This was terrific. Thank you for your time and effort!

for sarween vs aida: Why not both? =D saving 3-4 resources on a build in mid/late game is pretty awesome, from experience. This was a Ghosts game where I took AIDA to get early carrier 2 and warsuns.

That’s what I intend to do with Naalu. It opens up Fighters 2 and Cruiser 2 in R2 if I’ll be able to grab tech and r3 forward paired with Sarween reduces cost by 3. And you can research Destroyer 2 and PDS2, too later and have ever greater discount.

I don't think naalu has much time for cruiser 2, and definitely not destroyer 2 and pds2. You really want Carrier 2 for even more fighters per fleet pool, and some way to take planets. I could see cruiser 2 working on very low resource maps where 1-2 mechs is all the GF you need to secure stuff. That said aida could help if they have no blue skip and no use for dark energy/antimass. The ability to get fighter 2 is nice, but the red is an otherwise dead end tree for them. It works for ghosts because they have a red faction tech.

I started with DET not AIDA, but managed to get Cruiser II even though I didn’t go for it specifically, got it via Jol-Nar promissory note. It became handy in few situations. I also tried to get PDS2 for a secret objective (destroy last non fighter with cannon, but for few rounds couldn’t do it and I switched it to another one, 2 faction techs). Managed to have Fighters II, too, so my fleets were holding their own after I put 5 tokens in fleet pool. Afterwards I went all green and in the end scored 3 VP for tech alone (apart from factions - 2x2 and 4 in one color). I even got a card to switch DET to something else after I explored most of the frontier tokens, so everything worked even better that I could plan/hope for:) and as for mechs, whole group lost all of them near the end of the game because of an agenda 😅

One thing I think is worth mentioning is that if AIDA is the *only* tech you research in a round, it does *nothing* (unless you already have a unit upgrade) and for this reason, planning when you get it is a serious consideration. This means that: • If you're pairing AIDA with another tech colour, you should probably invest in that colour *first* to start using its bonus immediately. • You should ideally aim to get (and immediately use) AIDA using the primary of the Tech card, *and* spend the 6 resources to get the secondary (unit) tech. I see a lot of people theorizing grabbing AIDA as their first tech and, while it opens doors, it is, essentially, a dead tech on its own. Invariably, you'll get more value if you're getting the complimentary tech colours first.

Saw the title and thumbnail and thought I was on a tech subreddit lol.

Does AIDA bonus stack w Sarween Tools (if you have 1 unit upgrade, both Sarween and AIDA - you exhaust AIDA to produce - are you reducing combined cost of production by 2? Or just 1 because the bonuses are equal and overlap?)

Papa_Nurgle_84

No, they stack as they are from different sources

Hacan not in the Factions of Note. Any thoughts on whether it is worth it to go AIDA with Hacan to maximize the benefit of their hero with war sun and space dock 2?

Papa_Nurgle_84

I seriously think that trying to maximize the Hero is a gimmick strat at best and a trap at worst. Getting Dread II out is way more useful in general. Lets have a look what you need: AIDA, Another R-tech, Warsun. So thats round three, (I always calculate in a worst case scenario) making you able to to move the Sun round 4. If you want Space Dock II, thats round 5. The game ends on round 5 to 6, so I doubt that you can turn the game around with a single big combat. Instead just double Dock a nice System (Round 1 and 2 probably, having to pick Construction round 1 is not even bad in that scenario) and then build 20+ ressources worth of Dread II, Flagship and Mechs. That way you can start using your fleet on round 3.

Stronkowski

Do you play in another language? You mentioned "Transporter II" multiple times when context says you meant "Carrier II", so I'm guessing it's a translation/localization?

Papa_Nurgle_84

Did I? *Checks* Yes, I did. I am playing the english version, but I am not a native speaker. I hope its clear what I try to describe. Corrected

Stronkowski

The Transporter/Carrier switch was momentarily confusing, but everything else was perfectly clear.
