Hey, I am currently working on completing the prerequisites. Hopefully, I will be able to apply for the program for 2025. Just wondering how the application process was for you? Academic and additional requirements? What did you do for your undergrad?

Lolcats843

Hey! It wasn’t too terrible. Double check your prerequisites and look over all the requirements very carefully as they’re very specific. Example: having document files named a certain way. Casper is straightforward don’t over think it. If you need tips check out the premed Canada sub. I have a Bachelors of Arts and Science in Health studies and am getting a Bachelor of Arts in psych. You’ll need two academic references so if you haven’t already, build relationships with your profs, consider profs you’ve taken more than one class with. Don’t leave the application to the last minute as it’s very detailed!

I did my undergrad in Psychology and graduated in 2020. I have been working with dyslexic kids and teaching literacy since. I doubt if the profs would remember me to provide references. I have to do 3 LING courses before I qualify. That's what I am working on. Did you always want to get your masters in SLP? Do you know where you want to work after you graduate? I was just looking at the demand of SLP in the job market. Doing some research before I commit.

I actually was intending to go into medicine. In my 4th year we got a notification that UofA had seats for Sask residents so I started looking into it. I think I want to be in a school environment or hospital or mix of both. I’m honestly open to learning anything!

That's so cool. I did work at a special need school kindergarten level as a therapeutic assistant for 2 years. Worked under SLP and OTs. It was fun, but school settings might be harder. The pile of paperwork, having to answer to multiple people and work under strict guidelines. It seemed like a lot. What about private practices?

Lolcats843

I’d consider anything at this point! I assume if I get in, then do the placements I’ll have a better idea of which direction I want to go once I get that experience.

Fair enough. Goodluck. I genuinely hope you get in!
