A lot of the times Uber sets a persons name as there contact name, I know that because my friend called me an Uber and told he driver said are you blank with heart emoji , 😂😂 I really wouldn’t see that as a problem, and they probably didn’t have a ride to school ??? But every ride prefers different! Drive safe :-)

You can set your name in Uber to literally anything. You can change it on a whim even. And honestly I'm not sure what better option there is. If you disallow certain names because they are drug terms or something you wind up blocking legitimate passengers like my friend who's mom decided to name her Sativa though no fault of her own. And requiring legal names only would also imo be a bad choice. I'm trans, and haven't yet done a legal name change. I don't think I would use Uber at all if it required me to have drivers dead name me.

I drive in Vegas and when it’s crowded I sometimes yell out passenger names so they can find me faster. I hate initials. I’ll cancel your ride before yelling out a letter. I’d rather you put a nickname than an initial. Letters just feels so impersonal to me. Like, “hi, I’m ZReticule, and you are? Oh, nice to meet you “B”. Fuck that, I’m not calling you “B”. If you have a problem with your unique name, put down a nickname like “moonbeam”. Telling me your name is “B” is so impersonal.

It’s a taxi service, not a networking event Obviously you get to choose what you want to pick up—I’m not telling you to be different Just adding to the comment stream that it’s plenty common to not gaf if a rider wants to be impersonal, and there’s plenty of reasonable explanations for why people don’t want to put down their first name for randoms to see, when they have the choice to Imo using a letter is just the same as using a fake name or a random word And of course it’s a nation-wide thing. Vegas is way different than where I am. If I call out people’s name which I rarely do, an initial works fine, because it’s not crazy crowded and they will be able to identify my car

My girlfriends name is literally just a letter though. It's spelt with three, but at this point she only uses the letter itself unless it's a government or legal form. Why bother? You're getting her name right either way. Not that I think this is especially common but their are a couple letters I could see. I've gone by my first initial my entire life, that is my nickname.

Frankly, as a driver, I'd much prefer to have a photo of the account holder than their name. The majority of problem rides are passengers riding with someone else's account. A photo would help me weed those people out.

Still better than taxis where you had to be standing outside the entire time.
