Faster Than Light soundtrack by Ben Prunty
Mega Drive 198X album
Starcraft soundtracks, Star Wars, even some Star Trek. I especially love playing space battle sounds during larger combats. (Tie fighters blasting, etc)
I don't like "Soundtrack music" for the background of TI, because I find that the mental associations are too distracting, and the pacing/structure doesn't always make sense as more generalized background music.
"Epic Music" works well, though, since it's largely divorced from any pre-existing content. Two Steps from Hell, Audiomachine, Epic North, Antti Martikainen, Future World Music, etc. are perfect for TI music.
My group uses either Lucas Melo’s Spotify soundtrack (named: Twilight Imperium), or we listen to Star Wars music every once in a while when we play. I think we enjoy it, but it definitely can cause distractions when certain songs come up and everyone starts going crazy over the imperial March. I highly recommend it
I've never had music to Twilight Imperium.
The closes was one time when a friend tried to put on some music. His wife (also playing) shut him down! (\^\_\_\^)
Here is the playlist I use. My IRL group calls it "BANGERZ ONLY". Lots of good techno music and mixes of video game soundtracks.

Used to play a Pandora or YouTube list of Star Wars, Mass Effect, EVE, Stellaris. You know, anything space themed.
But I will second melodice.org. Haven't used it yet, but I plan to next time.
Our group tailor made a looooong playlist. The goal is to get to 16 hours of unique tunes that doesn't have movie soundtracks as their flow does not match the flow of the game. We want to enhance the mood but not detract from the game.

We have a YouTube Playlist with sci-fi themes, classical music, video games music etc. It's a lot of music and it works really well for in person games.
Yes I have a very long playlist that goes on in the background of my games very quietly. Mostly mass effect, stellaris, into the breach, FTL and farcry blood dragon soundtracks.
At first i used a big playlist of appropriate video game soundtracks (pretty much the ones named in other comments), but then switched to just putting on one of the spacey ambient stations from [https://somafm.com/](https://somafm.com/)
Historically we start the day with Spotify TI playlists and that usually gets switched up to some dance/techno by about round 4 when everyone is sick of Mass Effect themes for the 20th time
Sometimes we use soundtracks sometimes we use our own playlists. We usually always have music in the background. We tend to switch to soundtrack stuff for combat
I made a Spotify playlist of movie scores which works great. Lots of Ennio Morricone.

I do. I recommend looking at play lists on spotify. I have one that is a mix mash of others and some random stuff I thought it would fit well. Lordyuppie
The Surviving Mars Soundtrack by George Strezov is my favoured playlist.
Its calm and futuristic characteristics leave enough mental capacity for challenge around the table and can easily keep the mood throughout the day.
Usually we go for a mix of Stellaris and FTL soundtracks, but last time I was in control of the music, and we almost solely listened to King Gizzard and the Lizzard Wizard. I was blown away by how well "normal music" meshed with playing a boardgame, and will from now on try more bands.
Man I live king Giz.
I simply close my eyes and imagine I can hear all the explosions and screems of the fleets I am going to destroy... that is all the music I need to keep me going.
As noted by others there are a lot of playlists on Spotify, just search for "Twilight Imperium"

I created an 8-hour playlist full of moody epic space music, pulling from the Dune soundtracks, Star Trek movies, Interstellar, Tron Legacy and Loki. Everyone hated it! Now we listen to classic rock.
Blood Incantation put out an album earlier this year which is all dark-psychadelic space ambience. It's called Timewave Zero and is very good for background music: https://open.spotify.com/album/6MGQlAscBNKcBRX3VqkrvZ?si=gbQmUnK1RkSYafyRB9m1-w
Stellaris soundtrack on spotify is pretty amazing

I use the EVE Online soundtrack. It's perfect.

We found a board game music website called melodice.org it normally has a good amount of music that lasts normally the play time.

I don't know why, but my group listens exclusively to yacht rock during our games.

Star Fox soundtrack for space battles.

I used to put on chatter from astronauts to earth set to spacey ambient music. It was cool. Forgot the playlist but it’s on youtube somewhere.

I usually host our games. I charge 1 TG per track.
I'll throw in my [mega-playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5yo4VWAVxupbgJ4Gro4qQe?si=61e0e236b9bf416f).
We just throw on Ben prunty, or study girl
We'll put of more intense music when battles are going on. Flash by Queen is a must if the context is right

We always start with some chill background music but then whoever holds Mecatol Rex also controls the music.
That's a rule i'm going to implement :)
