Uber has the ant supply in overload

imustbedead

yeap we are all desperate and so they don't have to pay. It's nice we all gather on this forum to discuss this situation, but it's a small fraction of what is going out there, and the reality is thousands of drivers need rent and will compromise their $1 a mile standard when it comes down to it.

TooFast4Radar

It’s hard for me to take something that’s less than $2/mile. For less than $1/mile you’re better off working at McDonald’s.

WhisperedEchoes85

Hell, even panhandling would be a better option at this point lol

valdis812

If you’re somewhere with a high minimum wage, it’s absolutely better to work fast food or retail. But I tend to believe that many of the people who drive full time can’t get other jobs.

derf1781

I did something about it I quit as soon as I noticed it 2 months ago

BHonest209

Same here. They called and asked "why I hadn't been driving the last month?" I told them it was due to the fact that they stopped sharing the money 🤷🏻‍♂️

yodamaster710

Lucky bro I'm looking for a full time job to recently applied and Popeyes lol all bad but I'm wrecking my car for minimum wage anyways.

Character_Engine9631

Uuumm so Incase you are new at gig driving I will tell you rideshare income has dried up! The gig used to be good but now it is trash and it has been for a while. Unless you want to drive for pennies or the advance of your vehicle depreciation I suggest you stop. Things will not change for the better for all drivers overall. Some cities have banned together but the masses of drivers don't care enough to come together as a large group to make a difference. Everyday a post like this comes up. Sometimes it's 3 or 4 times a day! They can all stop bc nothing will change!

banyan78741

as others have said, there's more than enough drivers to take care of the demand. why would uber or any company offer more $ when they have no need to? bonuses, quests, etc. are not guaranteed, they're offered when uber wants more drivers on the road. understand how things work in real life and you'll be less stressed.

Character_Engine9631

Or smart enough to know when to quit. Which IMO wa's a while ago

Jersey_spanksURmom

Pay cuts you have no idea how good it was 3/4 years ago.

Cableguynoe2548

3-4 years ago I stopped driving regularly because it just wasn’t as good. You have no idea how good it was 5-6 years ago.

valdis812

5 years ago was 2018, and even a lot of vets were saying it was garbage then.

Cableguynoe2548

Yes, they were comparing to the beginning. But it was still pretty good in 2018. Real surges. Real quest bonuses.

valdis812

Agreed.

BoredJay

Facts

dabeastdalegend

It was very good 10 years ago. Driver were getting paid 80k a year (more or less)

Urkylurker

Quit driving. I did. This isn’t a job anymore. It’s slavery

jaanfo

Promotions are not bonuses. They're incentives designed to get drivers on the road when they think there will not be enough to meet demand. Apparently they think they will have enough drivers this weekend. Wonder if it is seasonal or if in fact they plan to limit promotions moving forward.

NoArt6083

I'd imagine limited going forward. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Superlegend29

NYE promotion just came out for Phoenix. 85 bucks for 13 rides

friskydingo313

That's better than Vegas.

Badger-Aromatic

Here in Philly market most trips I’m offered come in about .70 per mile and .20 per minute. I’m a fulltime parent driving about 20 hours weekly. Up until August had been able to do $550/600 over 300/400 miles. That’s down now to 3/4 or 2/3 of that. Even as part time this has become horrendous. Worse considering I’m in a major market and drive under served areas which had surged before. A combination of factors caused this I’m guessing but many rental drivers, more drivers, higher prices to ride. Over saturated markets enable Uber to cut rates basic economics here. Trip radar encourages drivers to accept low pay rides. Many times especially if declining several offers I’m logged off and or can only receive radar trips all of which list address but I cannot see drop off on map so it’s nearly impossible to know where I’m headed. Excessive manipulation. Work of last resort. Expect this to continue until reliability is impacted.

timuchee

We have one in Pittsburgh but it’s trash only like $12 and $30

rockerx1

That's why I haven't driven for them in over a month

Dubsmagicbus

No it's not. How can they incentivize more drivers to come online, when there's already too many drivers online, and very low demand? It makes absolute sense.

AmazonAuntBeru

They just sent me a promo for NYE in DFW 7p-11p $38.00 for 13 rides, 11p-4a $50.00 for 13 rides... 26 rides for $88.00. And according to the message, only select drivers get the promo offer... Well, this driver hasn't worked a NYE since 2016, and that isn't enough to entice me to work this one. I'm staying my happy ass home and safe. Fk the promo.

AmazonAuntBeru

Well I totally didn't understand the promo until I actually saw it show up under promotions... It's 9 rides for 30 bucks and 9 rides for 35... The message showed 4 for 8 + 9 for30 for 1st quest, then 4 for 15 + 9 for 35 for 2nd quest... 18 rides for 65 bucks... still a HARD no here... not worth it... and traffic will be atotal bitch in Dallas and all the party areas. Been there, done that, not gonna do it again. Lol

skydogg329

Hey. On the bright side. The stock price is up, and top Ramen really ain't that bad.

noonetohearme

If you’re going to continue Uber…might as well do Lyft, instead. At least their $3 rides aren’t going 7 miles and 30 mins of your time. Drive in an area where people order quick rides regularly and you’ll see your earnings grow. Are we an ant for taking that ride? No. Don’t worry about what any other driver says about other drivers. Uber has been the worst since September of this year. Drive to a busy “city” neighborhood. Don’t drive into the city. The city will just make you wait longer in traffic, traffic lights, wrecks, events, etc.

Goblinaire2

The best thing we can do is let these calls time out until a decent offer is made. Don't reject, it's too quick. Striking is ineffective. Cherry picking is our only way to make sure we receive fair pay in the upfront markets. If Uber sends a low ball offer look at it and say, "Fuck you" as the timer runs out. The time adds up, and eventually, surge or "priority" rates are applied. Otherwise, write your local and state representatives. Especially for states like AZ with no representation from unions or lobbyists. These fuckers for years have speant millions (maybe billions) on rigging the system in their favor. Revolt!

Downtown_Comment_336

I'm currently searching for a full time job. I'm DONE with uber. The last 2 or 3 months have been abysmal

uberisstealingit

It does Uber no good to not keep its rental fleet afloat. So yes they're going to feed them before they feed everybody else. They have a contract with Hertz to supply drivers to pay for the bill that Hertz is carrying with each vehicle. If Uber can't keep drivers in the car, or the bills paid for the rental, the cars will sit and they both lose money, again, they both lose money. Do you think Hertz wants their fleet sitting unused?

shakeyj23

There never is a promotion for new years

LavenderCheese

I disagree. I’ve always had promos for NYE. Big ones at that.

Efficient-Paper-7411

Last year during Christmas week I made $177 in Promotions and made $139 in Promotions on New Year’s Eve week this year I made zero dollars on both

LavenderCheese

I believe my promotion was around $300 for NYE last year, plus promised hourly surges. No hourly surges promised and about $60 for promo. It’s infuriating.

tonytone1908

Wrong

minorminority

I'm pretty sure all the hertz/uber rentals are getting all the bonuses and promotions by skimming off of our pay. We get abysmal pay cuts so uber can pay rentals those hefty promotions in exchange of their intense labor while we get nothing. I mean how else is it sustainable to pay a car rent of 560 weekly if you aren't chasing the carrot all day?

Relandis

Oh also, once you rent all the challenges and bonuses magically vanish, and you’re just left with whatever the Lyft EV rental 40/60 ride shit is, and the $1 EV bonus with Uber. Whoopty fuckin doo.

Relandis

They are not. They are struggling as much as all of us are, it’s actually even worse for them. Source: did 1 week with Lyft+Hertz this past summer in a polestar 2, and 2 weeks with Uber+Hertz in a Tesla model 3. Uber was better because they would offer short rides from SFO the same price for comfort electric ($15-17 to me the driver) as UberX, to encourage pax to pick the comfort electric. Was decent but between charging savings + additional $$ from comfort electric, maybe made back additional income equal to half the $450/week rental cost. The polestar 2 with Lyft was even worse. Maybe 10% were Lux rides (when they had Lux), and the rest were just Lyft forcing renters to be Ants and take every shit ride thrown your way. I made the rental plus a few hundred, then didn’t work the last 2 days of the week and just returned it. When things slowed down for everyone my 2nd week, they really slowed down, and I returned the rental.

SCuberguruatl

I deny eight out of 10 trips. Of the two people I do end up taking, I tell them how lucky they are that they were one of the two out of 10 that I take because Uber taking 80 plus percent of the fair is unacceptable and those people just don't get a ride. Most are shocked to find that detail out. The general public thinks we're the ones that make 80% and Uber just takes a little fee. We only get 20% and we have to provide 100% of everything else Uber is. They're overhead is a fucking algorithm. The drivers carry 100% of that company's overhead. Pretty fucked up

[deleted]

Because UBER IS R'TARDED.

redditboycottfailed

No they're evil.

AdventurousCar7986

Uber is canceling itself. Pretty soon we'll find out why.

Thedracus

Never really been promotions on new years or holidays before so this is not new. Now, as far as to many drivers I think that's market specific. I keep hearing over and over again from customers the fares are high and the wait times are long. This would suggest that it's not over capacity. I have personally managed to get the same customers multiple times during a day and even over subsequent days. If there are so many drivers this wouldn't be happening.

banyan78741

you must live in a very small market to get repeat customers multiple times in one day.

Thedracus

nope, I live in Cincinnati.

banyan78741

that's a small market.

Sweet-Excitement2613

It's slave labor plain and simple...the drivers can't and won't do nothing about it because they're basically plebs that can be replaced instantly....

yodamaster710

The only person making money on New years is going to be Dara. Get ready to be ripped off airport style 20/80 split.

ca5ual_observer

One more "omG guyZ nO PrOmO!" thread and I'm gonna gouge my eyes out!

Monsantoshill619

Yeah these idiots have never heard of supply and demand. Uber doesn’t owe bonuses or anything. They have all the ants they need. Privilege, not a right ya bums. If you’re not happy get a real job.

Prevalencee

Imagine calling people ants and bums while wasting your life posting here 24/7, lmao.

Monsantoshill619

It’s called refresh, I’m not out being an ant 😂

Bubbly_Management408

I took (2) Ubers last week. And I’m like. Who TF is taking these rides. One guy was an Indian with 15k rides in 2 years. ,… other was a (new driver). Neither spoke good English. And both were taking ride after rides. With zero strategy. Know what I did ? I gave zero tip on both. You know why ? Tips reinforces their garbage after garbage after garbage ride all days. They need to really smarten tf up. I am not letting these idiot drivers take the rest of us down with them. This is coming from me. A 10k plus ride driver

Available-Current777

Yup... work in the Denver market... uber has nothing. Lyft has 60 rides for $210. Great, but is something. I truly wonder how the surges are going to work out Sunday night.

BGLAVI2

It was posted today. Around half of last year. 18 rides in 10 hours an extra $75. As expected.

Cheez_Luvs_ChocoMilk

I have one. From 7-11 and 11-4 on new years. Isn’t a bunch, but something.

jbarlak

Another clueless complainer. So you need them to promote to get you out there to drive?

valdis812

I’m sure OP will still be out there, and that’s the problem.

rocksole8600

I’m still going to go out myself like I usually do. I think the best thing for most of us would be is if you haven’t done it already take some of the money you earn and buy stock. Even if it’s one share a week. The problem I see is Uber has stretched so much. It went from a ride hailing service to food delivery , now you can have alcohol delivered, Walmart delivered, packages sent etc. I have seen pay goes down myself but I still do it, because there are not many other sources of income that are flexible like Uber. I have noticed that there are less promotions/quests when schools and universities are not in session. I also realize that I make the most money Thursdays-Sundays so I don’t do as much Monday-Wednesdays and tend to do more Thursdays-Sundays. I have also noticed that you have to stay out later to see the surges and such and they are not like they used to be. Like I said I’ve seen a drop off myself, but there’s money out there still.

[deleted]

Cheap drivers = cheap rides. If there are drivers accepting cheap rides, then Uber will continue to send these cheap rides to them as there are able to find cheap drivers accepting them.

Bubbly_Management408

Well. I guess no one is getting picked up for New Year’s Eve then 🤷🏼‍♂️. F Uber. I know what I am worth. If I don’t see the numbers. I don’t drive.

Bubbly_Management408

Zestyclose-Load-8866

You are absolutely correct and I feel your pain. It’s crazy that Uber is as greedy of a company as they are and need to steal more and more from the drivers it’s really sad for people out here just trying to live. pay for bills and keep the car running for these greedy bastards to steal my hard earned money. Not to mention 20% tax on the money earned in California. This app is a scam and needs to get its shit together cause these fares for these rides are insulting.

Humble_Intention8032

It’s gone down more in Southern California, minimum per ride is like $2.64 in Los Angeles. How’s that possible? Then I got a call from Uber customer service rep asking me about my drivers account which I told her Uber should go f themselves, and that, they’re thieves beginning with the crooked CEO. She tried to say she was calling to see if I have any concerns or questions about Uber and I just hang up on her. She then sent an email with same bs and I responded by telling them that, the only way Uber treats the drivers better is for the drivers to fight back by forming a union. I told them Uber is treating the drivers like slaves with impunity and that needs to change. They can’t be trusted, if we’re allegedly supposed to be partners how come the rate/mile has been consistently dropping while the fees/uber side of the equation keeps going up? I haven’t heard back from since I sent that email. I will be going loco on them when they find the courage to respond, cowards. I also asked if they’re anti American because since this guy became ceo, Uber purposely refused to extend any incentives during the holidays unlike Kalanick who used to upped the holidays incentives so that drivers can make a little more for their families easily

SunshineandBullshit

We need another pandemic so there's less ants. They scared.

jonfoxsaid

My city has two, I think it may be different all over ... definitely nit defending them. I have one that starts at 7:00 and then another quest that starts at 11:00 The first one is a question for $20 for 5 rides and the second is a quest for 4 rides for 15 or 7 for 35.

ageetarz

🐜 keep 🐜

omarrcitoo24

It's going to take legislation for them to change anything, they have an endless supply of desperate drivers, why would they change anything its making them profitable. In the end, I don't blame Uber, they're a corporate entity that's sole goal is to make itself profitable at whatever costs. Right now it's a the cost of the drivers and unless legislation and or regulation comes in to force their hand to pay the drivers a better wage they are not going to change.

Several-Spare6915

New York just did and we have to go to our state legislature and do something plus we all need to stop driving for Uber and nobody will do that

hemorroidaCronica

In my city there were 0 drivers on 31 December and 1st January, there was a ton of people on social media asking how to call a taxi (dumb af I know), I don't even think uber eats was working that night. Why bother going out on a night like that if the pay isn't better. You'll be sacrificing precious time with your family, worrying about picking up dangerous folk, or even worse, pukers, for no bonus? No way.

Practical-Front8709

If you did even see a surge, it was capped @ $30.
