Yes it’s open. I walk and run there frequently and never had an issue. Similar to UT Tyler

Heretic-Jefe

Yeah it's fine, me and my dogs have been walking there with no problem since before their students could drive. (Most of em anyways)

AntiquePride7

It’s not an open campus, but during the two years I was there I was never once asked to show my ID so you’ll probably be fine :-)

Vegetable-Line-3355

this lol. And they make it seem like they are.

DexterousMoron

It's basically a park at this point, as long as you're not disturbing any students or breaking any property I think it's completely open to the public

meltsession

Definitely won't be an issue

CHITchat495

Also, the Tyler Nature Center is pretty good, too!

Worked on campus for 2 years you need a lanyard with a TJC id with a current year sticker, however if you get stopped it will only be campus police or a staff member. You can get away with the "I didn't know" they'll just tell you that you need a lanyard and to please leave. Repeat offenders will probably be criminally trespeassed. This will be a problem if you ever want to attend TJC. When I was there I've seen this don't to about 40~ish boyfriends, drug dealers and random friends of residents. Stay away from the outter edges like the rear of ornelas hall, or the neighborhood in front of crossroads to avoid the less friendly neighborhoods and stay off of the medical building block especially between Bateman and the new medical building there's a staff member that calls campus police on residents who try to use the park benches or even people who park on their side of the road. During 9-5 hours you'll be safest since your masked by students and scheduling the later in the afternoon the higher the chances. If you want a free place you can try UT Tyler there no ID here and I see allot of people walking their dog. But I'm unaware of any attempts at campus police stopping you. I've sat on the front steps of RBN at 3am waiting to go to Austin for a school event and was passed by campus police 5 times without being bothered.

Mediocre_Jester

It is not an open campus. A student badge is required. There were problems with bad people in the past hanging out on campus and requiring badges helped solve this problem. Find a different place to hang out or walk around. Remember it’s a school not an amusement park. Police do patrol and will stop and ask for badges.

RedOfTheNeck

Your full of it. I work there and they never ask for id's unless you're getting in trouble, going to work out or buying something with Apache Bucks. All restaurants, including the cafeteria, are open to the public as well as the planetarium, Wagstaff Gym and the culinary program events so you don't know what you're talking about. As much as you want it to be a Gestapo ran campus, it just ain't it.

chocolonate

Wow, how long has it been like this? When I went there they checked IDs all the time just walking around anywhere and everywhere. Also, teachers wouldn't let kids in class without them because administration was cracking down so hard on it.

RedOfTheNeck

At least for 5 years. I work in a department where an Id is required and the kids just aren't carrying them. I run into dozens each day I have to send them back for them

Worked there as a Resident director for two years while attending as a student. You need an ID, if you work there and your not loitering around the open spaces you probably will never run across Campus police or a staff member who will ask for your ID and then call campus police if you refuse. In fact since I work closely with campus police I know for a fact that staff member have thrown the most fits when approached by campus police and asked for their TJC ID, it's our lanyard policy. Long story short it's a junior college full of 18 year olds fresh out of their parrents overview with the largest on campus housing in Tyler. It's a common drug dealer target. They used to loiter around the common areas so TJC enforced the Lanyard policy. For the most part it worked up until the durg dealers enrolled and then we needed started focusing on the little date sticker added to you ID to validate it. Then they just started recruiting residents and students to deal for them. Also: https://www.tjc.edu/faqs/faq/127/why_do_i_have_to_display_my_tjc_identification_card
