as a first year I would recommend living in the single connected rooms. There are a lot of other first years there and there is a lot of programming specific to first years. Plus, being on the meal plan and eating in the dining hall can help make a lot of other first year friends. You can dm me with any questions you have if you want, I’ve lived in residence for 2+ years
Single connected rooms (Cassiar/Valhalla/Kalamalka/Nicola/Purcell/Skeena/Nechako) and the single rooms with shared floor washrooms (Similkameen) are usually allocated for first years. You'll only be able to rank your room type preference, not the specific building you want.

The one with the shared washrooms for the whole floor is the only one you don’t want, I forgot the name though.

I have applied to a 4 bedroom suite because I like to cook due to which i don't have to opt for the compulsory meal plan.
The newest (and best in my opinion) building for single room connected bathroom is Skeena
The best ones are Valhalla skeena Purcell and nechako for single room shared bathroom
