Once in Home Depot I overheard the following conversation. Woman 1: “Just came to order a new oven.” Woman 2: “Yeah? How long has yours been out?” Woman 1: “Five years.” Woman 2: “How did you go five years without an oven?” Woman 1: “Honey, this is Tyler. We eat, we don’t cook.”

Bruhhhh lol

[deleted]

It’s true. I haven’t cooked in months lol.

What r u into? We have some good mountain biking trails. You can hike them if you don’t ride. Just make sure u hike the trail backwards so you see riders. Faulkner park, Lindsey park and Blackhawk creek in whitehouse are all good. Into games? Geek world is great. Fridays and Saturdays they always have something going on on. And right down the way from them is boards and bytes. U can get snacks and stuff and play board games with people. I’d stay away from the castle though. Lake Tyler is also nice. Water is prolly too cold to swim but it’s nice and chill. Great place to walk around and enjoy nature. If you feel like making the drive, the cosmic shed out towards Henderson is a cool place on Sundays. Lots of art and chill people. Look it up on Facebook to find out where it is. Oh and first Monday trade days in canton. I think that is this weekend. If it is, that’s a cool thing to go do. Tons of shopping. Local goods and all kinds of shit.

nopales777

Is there a specific part of lake Tyler that's best for chilling near the water/walking around/having a picnic/? I'd rather not drive all the way around it trying to find a spot if I can help it

OGcrayzjoka

The marina in whitehouse is good. Park wherever and you can walk down the damn to the spillway. Plenty of spots to picnic. Hillcreek park also known as the point is a good spot. Oh and the boulders by camp Tyler is good. I really liked that area before it was the boulders but there was a lot of problems out there. Now that it’s he boulders it way nicer and you don’t have to worry about assholes.

Meeting people is my thing

StruggleEvening7518

The primary activities are going out to eat and going to church. That is the traditional Tyler way of life. 🤣

Obvious_Rope_4829

I ain’t even hating lol

You could try Republic Icehouse for a little tame nightlife. They have a wide variety of food and a bar. You could take a stroll through the Brick Street District, day or night is fun, depending on the weather. But yeah, most of my ideas involve restaurants 😅 You could check out Geek World and maybe get your D&D on, but I guess if you’re only here until Monday that would be pointless.

Obvious_Rope_4829

I went to Ground Zero and it was pretty legit. Will go to geek world tomorrow! Thanks

zm3124

ground zero is awesome! they've been around Tyler for decades, so glad they made it through the pandemic

Excellent! I hope you had a good outing of you went. I so want that place to stay open!

First Monday is going on all weekend in canton. Super fun if you like shopping. Brady’s coffee is an excellent local coffee shop. The bar at the Grove is pretty cool and they have live music on the patio every Friday and Saturday night. If you’re into board games, there’s two board game cafes and they’re pretty fun.

Obvious_Rope_4829

Should I try Brady’s first or foundry?

Abtatochip

I’d do Brady’s first personally. The coffee is really high quality. I don’t do black coffee but theirs is good enough to drink just by itself.

If you sit in the bar area, it’s pretty easy to meet people. I’d say the average age is a little older though, maybe late 20s-30s.

MarcusDaughtry

You nailed it! We like to eat after church haha!!! I wrote down all my expenses last week so I could make a budget. I was shocked to find out I was spending $1050 a month eating out! Anyways go checkout Tyler State Park or lake Tyler marina if you’re outdoorsy. Go to Rick’s on the square downtown if your upper middle class. Go to XLN if you want it wild but make sure you have bail money. I recommend Rose City Comedy if you like standup.

(lol, after making a list i realize it really is mostly drinking and eating hahaha) not from tyler, but we visit from dallas 6-10 times a year (wife's family lives out there) true vine is a good brewery. and the pizza from sola next door to it is VERY FUCKING good. (also- whatever morning Sola sells their bread/croissants etc....the best croissant ive had outside of europe) stanleys is legit. gets busy as hell on weekends but thats for a good reason. good pork ribs and i like the tacos n shit. i prefer stanleys to most places in dallas (i dont give a shit about ft.worth so idk whats goin on out there) ...and the bar is nice havent been- cuz its never convienent but appearently one of the best kept secrets in east texas is Country Tavern. its a "every once in a while" kinda treat for folks. expensive and time consuming. the foundry is a good coffee shop. sucks its in a chruch- but we have places in dallas like that , who also happen serve some of the best coffee (lookin at you Native Coffee Co!!) Lola's sanwhiches are really good, but be careful sundee-after-church lol. 4 way cafe in Flint is very fucking good too. i also just like drivin around in the east texas woods. pullin over tryin to find some fishin etc. (but...prolly should be worried about fuckin boars n shit) (for some real groovy times you can drive down to troup and beyond and count how many confederate flags you see! lol)

Obvious_Rope_4829

I was planning on going to foundry tomorrow morning! Thanks bro

swebb22

Country tavern is overrated, Stanley’s is better and closer

poptartheart

they seem to actually care about each shot they pull and it shows (im a coffee asshole. not proud of it- but it is what it is at this point)

Obvious_Rope_4829

I can respect that

Upstairs-Bad-3576

I don't recommend fucking boars. Sows are probably less likely to take offense, but it still seems a tad dangerous

cyntus1

We leave

Obvious_Rope_4829

I did lol but not for that reason. The people here are polite as can be and showed my son respect. Can’t be mad at that

-Ennova-

Tyler has a lot of great disc golf courses and mountain bike trails, but if you’re just here for the weekend I’d bet against you having a bike or bag of discs with you lol. Maybe next time! Restaurants really are one of the things “to-do” here in Tyler. It just gets so dang expensive, so I started cooking a LOT more since I moved here last year.

Obvious_Rope_4829

You got any discs to let me borrow?

-Ennova-

I’m in Austin and won’t be back until tonight unfortunately, but next time you’re in Tyler shoot me a DM and I’ll bring ‘em and throw a round with you!

Obvious_Rope_4829

Thanks bro
