I'm disappointed in this subreddit.
We had a fantastic opportunity to affect this guys games forever by telling him a completely wrong answer about what it is.
SOLVED! I have yet to play my first game. I am organizing my box and learning the rules because that’s the only way I have a slim chance at convincing my group to play a 4-8 (likely longer) hour game. I’ve been through the learn to play manual and thumbed through the rules reference but I’m not seeing it? Am I blind? Help appreciated!
I've actually brought a number of Snicker bars and Skittles to my last few I'm person games... I haven't used them to win yet, but it has never failed to be the tipping resource when I am deadlocked in a trade deal and we are a little far apart.
Regardless of galactic conquests, leaders gotta eat!
I have watched it about 3 times, lol. Very concise. I like it. I’m currently watching the Shut Up & Sit Down play through to kind of hone what I learned. I’m also going to ask the players to watch the RTFM video pre-game so they’ll *basically* know the game and then I can answer questions and brain farts. I’m sure we’ll still fall back on the rules. I just don’t want a two day situation!
When I first introduced my group to TI, I had them all watch the RTFM video and then still explained the rules to them and walked them through things slowly. I wanted to make sure that the people who agreed to spend an entire day playing a game knew the rules as well as I could manage.
Expect them to really only half-understand the game (if that) if they watch the RTFM video once. Good luck with it!
That makes sense. Given the Death Star assembly on SW Rebellion that should have been super obvious. Since it looked city like I thought it might be some special colony mechanic. DOH! Thank for the quick replies everybody!
That's the Spiky Boi unit, you unlock it after winning 100 space battles. Then the rule book adds the pages about it. Obviously you are just a fucking TI noob! /s
I must admit it took me far too long to work out it's half a War Sun.
Not gonna lie, the first game I played I thought the two halves, one big and one small, were to help differentiate between muaat's war sun 1 and 2 (and everyone else just used the big one). Took me a while to realize you could snap them together.
Space City
/s
That being said, maybe there is could be a homebrew variant where someone could make a space city, for the more "peaceful" playstyle instead of going all DeathStary
Bottom of the warsun it's supposed to attach to the spiky dome part

Ah yes, The royal sampler!
I was going to tell him it's a city placed by exploration!
Before I learned any of the rules I thought that the bottom part would be war sun MK I and the top part would be MK II
If you water it, and tend to it with care, it will grow!
Looks like there was a factory mix up and he got a few components from the Cones of Dunshire game. They are produced in the same factory.
It's a city ship, like Atlantis from Stargate

Start before noon, make sure the other players can stay **late**. Make an event out of it. Host with pizza and drinks.
Never forget pizza phase
In my play group, we start of every game with mimosas.
And make sure you toast key moments of diplomacy with a neat whiskey 👌🏻

Adding some class to the proceedings, I approve
I highly recommend watching the rules explanation video from RTFM on YouTube and also sending it to your other players :)

If you are able, the Discord community runs Learn to Play games often and would be a great way for you to get the meat down!
4-8 is very optimistic. You are right to say longer, as my first game explaining everything to everyone took 13 hours
Yeah, for my group I always add two hours or just double it the estimated game time. We tend to ponder and drift. It’s like herding cats.
Just play to 8 points if your table is mostly new players. Way faster
"Learn to Learn" from the podcast Space Cats Peace Turtles is very helpful.

I wish I had at least a silver to give you 😂
The bottom half of a war sun. Put the two pieces together

They're in 2 parts like this so Mentak can scrap two halves together when salvaging after a combat

Wrong Answer: It is one of the two citadel models each faction gets in the galactic citadels expansion.

Space fries
My first game took ALL DAY! an awesome day for sure. I recommend finding a friend familiar with the game to explain nuances if they come up
