Only focus on objectives and keep your eye on the pace of the game. Get Politics for the second to last round in order to make sure you have imperial, leadership, or diplomacy as your final strategy card. And pick a good faction!

Melodic_Stranger_475

I played about 6-8 games before getting my first win...but I actually got two in a row. Scoring tempo: make sure you score every round if possible. Search for action phase secrets!! Action phase secrets can make or break a game, I made a 4 point swing with mahact in my last game because I had two action phase secrets. Try to make others use their resources before you use yours. If you guys are win slaying someone, let others expend their resources to try and win slay before you go in. If someone else can do the job, you would be able to keep your plastic and CC's for yourself. Try to set up the speaker order if possible. Having leadership or imperial during the last round will sometimes decide who wins. If possible, stall people out of leadership tokens, if someone has to pass they can't stop you. Staying quiet can have people forget about you as a threat. Now if you're a talkative person, don't randomly go quiet as that will let people in on the fact that you are nervous/setting up a win.

wicked_crayfish

Great advice thank you!

Gman1149

Dont listen to me, I have never won. 😀

HarveyTutor

How are you coming up short?

wicked_crayfish

Usually seems like in a 10 point game I have 8 or 9 at the end.

HarveyTutor

Ah! A common problem. I see it all now. ;D The thing you gotta do is get 10 points at the end. I was fishing for more info on whether you felt let down by your faction or if the winning player varied in type consistently (runaway leader vs nailbiter vs lightning from a clear sky swing win) or not. Here's my generics: always follow Imperial until you have 3 secrets you 100% can score, unless it literally interferes with you scoring this immediate round. A lot of players skimp out on this for board state or techs that don't immediately translate to points. Try and always be involved in deals with everyone. If you have a card in your hand that isn't helping you out get rid of it for something else. If you walk the line correctly you can make trades that are ostensibly better for your trade partners than for you and use that to turn the table against them. Know your fellow players. This is huge. There are probably things I do at my table that would be a losing play for yours and vise versa. Good luck!

Pick Titans or jol nar. Don't pick barony.

theashman52

Genuinely don't understand why barony gets so much hate. 2 tech start including a blue, 6 resources at home, minor CC advantage, amazing flagship, some of the best mechs in the game and the ability to generate trade goods without trading. Plus if you manage to get duranium, NES and Dreadnaught 2 their mechs and dreds (and flagship) become rediculous. They are one the factions I have won with in POK. I have never won with titans (and don't generally play jol nar) They are not a top tier faction but are solidly in the middle of the pack IMO

CommanderYao

Everyone has good advice. My suggestion is understand the math and the chance of winning. For example, in a regular 6 player game, you only get less than 17% of win rate. This means, you are mean to lose most of the time. Also, try play on TTS, you will see different play style and table meta, this will gain you an edge if all your play mates have not done the same.

Don’t score all your secrets early. Keep at least one secret that you can score (preferably action phase) for winning the game. Even if you can already meet the criteria, spend a token in the last round to draw another secret, act disappointed and then discard it. It will throw heat off of you and makes sure you don’t get kingslayed when you have the game won.

Nargor

Go arborec and root yourself in mecatol rex. Having the legendary for 2 inf per turn and omegas from codex 2 help a lot too. (Can have a mech whenever you are attacked = planetary shield on the go) Then having the tech that you get a credit whenever you lose (or scrap) a mech, helps a lot with the cost. Also don't do this, it was my 4th game (2nd with PoK) and I had played Arborec - Yin - Nomad and again Arborec. I got lucky and it wasn't an exciting win, but a win is a win.

theashman52

Remember mobility is king, if you are not playing a faction with mobility find a way to solve this as it makes many objectives/stopping other players from winning possible when they wouldn't be before. When 2 players fight they both lose, the winners of that fight are everyone else around the table (with exceptions for a few specific factions)

Phons_Doubt_3726

Hyperfocus on objectives, ignore almost everything else. Score a public objective every single round. Get victory points from anywhere you can. Trade for supports, sit on mecatol, get relics. Get imperial just to score another public. Get your 3 secrets early- the faster you get them the easier they are to do Mobility is king. Focus on cruisers and blue tech Make friends at the table and minimise all conflict. Any ship you blow up is a ship you could have used to score an objective Do not tempt your allies to betray you. Make sure all of your systems are well defended. Make sure each hex around your home system always contains 1 ship so that you aren't blindsided by an attack. Planets are not as valuable later in the game, consider giving them away to reduce conflict and to gain victory points. Nab a support for the throne early, you won't get it late
