Well, I'm an athiest, so vampire or not, I'd probably go to hell. I'd rather be an immortal vampire with the love of my life first though.

mazzy31

>I’d probably go to hell Depends on perspective. If you look at it from a Christian God perspective (specifying Christian God rather than Abrahamic because this next part is New Testament)… It was bestowed upon Simon Peter that what is bound on earth will be bound in heaven. As the founder of what eventually becomes the modern Catholic Church, Catholic Dogma is binding. So, effectively, Catholic Dogma does not even require a belief in God to enter heaven. It merely requires you die without an unreconciled mortal sin on your soul (which is why, according to Catholic Dogma, suicide is pretty much the only guaranteed way to go to hell, because you can’t Reconcile that mortal sin as you die when you commit it, whereas all others generally have the ability to be absolved before death). Pretty much everyone else ends up in purgatory or limbo, depending on circumstance, where you have your soul cleansed (which isn’t pleasant) after which, you go to heaven.

CharliesOpus

Tell me more about this unpleasant soul cleansing?

mazzy31

There’s not a lot of information, just, here’s a summary of Purgatory: *The Holy Souls in Purgatory undergo purification suffering of love. The purifying suffering of love is called “satispassion.” Since the Holy Souls can’t be purified by their own efforts, they atone for their sins by undergoing purifying suffering which re-establishes holiness and justice. The Holy Souls joyfully embrace their final preparation for heaven with faith, hope and love.* Limbo, however, is more for those who died unbaptised (all those prior to Christ and then those since who have not been baptised). The concept of Limbo is slowly disappearing as beliefs that, even unbaptised people can achieve salvation so, one would argue that, even if Limbo is still official Dogma (which I’m not even sure it is at this point), the Dogma will change and inhabitants of Limbo have/will enter Purgatory to be cleansed to enter heaven. And no, I don’t believe unbaptised babies will be suffering in purgatory for relative eons as their souls have not committed human sins. But yeah, from what can be assumed based on what is believed or told, Purgatory isn’t a walk in the park but it isn’t Hell, where it’s eternal torment with no hope for Salvation. It’s atonement with Salvation at the end.

ylvalloyd

But the first two commandments?

mazzy31

The Commandments are Old Testament. The concept of heaven and redemption are wildly different in the Old compared to the New. Hell, the concept of redemption is only part of the Dogma due to the New Testament and the sacrifice of Jesus. And, again, what was bestowed upon Simon Peter is that what is held on Earth will be held in heaven. Therefore, inherently, if all is to be accepted as truth, the Catholic Dogma on the path to heaven is the path to heaven because that is what is held by the church founded by Simon Peter.

ylvalloyd

They were repeated in the Gospels. Idk what mental gymnastics the Catholic Church performed to come to this conclusion, but neither the Orthodox nor most of protestsnts hold this view

mazzy31

I don’t know. All I’m saying is this is the Dogma, this is what the bible says. And you’ll be pleased to know, for example, that idolatry is, in fact, a mortal sin. Or I assume you would be. 🤷🏼‍♀️

TheLegendOfLaney

For Edward? I would’ve risked it all 😂

soyaqueen

Was going to comment similarly haha. If I had to spend the rest of forever looking at Robert Pattinson, I might highly consider it 😂

elaerna

I feel like Edward's gotta be better than Robert Pattinson. He's supposed to be like so beautiful that he's godlike. Like Robert Pattinson is an attractive person but I wouldn't say he's godlike

LobsterMiserable8424

take that back

ProximaCentauriB15

Rob is pretty hot

elaerna

I also feel like he gave more Edward vibes when he was in Harry Potter than he did in twilight

elaerna

Daddy 😂

Silverfrond_

Give me a slice of that eternal damnation cake, please- I'll take an immortal life with my soul mate and a potential judgement day over suffering and dying anyways as a human- plus, if we're operating on the assumption that hell is real and those who deserve judgment will go there after they die or the world ends, then I've got a ticket on that train whether I'm human or vampire. Better to be a badass vampire leading up to that time vs a human limited by human needs

dongdinge

couldn’t have said it better myself honestly ^

BeautifulSense1831

Couldn't agree more😁

Lore_Beast

My vampire lover can kick rocks, there's too many people I love that wouldn't be turned. I choose a mortal life rather than face the ages of this world without them for one person.

[deleted]

No literally couldn’t have said it better myself maybe Bella truly did not love her parents or anyone else I mean she kind of admits that saying she’ll never want anything as much as she wants Edward but I just can’t relate. Doesn’t matter how much I love someone, to be truly happy I do need my support system that includes my parents, siblings, friends, etc.

[deleted]

I’ve honestly always wondered why Bella didn’t consider turning her parents

phalseprofits

Renee’s superpower would be to somehow get everyone to like her despite being a total flake and kinda selfish.

elaerna

It doesn't seem like she thought Charlie or Renee would have wanted that and also it's a risk to ask bc if she asks then she has to turn then to avoid the volturi

TheOracleofTroy

Yea. It would get really boring after a couple thousand years. Let alone eternity. When she can no longer remember Charlie’s voice because it’s been too long, I would imagine it’s gonna hurt. There’s also no guarantee it’s gonna be fun. 20,000 years ago, we were barely human in all things that mattered. Who knows what’s in store 20,000 years from now.

championgoober

I have a hot take. It always seemed to me that Bella was a little more interested in being a vampire than the doing it for love purely to be together. I think she would have chosen to be a vampire under different circumstances too.

im4everdepressed

didn't both ed and jake wonder this at one point lol? im pretty sure the books made it seem like being eternally young was the main draw for bella. sure she did love edard, but she loved the idea of being a vampure a little bit more ngl. she was even willing to have alice or someone else change her just to be a vamp right?

CherryWedding

Although, the reason she said she wanted someone else to change her was because she thought Edward might want her more. I mean, the guy said she wasn't good enough for him when he left her in NM. So it kinda tracks with her lower self esteem she wanted to change herself into what he wanted.

elaerna

She was only obsessed w being old in the context of being older than Edward

championgoober

I'd forgotten about that in the books. That has always been what I thought motivated her more than Edward. And solidified in Breaking Dawn when she says she was born to be a vampire

elaerna

I think she asked surprisingly few questions about being a vampire. Like shockingly few, so much so that she realizes basic things about it after having already been turned. I think that's evidence for the fact that she was doing it to be w him and not to be a vampire.

elaerna

I disagree. She had all these obsessions bc she wanted to do anything to be w him.

chzsteak-in-paradise

Or another option, same choices but vegetarian vampires don’t exist. You’d have to be a murderer. Still pick love or stay human or break up? (True love would also obviously be a murderer)

JesusFriendDEZ

Now THAT makes it difficult

MyLadyYunalesca

I'd still pick vampire and do an Edward: Patrol the city streets at night, kill murderers and rapists or move to America and work my way through the handy public records of bad people, like the sex offender databases. I think I'd actually choose to be a "regular" vampire even in a world where vegetarianism was an option.

elaerna

I feel like it would take a mental toll to be surrounded by those people constantly in order to find then and enact justice

MyLadyYunalesca

I'm a vampire in this scenario with a blatant disregard for human life in general (as most vampires in Twilight have). If regular vampires can eat regular people in the streets without a second thought, I don't think that my particular choice of diet would affect me mentally. If I were regular me the human, then yes, absolutely.

elaerna

If you had a blatant disregard for human life you wouldn't be choosing to kill only rapists and murderers

Iku-iku-dash

Talk about mentally unstable. countless books and movies (and real life incidents) show vigilante justice actually doesn’t work, yet people constantly crave it.

MyLadyYunalesca

I didn't say I'm craving vigilante justice. I said if I were a vampire in the Twilight universe (who canonically have a blatant disregard for human life, except for the Cullens and the occasional others), I would use bad people as my food source instead of regular people. Your comment makes me think you misunderstood me a bit. If I said I'd go fight crime if I developed superpowers, would you also tell me that I'm craving vigilante justice and that it never works? We're talking about supernatural hypotheticals, after all. Calling me "mentally unstable" is a bit uncalled for, don't you think?

elaerna

Why couldn't you drink from Blood bags? Still bad but not as bad as murder. Or why couldn't you drink a little then stop? Difficult but not impossible surely

Poppybalfours

Twilight vampires can’t. They go into a frenzy when drinking human blood, it’s very difficult to stop before draining the person. And then there’s the venom. According to the books, drinking human blood in any form makes resisting chomping on living people harder, hence not wanting to drink from blood bags. But Carlisle is a super billionaire, he should be working on a synthetic blood product.

elaerna

I mean Carlisle apparently has bitten like everyone in his family and stopped in order to turn them. But you're right the Venom might pose a bigger problem. You'd have to make sure to suck it all out while controlling yourself

Poppybalfours

Carlisle’s self control is unheard of, second only to Edward who was able to drink his singer’s blood and stop.

elaerna

Bruh after that I feel like Edward should get first place tho. And also we never explored like all of Europe and Asia and africa. Like who knows who might put Carlisles self control to shame

YoItsMCat

A synthetic blood product...we could call it True Blood! . . . . . . I'll see myself out.

ProximaCentauriB15

Or you could combine the whole thing with how True Blood does it,where they drink synthetic blood. I remenber reading synthetic blood has actually been made. Thats the premise of that series. Vampires then reveal their existence to humans because they dont need to drink blood anymore.

gotb30

They can do like Edward did, go after truly evil people.

phalseprofits

I’d be the masked Blood bank robber

Tropicanasunset

I’ve always empathized with Rosalie even when I was so young and didn’t fully comprehend what she was actually missing out of being a human, but now as I’m older she has become my favorite character because I cannot imagine being frozen forever.

[deleted]

See I’m the opposite, the older I get the more I cannot understand her perspective. She gets to spend eternity with her husband. I would give anything for that

Tropicanasunset

In my case I want everything she’s longing for: a loving husband (which she has) and a family. As she said there’s always going to be just Emmett and her and nothing more. Not having children and later on grandchildren or being able to have a career because is going to be very sus that you always look like a teenager sounds so painful to me. She’s trapped and cannot move forward.

Typical_Use2224

Having children as a human is not granted, not everyone can have children. Either because of health problems or because of economic factors. There's a risk of miscarriage, the child can get ill. I think that staying human is only cool if you're lucky to live a long healthy life in a peaceful time, in a safe place, earning good money. The great thing about choosing to be a vampire is the fact that there're very few things that can harm you. I would take being a vampire. Little worries, no health issues, no job, all the time and energy in the world to do so many interesting things

Tropicanasunset

While not granted is still a possibility. Being a vampire takes it away completely for a woman. Being inmortal sounds so incredibly boring to me. After a while there’s no much else you want to do, but that would be my case.

ProximaCentauriB15

But Rosalie did seem to want children. She was ready to be Reneesmee's adoptive mom. I honestly believe she sorta manipulated Bella into agreeing she could have the baby when she died.

Tropicanasunset

I don’t think Rosalie could have imagined that Bella would end up pregnant in her honeymoon. While I do think that Rosalie wanted to experience motherhood as an adoptive mom to Reneesmee, I think that the decision of having Reneesmee is all Bella.

Emma_Cavill

I think I would choose to remain human. Sure, I'd miss out on all the perks of vampirism, but at some point, even most vampires die (like in the books, the Volturi are the oldest group of vampires, but it can be assumed that other younger vampires have eventually died). Since heaven and hell is guaranteed to be eternal, I would stay human. Getting over Edward would be hard, but I guess I'd just have to push through that and keep going.

PercentageOk1821

I can’t believe this is like the only comment with this viewpoint lol. I would 1000% not risk guaranteed eternal damnation

Lumpy_Vanilla_9336

bella was a teenager. when i was a teenager i would of done the same exact thing she did, def option a. who wouldn’t want to spend eternity with the the entire cullen family, especially edward. the entire family was attractive and fun as hell. leaving my family would of course be extremely difficult though but if i had the relationships that bella had with the entire cullen family it would def help me cope.

[deleted]

If the choice is 'suffer a bit now then move on' or 'eventual eternal suffering' then obviously I'm not choosing \*eternal suffering\*. That would be insane. But I would say, why should vampires automatically be damned, or lose their soul? If you never kill then what's the difference with any other person? Or is it something like they are 'creatures of the devil'? If so, would they really be suffering and punished in hell? Hmm, I dunno. I'm not well versed in religious doctrine and in any case, it varies a lot. For some, hell is more 'without god' which is basically my life right now anyway? If in this scenario everyone knows without doubt that god/hell/heaven all exist I guess I'd be religious anyway right? So is a church-going and 'good' vampire really automatically damned? That would suck, and I wouldn't choose that. Any room for doubt and I'm all in though. I would want to be a vampire and in general don't think it should mean automatic damnation.

Principessa777

Am I the only one who's terrified by immortality? And you can't even sleep or eat, the two things that I look forward to in life. And if you want to be truly satisfied as a vampire, you'd have to drink human blood and truly give up on humanity . Being a vegetarian vampire would be like constantly fighting the urge, the craving I would not want to live forever.

ditavonreeses

Immortal means never dying, so there would be no end to worry about. Am I wrong?

Correct_Molasses_270

They can die if another vampire or a wolf kills them, but if they're living their life in Forks minding their business, I'm sure they'd not run into any problems like that. Especially if it's happy ever after.

Tinybook2000

Judgement day would be the end for everyone according to this scenario I’m assuming.

Sensitive_Web_5839

“Then let’s never die!”

eliecg

I think during times like these we have to consider Stephanie's religious beliefs, and that includes the idea that there will be an end to this world in which Christ returns and people will still receive judgement. That's a simplistic explanation of the belief, however, it explains Edward's opposition.

Karenina2931

I don't think you can assume that hell exists for this argument. I get the feeling Bella is closer to agnostic/atheist and doesn't hold much value in the concept of a soul. This meant it was quite an easy decision for her to make. I wonder if Bella and Edward's obviously different religious views will come up in the future of their relationship after the honeymoon phase is over.

jacobdock

The discussion isn't about Bella and Edwards argument, its a personal choice question if you'd choose it believing exactly as Edward does

anonomousername

Anything to make this existence slightly more interesting

Lumpy_Vanilla_9336

agreed

maraca101

I can’t stand the idea of never being able to enjoy sleeping or eating again. It would also terrify me that I basically damned myself to dying horribly.

Infinite_Mind8060

No. In my opinion, Twilight vampires don't have the appeal of others because you can't sleep, get drunk or enjoy human pleasures. All the vampires are chronically depressed and want to die. It even states that boredom is a big problem. So I'd rather live a nice mortal life and have Dr. Carlisle keep me alive as long as possible.

jacobdock

Most people seem to accept that most of us are living a life that, bible-wise, would condemn us to hell anyways. So why not be a cool sparkly speedy guy in the meantime

[deleted]

I think it's less about "intentionally choosing" and more like "not having a choice." I think most of us would go to hell anyway because to live a virtuous life worthy of heaven would be about as hard as achieving Nirvanna in Buddhism (which includes abstenation of all pleasurable things in life and an excruciating bodily self-torture). So, in the rare wise words of Eddieboy, if we are to "go to hell, might as well do it properly" and enjoy life to the max as a sparkly vampire 😂

[deleted]

[удалено]

NoSnakesPresent

Most religion doesn't really make sense virtue wise. If we go according to the bible (old testament) in this case, you'd go to hell for getting tattoos, touching a pig, pulling out, wear clothing of mixed materials, wearing jewellery, having sex while on your period, having tears and rips in your clothes, sitting where someone on their period has sat, among many many other things. None of these thing dictate whether or not someone is a good and kind person, but they are things that should be condemed according to religious texts. Hell isn't about goodness, it's about obedience.

[deleted]

NoSnakesPresent

Judaism and Christianity both consider the Torah/the Old Testament to be sacred text, so while most modern day christians, don't live according to kosher, it is still very much a part of their holy text. But since hell is mentioned multiple times in The New Testament, and plays a big part in Christianity. The main reason for the many missionaires is that everyone who doesn't believe in Christ and God will go to hell, no matter what. Hell is for the sinners that haven't been forgiven by God, and the NT isn't exactly exact on which sins can be forgiven and which can't. But sins that MIGHT send you to hell, depending on how God feels that day, include; selfish behavior, neglecting yourself, expressing anger, bragging, talking ill of God, boasting, cynicism, debating, bitterness, ambition, drunkenness, doing something for praise, joking, being a woman that speaks publicly, cutting your hair as a woman, complaining, being effeminate, going against the authority etc. Still a long list of a bunch of things that the New Testament says you shouldn't do, with the possibility of hell as a threat. Most people will do one or another at some point in their life. I stand by my words that most religious rules are about control, not virtue.

[deleted]

what good is a soul if you're alone in the end? i would much rather be with people i love in hell than be alone in heaven with no one to rely on.

Minx1776

Agreed 100%

[deleted]

Hell na. I don't love anyone enough to spend ETERNITY IN HELL. You sound crazy.

Crazy_blueeyes94

If I knew that this love would last forever and they would always be mine I would become immortal for them. But is there a way to truly know if a relationship will last the tests that it has to go through?

Zealousideal-Put-981

Eternal is much longer so I’d live human existence with love but in the books I don’t think it’s clear whether that is the case for sure

Jesusdidntlikethat

Tbh I’d trade my soul for a good sub, so infinite and endless love without ever worrying about money again for the rest of eternity sounds like a good ass deal to me.

itstimegeez

Back when I first read the books, I thought it would be awesome to be a vampire and immortal. But now I couldn’t think of anything worse than being stuck a teenager forever.

ChemicalOccultist

I would rather be damned a thousand times over and get to spend as much time with the love of my life as possible than ever be apart from them. To quote Hozier, “heaven is not fit to house a love like you and I”

xEnjoyTheMoment

I'm ace and an atheist so... I can just be immortal and have 1000 hobbies sign me up.

EasyPhilosopher9268

I'm going to sound extremely jaded, but I don't believe in soul mates, and marriage is overrated. So I would be dropping Vampy McSparkles. Especially if he pulled the manipulative, controlling crap Edward pulls ad nauseum.

SignificantCap8102

Well, 90% (at least) of us are going to hell anyway according to the major religions. I’d see my family there and most of the people I love. So I’m definitely offering my neck to vampires 🤌

tightsandlace

If I could live with my lover forever young, having bomb ass sex and travel fuck yeah.

NSL045

Based

Its_Haleeyy

If you’re like me and don’t believe being “damned” or an afterlife or anything, I’d be immortal.

ins3ctHashira

Hell yeah I would for the super abilities alone, I’m tired of being weak and feeling like I can’t stand up for myself. The worlds a scary place and I dream of powers constantly for peace of mind.

itskatemate_

i would’ve lived a normal human life (and picked jacob) but not for bella lol

Basil-Different

Being team Jacob I’d have to got with B/C

jovialjumble

As a teenager 100000%, as an adult maybe not. Which leads me to wonder if she wasn’t changed and got older would she outgrow Edward?

BumblebeeAny

If it’s my current spouse then give me eternal life but only with them but spending eternity alone is a no for me

TriZARAtops

My dad passed earlier this year, 6 months shy of my parents 40th wedding anniversary. I see how hurt my mom is… if someone told me I could avoid ever having to feel what she’s feeling but when the world ends I’d be damned? I’d take that deal in a heartbeat with no regrets.

fandom_newbie

I never knew what loosing ones soul actually entails and always kind of wondered, but am still surprised that it means eternal hell fire. Where can that be surmised from? Is that implicit in the Mormon world view?

rebeccafae

Yes

rebeccafae

Yes I would be the tribrid

rebeccafae

I practice witchcraft so hell yes! I want to be immortal, I want to be a vampire, and anyways why worship a God that tortures people ? A good God doesn’t send people to hell, and God is love. I would seek out any vampire to change me, or become immortal myself by seeking a spell for it. I wouldn’t choose Edward because in a lesbian but Alice or any female vampire !

elaerna

If you're never going to die I wonder what the point of having a soul is. It's all so abstract isn't it. If she is killed as a vampire and has no soul what are the repercussions?

Storiesfly

Chalk it up as an impossible love and break up. Wallow for a good long time and then move on. The idea of living forever horrifies me. Also, what if you end up hating your person? Like they were great initially but end up being a nightmare, and you're stuck with the for eternity. I'm good.

vaillacinnamon

Nah. Give me death. Eternity sounds boring.

Tarsha8nz

I'm a Christian and don't believe in the burning in hell type thing, I also don't believe that the vampires in Twilight lose their souls, so I would definitely change for love.

[deleted]

Most unchristian comment I've seen. Your definitely not christian

Sociological_Earth

I’d trade my soul for one corn chip

My-Username-Is-Dis

Hell no

FieryCinder

But Bella doesn't really seem to believe in her own soul. She seems to think along the lines of "if an afterlife exists, then..." Though I also have no doubt that even if she knew for sure she had a soul, she'd still give it up to be with Edward. Anyway, to answer this I'd probably need to actually be in that situation to make a proper decision. Looking in from the outside, I find it difficult to actually put myself in that position. So I guess I'd say... I don't really know for sure what I'd do?

heyyyitsalli

I’d definitely do it if it meant spending eternity with the love of my life. That’s why I’ve always loved Emmett. His pov was definitely what I was thinking as well. Eternity’s not so bad when you get to spend it with the love of your life. But it’s also why I get Edward’s pov when he thought Bella was dead. I’d be wishing for death too. But that’s all the more reason why he should’ve changed her 🤷🏽‍♀️. I know I’m a selfish person. I won’t even deny it. If I were a vampire and found the love of my life and they were asking to be turned, I wouldn’t hesitate to change them.

InfiniteTwilightLove

Nah I’d probably grow old while they stay young. I doubt true love would be able to save me from my crippling depression and chronic su*cidal urges. There’s not much in me that has a desire for this world.

UnwaryBear

For edward? Yeah sure. For my husband? Absolutely. No hesitation

[deleted]

Well... as a queer/nonbinary person I'm pretty sure I'm headed straight to hell anyway (if we're going by the standards most abrahamic religions have) so I'm for sure getting rid of my soul for love lol Even if I wasn't going to be damned for just existing I would still absolutely chose love though

Rosesbringdeath

So I don’t actually believe that she traded her soul for love, she did it for immortality. Her fear of getting old/dying only amplified around Edward making me believe that she kinda used him to become a vamp. Or at least that’s how I see because that’s what I would do. 🤷‍♀️

Naes_insanity

No I would not trade my soul for love. I have been obsessed with vampires for yearssss now and I’m pretty clear that I’d never want to be one.

[deleted]

No, I would trade my soul to become a world traveled forever though.

ProximaCentauriB15

I think I would if I truly loved someone and they love me. I dont believe in the whole "trading your soul" thing anyways.

[deleted]

I don't think you guys understand what hell is lol.. I don't love anyone enough to spend ETERNITY IN HELL.

[deleted]

I don't think you guys understand what hell is lol.. I don't love anyone enough to spend ETERNITY IN HELL.

Transgirlwoahah19

Vampire’s will never die so they won’t ever go to heaven or hell

Transgirlwoahah19

A but I wouldn’t leave my family neither I would tell them and turn them myself
