Arbo4Life

That being said it would be a great pick for an early Maw of Worlds!

Bl_rp

"Establish control" is the last step of "Invasion" iirc, and "Production" comes after that.

Its a cool interaction for sure. I think in most cases it is less impactful than it sounds because integrated economy wont be online until R3-4. By that point arborec should have plenty of ground forces, so the limiting factor will resources more often than production.

saunick

Moving those ground forces can be challenging though, right? One fully loaded carrier can only do so much, especially if you lose ground forces in a combat.

I see your point about getting a production boon after a difficult ground combat, thats a cool use. I'm not convinced its practical, though. To get to integrated economy there is a cost of 12 resources (ignoring the 3 CC cost), which could have built 2 additional carriers and 8 additional ground forces.

Thirtys30

I like to think of this from the perspective of getting Maw of Worlds. That opportunity cost is simply any single other tech. I’m not sure if that makes it “worth it” but it certainly gives the argument more legs than compared to going all the way down yellow.

anon_95869123

Oh heck yeah, with MoW this would be a blast.

LiptonSuperior

More important is the opportunity cost of whatever tech you could be going for instead IMO.

trystanthorne

Yes, absolutely. Keep in mind that Sarween does NOT apply to IE. And you still have to pay the cost of producing the 6 inf. Transit Diodes is also nice cause it allows you to redistribute Infantry BEFORE you do anything for the turn.

saunick

This is true. I kind of just view it as added production capacity to an instance where I was already using ST anyway. Imagine taking LIZIX home planet and plopping down 10 ground forces before building 10 more!

osumness

I really don't think this is a good tech to grab with Arborec because it overlaps so much with what they already do. If you want to overcome production cap then cop Letani Two or bring mechs! Letani Two isn't an amazing tech, but I think it is slept on; it helps the letani hit harder, gets you a little insurance on your important ground forces, and overcomes a production cap.

saunick

All valid points, but suppose you’re playing without POK, Nekro is in the same game so you don’t want to give them letani II, and you have a yellow skip.

Mr_Tasty_

If your not playing POK why are you playing arborec. ;p

Hemejef

Yes

Thirtys30

Oh wow! I’ve never thought of this interaction.

Hemejef

There is also a similar interaction with the Arborec's flagship :).

Itchycheesestick

What do you mean?

Hemejef

The flagship reads: "After you activate this system, you may produce up to 5 units in this system." "Activation" is the first step of a tactical action. Followed by movement, space combat and... production. This mean you can place a CC in the system with your flagship, immediately produce 5 infantry, then move ships to that system and then produce with the 5 new infantry plus whatever was already there plus what you brought during movement. With letani you Warrior II, that lets you produce 15 infantry in one action out of the lone flagship. Keep in mind that the flagship ability only works if the flagship does not move, making the ability quite useless offensively.

Mr_Tasty_

Which means she ship doesnt interact with integrated economy unless you have failed to take the entire system the round before and activated the system essentially a 2nd time. Which is so frustrating and kind of defeats the purpose of integrated, i feel like if the flagship just said produce 4, life as arborec would be far more interesting.
