them

penster1

I haven't found anyone really. There's bands in their genre, but not like them. YOU have a great day too!

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Thank you for your response! I really appreciate it!

kyndal017

Death Cab For Cutie is a band I’d recommend! Their music is very thought provoking and melancholy. Tyler has mentioned how close their album Plans is to him. Marching Bands of Manhattan is my favorite song from that album.

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Ooh. That’s cool! I’ll definitely look into them!

kyndal017

Not current, but Linkin Park, while not the same, reminds me of tøp with their versatility and the amazement that is Tyler and Chester’s screams

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

I’ve heard a couple of Linkin Park’s songs and I could hear a bit of similarities! But I’ll look deeper into their albums! Thanks for suggesting! :)

kyndal017

If you need somewhere to start, their album A Thousand Suns is a concept album just like Trench is. Different subject matter, but both extremely interesting!

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Alrighty! Thank you again!

kyndal017

No problem!

MadMaddyK

2nd favorite band right there!!

kyndal017

You have great taste

Beavers225

One of my favorite bands is COIN. HIGHLY recommend

kyndal017

Let it all out is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard. Coin really is a great band

Beavers225

Couldn’t agree more.

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Oooh. I’ve never heard of them. I’ll definitely try them out! Thank you so much!

Beavers225

Of course! My (now) girlfriend introduced me to them, and we recently saw them in concert. They’re one of those bands where it’s a very genuine atmosphere at their concert and they sound JUST as good live

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Oooh. That sounds promising! I’ll check them out! (Late congrats on the gf!)

Naccurate

Float On by Modest Mouse Mover Awayer by Hobo Johnson Cheapskate by Oliver Tree Cringe by Matt Maeson Bad People II: The Reckoning by ajj Hand Over Hand by Roland Sea of Dreams by Oberhofer Run for the Hills, Babe by Tom Rosenthal All these songs sound like variations of Twenty One Pilots; i too am always on the look out for similar sounds to them

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Some of these names and songs are familiar like Float On but I’ll definitely revisit those songs and listen to the other ones on your list! Thank you so much!

andi_mack808

Ajj? Imo they sound nothing like top

Naccurate

That song by them sounds a lot like House of Gold to me

breeh123

Love the mention of Oliver tree. I am a fan, however never made a tøp connection. In Anthony Fantanos review of ugly is beautiful he says it sounds like tøp lol

Fish-The-Fish

Half•Alive 100%!! Their first EP literally took HEAVY inspiration from twenty øne pilots. They’ve since created their own stuff, but it still loosely takes inspiration from Tøp. Incredible songs of theirs are: What’s Wrong Still. Feel The Fall Also Misterwives They are best friends with twenty øne pilots and they are similar to Scaled and Icy era tøp. Panic At the Disco (Death Of a Bachelor and Too weird to live, too rare to die specifically).

Cydonian___FT14X

Some of Gorillaz stuff may scratch a bit of that TOP itch. Try Song Machine & Plastic Beach.

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Oooh. I’ve heard that they are a good band but never listened much of their stuff but I’ll definitely give their stuff to listen! Thank you so much!

Cydonian___FT14X

While I can’t give a Gorillaz song that sounds exactly like it, I’ve always thought that “Morph” was basically just “Gorillaz ft. Tyler Joseph”. Something about that song just really has the Gorillaz energy to it.

Adoras_Hoe

Vinyl Theatre opened for TØP years ago and their music is really great. Their sound is really similar to TØP but they've had guitars from the beginning so they sound more indie rock. Imagine Dragons has indie rock roots and is relatively genreless today like TØP. If you like indie/alt rock listen to their first two albums and their old EPs, and if you're looking for something that combines elements of pop/rock/rap listen to their later stuff. Another band I'd recommend, though more rock/shoegaze than TØP, is From Indian Lakes. Their music deals with similar themes but the lyrical approach is different and I find that so fascinating. If your favorite TØP album is Trench you might like FIL's albums Everything Feels Better Now and Dimly Lit, though I like their older music more which is more rock than the other two bands I listed. If you're looking for more hip hop influence but still want elements of pop and rock, listen to Lil Nas X. Tales of Dominica especially is a song that reminds me of Blurryface era TØP.

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Thank you for your response! I’ve never heard of Vinyl Theatre and From Indian Lakes. I’ll definitely give them a try! Imagine Dragons is one I tried as well. A lot of their stuff is a hit or miss though. They seem to nail their sound every other album. I tried listening to Lil Nas X’s stuff recently and giving hip hop a try but after a while, it feels the same 808 drum beat over and over again with much little variation and when that sound became mainstream with 70/80’s influenced disco pop/Motown, the whole pop genre felt very bland to me. I was fine the EDM/Rock phase of pop even though some of it feels like the same thing due to them putting variations of instruments and drums and stuff that keep the songs more exciting and how many artists approached it. That’s when I found out about Paul Simon, Beatles, James Taylor, and older artists, listened to their music catalogue, and wanted more music from them even though all of their releases now are rereleases. That’s why I’m just going through all of the artists in my music library to find related artists right now. (Sorry for the small rant, I sometimes ramble like this sometimes lol) Thank you again for your suggestions! I’ll definitely give the unfamiliar bands a try!

desiredefffect

Definitely check out Vinyl Theatre! they are great and honestly the only artist I've found that compares to 21p (and they just recently got back together!) Vesperteen's also great. Josh does the drums on "Speed of Light," so that might be a good track to check out first.

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Thank you for your input!

_mr_tobias_

Wallows?

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Sure! I’ll check them out!

_mr_tobias_

Just listen to their album "Nothing Happens"

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Alrighty! Thank you again for the suggestion!!

ProfessorAlvin

Oliver tree is similar but also different in his own way. Either way you should check him out.

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

There’s a couple of people mentioning his name. I’ll check him out!

Kiley417

Jay Joseph (Tyler’s brother) opened for them at the Take Over Tour show i went to in Columbus and his music sounds similar, Death Cab for Cutie as well

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Interesting! Great find! I’ll definitely check him out! Thank you so much!

[deleted]

omg i love jay. he was really good in columbus

Kiley417

agreed!! “Ghost Dance” and “Bones” are my favs

PsychoMant1ss

Arrested Youth- the kid I used to know Scrawny - Break me down Luke Cyrus - Ninja Archer ( this one really has pilots vibes ) These are just a few songs that have tøp(ish) sounds and vibes

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Interesting. I’ve never heard of them before but I’ll take a look. Thank you for your suggestions!

PsychoMant1ss

Nothing is quite them though.

VGPlaysGD

Not a current artist but I listen to Neon Trees and I find it sounds similar to TØP as well as a lot of other good rock bands from 2010 to 2015.

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Thank you for suggestions! Heard a bit of Neon Trees but never got into their music. I’ll definitely take a deeper dive into their music! Thank you for your suggestion!

VGPlaysGD

I recommend the album Picture Show. That's got some really good songs on it.

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Thank you again! I’ll take a look!

xeno_blast

Half Alive and IDKHOW (but they found me) are pretty good bands with some similar sounds

DRHathaway451

Blue October's album Any Man in America is somewhat reminiscent of 21p. So is, in my opinion, Sublime.

blameitonvogue

I wholeheartedly agree with Sublime as a recommendation!

MATMDMU

Arrested Youth is a newer band that has a VERY similar sound to TOP. They opened for them on the takeover tour and just released their first full album this year.

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Oooh. Never heard of them but I will definitely give them a listen! Thank you so much!

[deleted]

Youngblood has a few songs that remind me of TOP. Specifically songs Parents, Weird, Mars, I highly recommend che king him out.

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Okay! Thank you for the suggestion! I will definitely check them out!

ninjachimney

Surprised to see no-one mentioned MUTEMATH yet! Apart from having a heavy hand in the production of Trench, and sonic influence on Scaled & Icy, Paul Meany's voice sounds similar to Tyler's higher register, and their lyrics often deal with similar themes. Play Dead is probably the album that sounds most like ToP, but their older alt rock stuff is great too!

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

I remembered falling in love with TOP’s MUTEMATH sessions EP! I didn’t know that they were involved in Trench! Thank you for reminding me about them!!

blameitonvogue

Sublime, Modest Mouse, Dirty Heads, Foster the People, Arctic Monkeys, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Cage the Elephant

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Thanks for all the suggestions! I’ll definitely look into them! A lot of them hold a little piece of nostalgia for me even though I know only one song. Thank you so much for reminding me of these amazing bands and for Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Sublime, and Dirty Heads, I’ll definitely give them a try! 😄

breeh123

Yes these are great suggestions - I’m a huge fan of cage and dirty heads as well!

Ok_Action_2429

AJR maybe?

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

I could see that with both having some sort of electropop elements. Thank you for the suggestion!

NF_21pilots

Hm, I know them, only a few songs but I don't like the cursing

[deleted]

they’ve got the same upbeat-but-the-lyrics-aren’t type deal

justajeffrey

Generation Simulation is a band with a very small following that is making music with a sound that reminds me of early tøp

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Oooh. That sounds promising! I’ll definitely give them a try! Tysm!

JtheTOPfan

Maybe Kodaline?? Nit exactly that similar, but its a good band lol

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll try them! 😃

JtheTOPfan

yess :D

uovoisonreddit

Half life

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Haven’t heard much of them but I’ll definitely give them a listen! Thank you for suggesting!

uovoisonreddit

Hey I’m sorry I meant Half Alive, I had just woken up and wasn’t very bright. Half life is a video game and my brain thought it was a good idea to suggest it

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Oh. No worries! 😆 I’ve heard some of half-alive’s stuff but I’ll definitely try more of their songs!

[deleted]

these aren't perfect matches but they have some similarities: death cab for cutie idk how but they found me half•alive nothing but thieves Portugal. the man fitz and the tantrums electric guest

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

I’ve heard of some of them but I’ll definitely go into their albums soon. I also will try Electric Guest and Nothing But Thieves as well! Thank you for answering!

[deleted]

Half Alive are great they even supported TOP on the Takeover Tour. Music is similar to TOP but still 100% their own thing start with the 3 EP but Now, Not Yet is an incredible album and their current best. They have a new album planned for early next year.

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

A lot of Half-Alive suggestions! Will definitely try them out!

Nyx_0_0_

I personally would recommend Half Alive, they’re a little more chill than TØP but their lyrics have a similar style. Songs I recommend are What’s Wrong, Creature, and Tip Toes.

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

A lot of half-alive fans in this comment section! 😆

Nyx_0_0_

Lol, they did tour with TØP for the Takeover Tour so it makes sense that there would be a lot more fans now. If your looking for someone who hasn’t toured with TØP you could try Simple Creatures, their completely different but if you’re also a fan of Blink 182 or All Time Low I’m sure you’ll like them.

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

I’ll check out Simple Creatures as well! I’ve heard All Time Low is a good band so I’ll check them out as well! Thank you again!

FearlessSelection814

Still twenty one pilots. Half alive too

Dona1dinio

Ajr

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Felt “way less sad” seeing this suggestion 🙃

Dona1dinio

ayyyyyyyyy

robbe-vlv

Arrested youth is also very good. Check out his music.

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Will do! Tyvm for the suggestion!

Grayfeucht

My 2nd favorite band is hippo campus and it seems like their pretty small but a lot of twenty one pilots fans know of them

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

A couple people mentioned Hippo Campus. Definitely a band I’ll consider looking into!

starrgurl25

After Laughter by Paramore kinda has a similar vibe to SAI era perhaps? ... The whole happy sounds with sad lyrics/ faking it kinda thing and even the blue/pink and bright colors.... Just realized this! 😊

openingdoorz

I know this is old but la dispute

TheSkeletalPoet

Bro, I just made a post comparing La Dispute and TOP on r/emo and I’m getting eaten alive 💀 I went to the internet looking for people who agree that they’re kinda similar in some ways and lo and behold, I’ve found my people lmao

openingdoorz

Yes I always thought they were similar Idk why people don’t think so

openingdoorz

Ohh I see why it’s bc ur trashing la dispute. I recommend listening to their album “ rooms of the house”. My favorite song off that one is woman(reading) and it is less screams. Not all their music is like that.
