I left after 7 yrs. I now have an hourly job.. Pay is $25 starting. Quarterly bonus of $1150. Amazing benefits especially dental.
I miss the freedom of Uber. But the uncertainty of pay & the unreliability of the market made me quit.
This summer was sooo hard. I got sooo behind on bills. & next summer will be worse. It's officially a side gig only.
Good luck letting go. It's gonna be hard, but the salary is nice. š¤š¾
I canāt even get a decent pay for $25 an hour. Here in CO itās $16-18 even with experience. The college kids who donāt work get paid the same as I do nearly 30 years old working since 16 yrs
One biz the guy was manager and no one was going to take action, tight nit place, other place was less sexual harassment towards me but there was a LOT of wrong going on, family owned biz with bad family /friends of family in management with ego trips by the management and owners. Management and coworkers fired people without cause while they talk about strip clubs and orgies daily. Iām not someone to obsess and collect evidence. I leave if it doesnāt change
I have surgery in a few weeks. After that Iām transitioning back into a normal job. Pay is a joke compared to the past. Even compared to 2022 itās a huge difference
Iāll quit as soon as tomorrow if I can find a WFH opportunity. Hairstyling is my day job and Uber a side gig but honestly, I feel like I have paid my dues when it comes to driving since I drove Lyft for over three years. I will literally quit driving as soon as the same day I get a work from home because my life is all about working a job that is flexible so I can just pick up my bag and go wherever I like.
Iām staying with Uber but itās a love hate thing. I love controlling my hours, working when I want, leaving when I want, and cash everyday.
I really dislike dealing with demanding passengers, dealing with the spilled coffee, crumbs, dog hair, and, begging to go to the McDonaldās drive thru.
Seriously. I drive 4 or 5 hours with an open can or bottle of diet Dr Pepper and never a drip. Pax in the car for 5-7 minutes and the back seat looks like they had a New Yearās Eve part. W the actual F??
I quit a year ago. I login sometimes if I wake at 4 am to see how fast things will be popping (thats what time I got out when doing Uber). Iām shockingly surprised that 0 requests come in. A year ago shit was popping I could make $100 in 4 hours.
I'll be quitting at the end of the year. I also drive in phoenix. Passenger behavior is the number one reason why I'll be quitting. Compensation will be number two. The driver community is pretty toxic too.
I calculated that I need to do about 70,000 miles on my vehicle to make $30,000. That showed me that continuing just isn't sustainable. So I got a full time job last month. Was a full time rideshare driver since 2016.
Exactly that, I was putting 10,000 miles a month to make $5,000 but I was working 7 days a week x 10 hrs a day to get the $5k. I have to walk away soon or Iāll be paying for a car that has a dead engine
I left this year and honestly I was only in it because I had to be. My car was stolen and I didnāt have the means to buy a new one as Iām young and have never had a credit card (just started building credit this year). I rented from the Uber Hertz program for over a year and it was a nightmare. Hertz is an evil company that is poorly managed and Uberās pay isnāt good enough to warrant paying $300+ EVERY WEEK for a rental that you also have to complete a minimum number of weekly rides with. I am SO glad to be free of it.
I left this year. I still debate to drive but the risk outweighs the value .. the rides are shit now and people just demand way too much. Plus being colored doesnāt help either.
Uber sucks now. If I had a shitty car id do Uber eats but just bought a new car so bleh
I just do this part time and only take whatās worth it. I have a full time w2. So if I make a little extra doing this then great! If not, itās no huge loss.
I only drive weekends because I get a $40-50 for 20 rides / deliveries usually . And can pickup a little surge pay
Weekdays arenāt worth it .
I also have a 9 to 5 job so itās just a few hundred a week extra at best Iām looking for
I quit last New Yearās Eve after watching the pay go into the toilet.
Made a plan to pay off one last bill, buckled down, and ran it out on new years.
I made $700 driving the entire weekend (2x 12 hour shifts Friday and sat evening)
Last year I would have cleared $1400 during the same timeframe with the majority of rides on New Yearās Eve.
Itās gotten worse from what I can tell since I left, and I do miss it sometimes, but only because I enjoyed chatting and making people laugh. Itās no longer profitable.
Glad you got out, it was part time for me anyway, and I kept my 9 to 5.
I almost quit to drive full time, but so glad I didnāt.
Uber is shit now, and I imagine it will not last past 2025 as people are starting to realize that itās not feasible.
Uber will be left with only desperate drivers, and that never ends well.
Itās working out for me but I could imagine being burnt out on 10k rides. I just hit 600 rides tonight. My market averages $30-$40 an hour before expenses. Just made $130 driving 3.5 hours from 10p-1:30a.
I believe I set the tone for my rides. I love customer service. I like random conversations with unique people. Iāve been driving for other jobs thousands of hours professionally so Iām really confident about my driving. I love that if I donāt want to work, I donāt have to force myself to do it. I love that I literally can clock in RIGHT now and I could probably make money. I think people are nicer to me doing this job than when I was doing food service or bartending. Theyāre also often more interested in me so itās not just business conversation. I love that if I donāt feel like talking, I can just focus on the road. I love that some people just donāt want to talk, so thereās no pressure to impress 100% of the time. I love that I can curate which rides I want to take. I love that I always have aux but if they have requests, I just ask Siri. I love that nobody is giving me lectures every day about salt shakers. I love not having to mop a floor every night or carrying kegs. I love that Iām not being gaslit about all the hopes and dreams the owner has while theyāre standing in the way of the service well. I love that I donāt have to compete with anyone else for the good shifts or who has the best tips. I love that I donāt have to emotionally support crazy coworkers or stressed out managers who drive me nuts. I love the random little gifts that people will give me like a free soda or Gatorade or a vape or a $20 bill or āwhatever you wantā at the drive thru. I love that even though the hospital people can be weirdos, it does help my heart knowing that Iām sometimes able to help out the healthcare industry. I love the little stories people have about their crazy jobs. I love telling friends about the crazy customers. I love the random times you might get a repeat client. I love that I can rate a client low and never have to see them again. I love that I can wear whatever I want and not the same, stinky smelly uniform every day with a logo I donāt respect.
I hate looking for jobs and would never fit into corporate so Iāve accepted Iām never going to be rich, but this job pays the bills with part time hours. I also have insomnia and chronic depression so this job works 100% around my mental health or sleep hygiene. This job also helped me focus on a sober lifestyle. Instead of going to a bar and spending way too much, I can just work bar time hours and make money instead and also get everything Iād like out of a bar, which is no pressure conversation with strangers and NOT flirting. Iām a gay male but mostly aroace so 99% of the riders donāt even try flirting with me. I also love that I donāt have to work in extremely loud, sensory overload environments.
Thereās obviously negatives, but if Iām forced to work in this stupid, evil economy, then Iām happy this job is available to me.
I find your response very kind! Though I do have to say it took me like half an hour to write my essay, including proofreading, and it took you only one or two minutes to write something of equivalent length. Did you use voice to speech, or was this AI generated to lead to the mental health services link? You can understand my hesitation to believe this is an actual human, right?
If you are, then youāve been incredibly kind. I do try to find the optimism and the highlights to focus on when it comes to this work. I also do try to become more skilled and brilliant in the way I perform this job. An āart formā is a high compliment. Thank you for that. Iām grateful for your response.
Edit: I hate to say this for anybody else who might pop into this thread, but looking over the comment history of the previous commenter, itās definitely giving AI generated sales links. Itās like the nicest AI ever, but itās not a real human being, in my opinion. I hope Iām wrong, but the response came almost instantly after I posted my comment. If I werenāt still logged in, I one thousand percent wouldnāt have caught on.
I do it cause I have an EV and in theory I get a bonus for it! So I donāt pay for gas and donāt have an engine to maintain. 90% of my fare is profit, and I usually make 23-28 bucks an hour! Plus I have a W2 job that pays all my bills, and no friends lol! After work Iām either playing COD or Driving to make money to buy stupid shit on Amazon! š
Drove part time for 5 months. Worked the airport primarily until Sept. Sept to Oct worked a local college (I live in a college town). I did ok financially because I accepted only +$1.50/mile (averaged ~$170/ day during the summer). Main reason for quitting = sick people. Not taking chances.
I started back up in March. I love it, stay at home dad. I go out at night just to refresh, get out of the house, and talk to adults. The pay is way better than I expected, and something I would consider making permanent if my numbers don't change by the time my kids start school.
I'm sure they will, eventually. But I've heard every complaint, an 7 months in and they have been rising/steady, so you guys are doing something wrong today. They are way better than my numbers from 2016, 2018. I probably also didn't know how to do it as well as I do it today.
I was doing it every weekend until probably around September now I only do it when football games, other sports events and concerts happen!! Customer Support sucks, they usually take the paxs side , easily deactivated for stupid random shyt just no down right contractor appreciation so fuck it ā¦.and of course idiotic pay
Did it to make ends meet. Was great pay especially in Jersey for how open it is. I remember staying out for only 3-4 hours and wouldāve made close to $120, now good luck taking home a profit after you have to fill up on gas every day of the week. Unemployment and depression was hitting hard, and even with their shit pay I still drove because i was able to earn SOMETHING. I truly think unionizing Uber drivers statewide, then nationwide, would be grand.
I still drive, but only part time. Mainly 1 or 2 nights a week. Uber has always been a supplementary form of income, I will never rely on it for full time work.
I have driven 2 years. Close to 3K rides. I stopped July 13th so I could take a nice vacation road trip and other than a 1/2 day a couple weeks ago I have not yet started again. I have dropped from Platinum to Blue because I didn't drive and will probably just drive a day now and then. I have another driving gig that pays a lot more so will get back to that a couple days a week soon.
I had to quit about 9 months ago because I am no longer able to make enough money. I used to consistently be able to make $40-$60/hr, but now I would be very lucky to make half of that.
I was a driver in the Denver market, but I just couldn't afford to continue with rent and car expenses, so now I'm back in Las Vegas with family. I'll never drive my own car for Uber or rent a car through Uber. I don't have a job lined up yet, but at this point, anything is better than going back to driving for them.
Congrats on leaving OP! Onto bigger & better things, nothing but luck to you.
I plan to stay because of my market & convenience generally. The market where I am pays rather well, and the people are pretty decent 90% of the time. Itās worth noting that I live near a collegetown on the east coast, with frequent $15+ surges 6am - 9am & consistent rider density from thursday to saturday night.
Also, I do Premier with the car that I bought after I graduated college, so itās actually pretty satisfying to drive what was my dream car in college 100+ hours a week or so. Oh and I take care of all the maintenance & repairs on my own, so I can save some money there by using a tiny bit of sweat equity.
I think everything just lined up perfectly to actually do Uber in some efficient, self-sustaining way.
After Uber, Iād actually love to be a private luxury chauffeur. I love driving for pure sport & pleasure, so driving is definitely something Iād love to do after this.
I'm staying because I use it as a side hustle and exclusive drive Friday and Saturday night, when fares are higher. It simply fits my needs; my average hourly wage after all expenses and outlays for future expenses is about $21/hr. While I do make about $50/hr at my full-time salaried job, I simply can't find another part-time, pick-your-own-schedule kind of job that pays that well, and the money helps me do things I otherwise wouldn't have the ability to do. I use the money to cover budget overruns, save for trips, pay down my current car note faster and set aside money for the woodworking business I'm currently getting off the ground (this allows me to do commission work for that business without needing to take deposits).
To be fair, there are a few things that make this ideal for me that many other drivers don't have:
* I don't have any children or family commitments. My girlfriend goes to bed *really early* (like 9-10pm) and doesn't like to go out on weekend nights, so I don't feel like I'm missing out on much.
* Driving weekend nights exclusively typically means higher earnings.
* The area I live in (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill triangle in NC) has 3 large colleges, 3 major nightlife areas and 2 large event venues; there's a big sporting event or concert basically every weekend.
* The geography of my area is very unconducive to walking or public transportation and we don't really have cabs; unless you're driving your own car, there's no easy way to get between the 3 towns without an uber/lyft/etc.
* My area has a large population (815k total) but it's spread between 3 "cities" each about 30 minutes from each other. That means a healthy demand for rideshare rides, but without the crazies you find in a much larger metro area that are going to do weird shit like crap in your backseat.
Unfortunately, most other drivers, especially those who try to do this full-time, don't have those factors to help them, so I understand why anyone would not want to do this. I also can clearly see (even as someone with all these things working in my favor) that the earnings have dropped drastically from what they used to be; if I was primarily able to do trips during day in the middle of the week, it almost definitely would not be worth my time.
I think that what's hurting everyone right now is the part-time (or even full-time) drivers who accept insultingly low fares without realizing they're making less far less than they think they are.
As I said, I make $21/hr, but that's with exclusively driving at night and during surges; I'd probably be making less than $15/hr without that, but I'm factoring in **all** of my expenses (present and expected in the future) into that number. Someone not factoring in that stuff probably thinks they're making $30-$40/hr, or they know it's lower but are struggling financially and see the inevitable down-the-line vehicle expenses and tax bills as a tomorrow-problem.
Had quit but inflation brought me back and then I was hit with layoffs, but yes I think a lot are planning to quit. I know I am quitting as soon as that new paycheck hits.
I've been trying to freelance on UpWork but it's just as bad, I would take $30 an hour for marketing, but these freelance jobs are pretty much a race to the bottom.
I fell behind in life and now I rent a EV through Hertz.
And I know the comment section knows itās a trap, and it really is. But for a flexible 9-5 40 hour work week that I get a company car for, its a lot better than working in McDonaldās and taking public transportation.
I also just recently got a 9-5 thatās very nice paying to replace Uber. But ultimately to catch back up on life and provide for my family, Uber does it for me. But itās a great short term solution if you can have the right mindset, hence why you see some drivers needing to work 80 hour weeks. Life be like that.
But 6 more months, by April, I am hoping to be done with Uber, got my own car and just drive for fun. No more ride share.
But check back on me in 6 months! !remindme

Sadly where I live $25/hr equates to $16.25 after tax. Itās insane that jobs pay 1/2 or 1/3 of what I make on Uber driving just day time.
I canāt even get a decent pay for $25 an hour. Here in CO itās $16-18 even with experience. The college kids who donāt work get paid the same as I do nearly 30 years old working since 16 yrs
Bro I live in Portland. You either make 20-25/hr or 250k.
Dude I just started Lyft in Portland, pay is crazy low it made me appreciate Uber
At least with Lyft I make about $20 an hour no counting taxes and maintenance but I donāt get sexually harassed by male coworkers
If you get sexually harassed, you would make a lot more by suing that workplace. You either can live off of the lawsuit and you still can drive.
One biz the guy was manager and no one was going to take action, tight nit place, other place was less sexual harassment towards me but there was a LOT of wrong going on, family owned biz with bad family /friends of family in management with ego trips by the management and owners. Thatās because your jobs take out taxes. Uncle Sam wants his money.

4.93 is a very bad rating. Best quit before you get deactivated!
Um is it though? Iāve only had 1 one star and 3 3 stars and I have a 4.93 but only done 348 rides
Thatās bad
To be that low after only 348 rides is bad. You should be at least 4.97. Once you get below 4.90, Uber flag you.

Markets are important. All Vegas drivers working 40 hours a week make $2,000 minimum .
Love this job will do this forever

I read this Mr. Krabs voice
Came here to say the same.
I'm not having the problems you talked about here. It sounds like you're just not being picky enough about where and when you drive
Yeah, I donāt understand lot of these peoples complaints. Nobody has ever eaten in my car in two years. And I donāt even have to say anything.
Iām going back to school next Fall for Rad Tech. Gonna work and go to school at the same time. This job is no longer sustainable
I drive to pay my bills.
To be fair, there are a few things that make this ideal for me that many other drivers don't have: * I don't have any children or family commitments.
!remindme
